It felt like my head was being split open with an axe when I blinked my eyes open and I let out a loud groan, eyes falling shut again as a wave of pain pulsed in the middle of my chest, shooting straight to the middle of my head.

"Careful." A voice said beside me and I flinched, unable to recognize it. A moment later, two hands settled on my shoulder, maneuvering me into a sitting position right before a familiar scent hit me square in the face.

Kenny.

"You okay?" His voice was soft and filled with concern as he turned me sideways till my back got pressed into a wall. I swallowed the hard lump in my throat and forced my eyes open this time. My gaze landed on Kenny almost immediately, taking in the frown across his face as he stared at me intently.

I opened my mouth to speak but a pained sound escaped my lips, right before my eyes fell close again because the sunlight pouring into this room from the top windows felt like it was about to blind me.

"Jason! Speak to me. Are you okay?" Kenny’s voice was sharp but filled with worry in the next moment and I had to force myself to blink my eyes open, groaning weakly instantly. I nodded my head and pain shot through my head at once, and my eyes almost fell close but I forced it to remain open.

"Yeah, I am." I gruffee out and Kenny stared at my face some more before letting out a relieved sigh, and then he was engulfing me into a hug. His scent engulfed me and at once, my nose found his throat and I inhaled deeply, feeling the scent flow tight into the middle of my chest at once.

Fuck.

I miss this so much. I miss him so much.

My hands moved up and wrapped around his waist, feeling my chest tighten with some emotions in the next moment.

How long have I been out?

"What happened?" I managed to croak out after Kenny pulled out of the hug and Kenny pushed my hair out of my face before cupping my cheeks in his hands.

"You were out for about ten hours. I was starting to get really really worried." He revealed and I felt my eyes widen even more as I tried to remember why I passed out and how it happened.

"How did it happen? What happened?" I asked, my chest starting to hurt again.

"Alex shot you with something that knocked you out, then we have been locked up here since then." He explained and I felt my heart drop onto my stomach at his explanation.

"What did he shoot me with?" I asked and this time, I watched as Kenny suddenly grew uncomfortable. He averted his gaze for a few moments and when he focused on me again, his eyes ragged over my face and body just as he spoke.

"So how do you feel? Do you feel weird? Dizzy?" He asked and I let out a groan, hand dropping from his middle to Drey it over my face.

"I feel like shit, my entire body hurts, so fucking much. What the hell did that bastard shoot me with?" I bit out and once again, Kenny looked away and coughed. I wanted to ask if he was hiding something but something materialized within my mind in the next moment.

"So, we still didn’t get to find Rory." I spat out bitterly and a pained expression crossed Kenny’s face before he pulled away and sat on his heels before me.

"It happened so fast. After you passed out, we were locked up and that was it." He explained and my eyes dragged over his body: trying to see if he was hurt anywhere.

"You aren’t hurt, are you? He didn’t touch you like he said he will, did he?" I asked and Kenny shook his head almost immediately.

"I’m doing fine. He didn’t touch me. He didn’t want me like I figured out. Right now, the only person I’m really worried about is Rory... and you." He spoke quietly and I dragged a palm over my face again.

"Just Rory. I hope he’s still unhurt." I spoke quietly, feeling immensely disappointment at myself. After everything, I’ve still been unable to save Rory. What kind of alpha does that make me? A really useless one.

"This is why I didn’t want you to come here with me. Now I’m trapped here and you are as well. I don’t know exactly where we are or if we’d be able to break out. What if..." I was still speaking when Kenny shook his head firmly.

"No, stop. Jason. I’m here willing, okay? Stop feeling guilty. Instead, we should find a way to leave here. I didn’t do any of that because I had to make sure you were alright and awake first, since even if I do find a way to get out of here, I can’t be able to take you along if you’re passed out, and I can’t ever abandon you." He explained and as I stated at his face right now, I felt my heart clench together as a rush of emotion shrugged through it.

I tried getting to my feet in the next moment and I ended up staggering, making me yelp a little as I steadied myself by the wall before Kenny could get to me.

"I’m fine." I said before Kenny could touch me and he bit his lip, a pained expression across his face as he nodded before turning away to the locked entrance of this room which we’re currently in.

There was something off about him. I couldn’t put my hand on it but it was right there, hanging around him like a cloud. If we weren’t being pressed with urgency right now, I’d have tried getting him to tell me what was wrong. But then we were both hoping to find Rory and that could also be why this cloud is hanging over his head.

I gripped the bars of the entrance of the room we were currently locked up in. The room was very high, and it had windows, surprisingly, because I thought this was gonna be a dark place, like somewhere underground.

I shook it a couple of times, ignoring the wave of pain that kept shooting through my head with each push. Kenny was beside me in an instant and he shook his head, a dejected expression across his face.

"It’s useless, I’ve tried that." He admitted quietly and I let go of the bars and sighed as I turned towards him.

"So, what else have you tried?" I asked and he shrugged weakly as he responded.

"It doesn’t seem like anyone’s here. We were locked up and abandoned. This is supposed to be a place where sunlight won’t be able to reach. That had been Alex’s exact words when he ordered for us to be locked up, so it still shocked me that we were locked in a room so bright." Kenny explained and I hummed a little, trying to dwell on that piece of information to check if i’d be able to piece anything impotent from what he had just revealed, but I ended up with nothing.

"The sun is starting to go down. At this rate, I don’t think we’ll be able to leave here." Kenny spoke quietly and I glanced over at him. The expression on his face was very troubled as he continued.

"I’ve been trying not to panic or break down throughout the time you were out because it was gonna be pointless. But now that you’ve awakened, I can feel myself panic even more. Alex ordered his men to lock us up in where we’d rot away. What if we never get to escape this cell? What would become of the story?" His voice got choked up at the end of his sentence and I felt sick to my stomach but I still closed the rest of the gap between us to take him into a hug. I inhaled his scent greedily, my chest suddenly feeling empty. I didn’t focus on that right now, choosing to fully focus on comforting Kenny.

"I’m so sorry. I should be here to assure you that we’d be alright instead of being passed out for hours." I spoke quietly and Kenny pulled him tighter against his body, shaking his head and speaking without pulling back.

"That wasn’t what I meant. You aren’t meant to always be strong. I’m just scared and worried about Rory, that’s all."

My hold tightened around him before the hug broke and we separated. I kissed his forehead and pushed his hair out of his face. I was sad that he was trapped in here with me because I was worried about him and didn’t want him to get hurt. But now I was glad that he was here with me, in a selfish way. Seeing his face alone will definitely keep strengthening me.

"We’ll get out of here no matter what. I promise."
