"I’m thinking of returning back home tomorrow." I blurted out over dinner and as expected, kenny wasn’t pleased. He was actually more confused and surprised.

"But... Trevor hasn’t been caught." He pointed out, fork hovering in the air. We were currently seated at his dining table, eating the meal he prepared. Of course he was an extremely great cook, as if he wasn’t already perfect enough.

"I know..." I began before dropping my cutleries to fully focus on him. I was briefly distracted by his handsomeness. His hair was briefly dipping into his eyes and he looked so hot and pretty at the same time without even having to try.

It was actually unfair to randomly look this good.

"But, it’s been three days, Kenny. And I think I should return back home at this point." I continued and kenny huffed, picking at his food.

"I don’t think that’s a good idea, Rory. Remember what the police said? They said you should refrain from returning home till after Trevor gets caught." He explained and I pursed my lips, eyes briefly resting on the glass of apple juice sitting beside my glass of water.

"I can’t keep staying here though. I need to return home. I have responsibilities, I have a job... I can’t just leave all of that just because of Trevor. Who knows, perhaps Trevor won’t disturb me any longer since now he knows he’s wanted by the police." I reasoned but Kenny didn’t seem to understand where I was coming from, and he still believed it was beyond dangerous for me to return back home.

I let out a long exhale and slump against the back rest of the seat, feeling speechless after the rational point he just tabled.

"But I can’t keep staying here while you feed me and all. I have my pride, you know?" I sighed out, staring down at my fingers.

"I appreciate all that you’ve done for me, I’m very grateful to you and I’m not sure I can’t be able to repay you for everything. But I need to return back home at one point. I can’t just put a stop to my life because of Trevor."

Kenny’s scent has soured at this point.

"You do have a point, I won’t lie. But I’m worried about you. I witnessed what he was capable of, remember? He’s a really unhinged alpha." Kenny pointed out and I knew he was right about this. Trevor was actually unhinged. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"I believe he has fled the country or something. Since he’s currently being wanted, I just believe he’s gonna stay away from me on moving forward." I reasoned and when I glanced back at Kenny, he looked deflated.

"You do know that I don’t mind any of this, right?" He gestured between us as he spoke. "I don’t consider you a burden or a pity case. I think you’re strong, to be exact. It’s not easy, being pregnant and still having the will to live despite all that had happened to you. You’re yet to still lose the light in your beautiful eyes despite all you’ve been through. I think that alone require so much strength, so I don’t consider you a burden at all." As each word left his mouth, I felt myself grow lighthearted as I listened to him.

"You’re a very great alpha, kenny. And I know that I don’t actually deserve you." I admitted after a bit and Kenny frowned again but I continued before he could speak.

"The thing is, I know you don’t mind taking care of me free of charge, even if I decide to live off you for years, and that’s because you have a heart of gold." I continued, eyes locked with his as I spoke.

"We’ll still be friends, we’ll still meet up frequently, stop appearing like I’m leaving the country." I attempted to tease him but he didn’t laugh, he only grew more worried.

"What if he attacks you when I’m not there to protect you?"

I felt my heart flutter this time, at the fact that he felt like it was now his job to protect me. No one has ever made it their priority to protect me before, not even Alex.

"He won’t, I’m sure of it. I’ll also be more careful. I’ll get a pepper spray and the likes." I reasoned with him, and then I added.

"We can’t gurantee that he’d get caught soon. What if that takes up to a year? Does that mean I’ll stay here with you till then?" I asked and he nodded without hesitating and I rolled my eyes while a small laugh bubbled past my mouth.

"I’ll be fine, Kenny. I promise."

When Kenny dropped me off, I wanted to ask him to wait outside because I was embarrassed about him coming into my studio apartment, but I reminded myself that he had been in it before.

"You’ll call me every night, and you’ll always look over your shoulders to ensure you’re not being followed. You’ll look into your apartment first before stepping in, and..." I cut him off with a small laugh and an eyeroll.

"We’ve been through this countless times, kenny. I’ll be fine, I promise." I tell him and he huffed, still appearing displeased.

I swallowed slowly as he stepped closer to me, and my breath caught in my throat when his finger tilted my chin upward just as his second hand brushed a strand of my hair out of my face, making a small shiver roll down my spine as I blinked while my cheeks grew warm.

My mouth suddenly felt dry and all that I was breathing in was his scent, flooding up my lungs and making my heart pound even faster. There was no use denying it, the air was beyond charged between us and it was pointless for me to keep lying to myself that I wasn’t attracted to him, when I knew that was the complete opposite.

He leaned down like he was about to kiss me and a shaky breath escaped my lungs just as he blinked once, and then he changed courses and gently brushed a kiss against my forehead.
