I gasped in shock as my hands flew up to clutch the necklace around my neck. Jason and Kenny wore matching expressions when I glanced at them. The man, Aaron, didn’t appear surprised as he continued.

"The spell around the necklace is a very strong one. It can save you from anything, that’s how powerful it is... it feels so strong, stronger than anything I’ve actually felt before. Even though I’ve been casting spells since I was a kid, I’ve never been able to cast a protective spell this powerful. Where did you get this necklace from, If you don’t mind me asking." He questioned while peering at me and I felt stunned for a moment. I flattered, my gaze panning to Lenny and Jason again before I glanced back at Aaron to shrug slowly.

"I- I don’t know." I responded, hands still around the necklace. Aaron blinked at me before rearing back in clear surprise.

"You don’t?"

I huffed as I nodded slowly. I got on my feet after that and began to pace around. I had been extremely conflicted on finding this necklace around my throat randomly, and I had even taken it off but something had urged me to put it back on. So this means if I had ignored the voice, I might have died in that accident along with my loved ones. That realization made me start to grow dizzy, prompting me to go take my seat back.

I faced aaron, feeling prepkecee and weirded out. "I don’t know where it came from, I just let it around my neck. Same way I met a knife in my pocket, and how I randomly have magic." I informed him and he requested to see said knife. I provided it for him and he examined it before handing it back to me and nodding.

"The knife contains strong magic as well. So far, what I can say is that the necklace was around you for a reason. Maybe one of the gods has decided to be with you on moving forward and she decided to give you the necklace so you’d always be safe, or it could be something else entirely... but I could feel love from it, platonic love." As he spoke, a frown appeared across my face. Half of what he was saying made no sense to me.

I reached for the necklace again just as Jason spoke.

"So... there’s no harm in him keeping the necklace on, right?" He asked and Aaron chuckled while shaking his head.

"Of course not, there isn’t. It’s a gift to him from what I can feel. He’s to keep it on him whenever he feels like he might be in danger and needs protection, or he can leave it all at all times, it’s his choice." Aston glanced at me at the last part of his sentence and I huffed out a breath while scrubbing my hand over my face.

This felt daunting in a scary way. Now it felt like I was being watched by someone and I didn’t like the feeling. But -Aaron had said it was a good thing in this situation so I didn’t want to make a big deal out of this. I fiddled with the necklace one last time before dropping my hand.

"So, is there more to this new magic that’s in me?" I asked and Aaron nodded. He requested for my hand again and after silence stretched out between us while he held my hand and closed his eyes, he broke it himself after dropping my hands and opening his eyes.

"There’s a lot more. It’s very broad inside of you, but it’s for you to slowly unravel. It’s something you’re to figure out yourself." He responded and I bit in my bottom lip while nodding. This was already giving me a headache and I wasn’t gonna be bothering myself about all of this for the time being at least. What’s even the point of having magic if I have to keep it away from everyone?

After that, there was a few more exchanges between Aaron and the guys. Jason even offered for him to stay and have a meal with us but he ended up declining the offer, saying he has somewhere important to be at. At the end of the day, he and Jason shook hands, promising to keep in touch this time. As we all began to see him out, he turned to Jason and spoke.

"When are you gonna return home and bring your lovers along with you?" He asked and Jason snorted just as he continued.

"You might not be aware, but the people in charge of your throne now are running your pack to the grounds. Everyone is evacuating it for their own good. You should come around sometimes, for the people who’re still loyal to you at least."

Jason was silent at that moment and on peering at him, I could see that he was in a lot of thoughts, but he ended up hugging Aaron and thanking him for that piece of information.

After Aaron left, Kenny broke the silence.

"You were really not aware?"

Jason shrugged before responding. "Of course I was. My butler keeps me updated."

A frown appeared across my face, one identical to Kenny’s.

"You aren’t gonna do anything about it?" Kenny continued and Jason huffed, lips in a thin line.

"No, I won’t be doing that. I’ve decided to leave everything about that life behind and fully focus on my family, which is you guys. I have no family back there." He responded and silence stretched out between us before I decided to speak.

"But what about the people loyal to you? You know, you can still be with us and also handle your pack at the same time." I added the last part but Jason only shook his head firmly.

"I just don’t have the zeal for that anymore. And at the end of the day, if I had really died, none of them would have mourned me. They might miss my ruling since I wasn’t a cruel ruler but that would be the end of it. They won’t feel my loss like you guys would have. Which is why I’ve decided to spend the rest of my life living for people that actually matter and not about business and politics and making more money and more connections... because at the end of the day, those things are meaningless. They don’t matter. The only thing that matters at the end of the day is family, which is you guys."

Jason was breathing a little hard by the time he was done and unable to stop myself, I tugged him into my arms, holding him tightly while his body shook against me.

"I still feel guilty about choosing myself in this situation, but at the end of the day, I feel like I have to be selfish in this situation." He mumbled against my shoulders and I sighed as I tightened my arms around him. After the hug got broke , Kenny cupped his face and kissed his jaw softly and my heart leaped happily at the sight.

"Maybe later, you can still... I don’t know, take off those undeserving rulers from your throne and hand it over to someone that actually deserves it. Hm? Of course, it doesn’t have to be at this very instant, but you can consider it later." Once Kenny was done speaking, I realized that his suggestion made a whole lot of sense. By the way Jason’s eyes brightened up, it was clear that he thought the idea was brilliant as well.

But before he could respond, the doorbell went off and we all stiffened because it was so unexpected. Since we were just standing a few feet away from the gate because we were yet to return back into the house after Aaron left, Kenny offered to go check who it was.

I asked Jason if he was fine and he offered me a smile before leaning down to kiss my nose.

"Of course I am."

Before I could say anything else, Kenny was returning and he had a flat expression on. My heart instantly began to pound away as I asked him what was wrong.

He rolled his eyes and let out a huff.

"It’s Raya."

As soon as he said those words, my eyes flew open and I almost staggered from shock. At once, Jason snarled, looking extremely furious.

"What’s she doing here??" He demanded and Kenny rolled his eyes again.

"She’s waiting, asking to see Rory." He explained and Jason’s hand settled over my shoulders as he spoke.

"Ask her to fucking leave."

"Believe me, I already tried, but she was practically pleading to see him," he explained.

I was still in shock and had barely been able to form any thought since her presence got announced.

I cleared my throat and wiggled from Jason’s hold.

"I’ll go see her." I announced.
