The doctor was rightfully shocked, and I was certain the explanation we gave her made no sense to her, considering the fact that she had run thorough tests on me before confirming that there was nothing else that could be done for me.

Right now, we had successfully wrapped things up with her and were already stepping out of the hospital when a guy suddenly sauntered towards us. My hackles instantly rose up, the enigma inside of me zeroing in on this dude and seeing that he was alpha, my enigma instantly wanted to make it submit and bring it to its knees. Since the presence of the enigma was made known to me, I had been feeling like a completely different person. I’ve even forgotten about how having an enigma inside of me felt like, so this feels a little foreign in a way, and right now. I was realizing that I’d have to train my enigma all over again and make it be able to once again control itself around regular alphas.

However, I didn’t realize that I was starting to glare, or that I was letting out pheromones that were making everyone around me feel the urge to submit, until Kenny nudged me gently and asked me what I was doing. When I realized what I was doing, I gawked from shock and took a step back as the pheromones I was letting out instantly came to a halt and disappeared into thin air. My chest was heaving when I glanced around, taking in the way people threw me weird, uneasy glances before hastily stepping away.

That made a weird feeling settle in my chest.

Kenny was heaving for breath a little when I glanced at him and I realized he had also been affected and I insanely felt sick. I glanced over at Rory and he didn’t look affected at all. Infact, he didn’t seem to realize what had happened. He corked his head sideways and was about to say something before a voice made him trail off.

"Are we leaving now, Rory?"

I instantly glanced up and my hackles rose again as soon as my eyes settled on that alpha I saw moments ago. I stepped forward, wanting to ask him what he wanted and who he was looking for. I was feeling extra possessive since I woke up. Almost losing one’s mate would do that to anyone.

However, Rory stepped forward and took the man’s hand to my surprise.

"Yes, we are. Are you okay though? You left for a while."

The man rolled his eyes and chuckled while his hand scratched behind his head. "Stop sounding like my mum, I was more than fine. But you guys took so long, I left to give you guys some privacy." The man explained and a frown settled across my face as I watched the excha. Before I could stop myself, I was reaching forward and tugging Rory towards me before standing before the man. I towered over him despite him being tall, but he was way lean compared to me. It pleased me immensely when his face instantly paled as he peered up at me before gulping, clearly frightened.

As he fucking should.

"Oh my god, Jason stop, that’s ace and he’s just a kid. Stop scaring him!" Rory argued after wiggling from my grip and stepping forward to stand between me and the dude.

"I’m not a kid." The man- kid whined, lips in a small pout and I forced myself to look without the glasses of possessiveness covering my eyes, and I saw that this man was indeed just a kid.

I felt embarrassed as I stepped backward, and I pursed my lips, refusing to apologize. A few people were starting to glance at us again and Kenny ushered us to get going.

"Is he coming with us?" I asked, referring to this Ace kid. Kenny shook his head just as Rory nodded. Kenny frowned at Rory. "He is?"

Rory nodded again. "Of course he is. He has nowhere else to go." He explained and I frowned, my gaze darting to the ace kid again.

"Why? Doesn’t he have a house?" I demanded and Rory gasped, shooting me a reprimanding look.

"Jason!"

"It’s the truth. He has worked for Alex before so I don’t trust him. For all we know, he’s gonna end up betraying us at the end of the day." I added as I folded my arms and Rory appeared very appalled as he stood beside Ace and began to defend him.

"He’s not like that, I promise. He didn’t willingly work for Alex, it’s the truth. And he helped me escape, remember?"

I rolled my eyes, still not feeling moved.

"So? Why should you have to help him? Because he helped you to escape? That’s something a decent wolf should do, you shouldn’t have to pay him back because of that, and he’s technically a stranger and we should definitely not take him into our home." I explained and at the nod Kenny gave, I was pleased that he was on my side in this situation.

"You guys!" Rory cried out and I shook my head firmly.

"We have to be rational, baby." I spoke quietly this time. Rory didn’t look happy as he glanced up at this Ace who had a blank expression on. Rory took his hand and he didn’t fight it like he’d clearly normally do.

"It’s fine. Your mate is right. You shouldn’t have to help me because I did what a decent person should’ve done. I was just desperate, that’s all. But I’ll be fine, I promise." He spoke softly but even as Rory shook his head and attempted to speak, the kid continued.

"I’ll really be fine, I promise." He added.

The more I stared at him, I began to feel a little guilty, like I had judged him too harshly. He sounded genuine right now, and earnest.

I scrubbed my hand over my face and I walked outside the hospital to the car my butler had brought over here, which he’d be using uh driving us home. I instantly instructed my butler to put someone on the phone and in a few minutes, the call was being answered.

"Malik, you there?"

"Yup, bro. What’s up? Need anything? Wanna hang?"

"I actually need a little favor..."

"That’s fine with you, yes?" I asked, peering down at Rory who was chewing on his bottom lip. He pursed his lips and nodded.

"If Malik doesn’t treat him well, I’ll kill him!" He muttered, sounding very serious.

"Malik is a cool guy, I’m sure your friend would be fine. Besides, why do you care about him so much?" I asked and Rory shrugged.

"I- I don’t know. I just do."

"He’ll get a phone today and call you like you told him to. It’s all gonna be alright." I reminded him and he nodded before exhaling and leaning into my side to snuggle into my side. My chest squeezed tight as I wrapped my arm around him and tugged him closer. We were currently being driven home, and I couldn’t wait to get home and meet the kids, then we can all be a happy family once again.

Kenny was already asleep, and my second arm was around him while he snoozed against my chest. Tired lines were in his face, and I knew he must have remained by my side throughout the time I was unconscious, which meant he barely got any sleep.

Poor Kenny.

I massaged his side and enjoyed the sigh he let out before snuggling closer to me. I was the happiest person alive right now, and this is something that I’ll undoubtedly appreciate even more now that I almost lost it all.

I had already arranged with my butler to set things in line and make Alex’s hideout to get stormed in by the cops, and all his men would be captured and dealt with. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

I was glad that this was the end of it. Alex managed to do way more damage to my mates and I than I could have guessed, but at the end of the day, I was glad my two mates came out unscathed. Rory definitely returned with unexplainable powers, but he didn’t have a single scratch on his body, so it’s all good. Aside from the emotional pain Kenny went through, he’s alright as well. And the kids were fine too. So what else could I ask for?

"When we get home, I’m gonna you and Kenny for hours, because I really thought I’d never get to do that again. And kiss. We’re gonna kiss for hours." Rory mumbled and I hummed, my chest fluttering as I peered down at him. He glanced up at that moment and reached up to drag his palm against my light beard since I hadn’t shaved in a while.

"You guys are my home and I’m so glad that... that we’re all together again."
