"I’m sorry, it was because of traffic." I offered and I nodded before speaking.

"Niko hates tardiness. You have to give him a reasonable excuse and remember that he’s very smart so it must be believable." I continued. Normally I wouldn’t have bothered, but Niko actually liked Jason, and Jason was actually putting in efforts. Jason nodded before gesturing to a bag I didn’t notice he was holding since.

"I have the perfect excuse to use. I bought him a gift as well, I hope that’s okay?" He asked and I narrowed my eyes. We never spoke about gifts.

"Before you ask: yes, I didn’t get him a dumb, cheesy gift. It’s something he’d definitely love. Trust me." He continued and against my own will, I got the urge to smile.

"Did you also get Anna a gift? Remember they’re siblings at this point. She has to like and accept you as well." I continued and he nodded.

"The last time we spoke, he talked about Anna enough for me to understand that he cared about her a lot, so I got her a gift as well." He revealed ruefully. I had to admit to myself that he was clearly intentional about this, which pleased me immensely.

"You can go ahead then. Have fun. After you guys finish with them, you and Kenny and I need to have a talk. An important one." I began and a grim expression appeared on Jason’s face.

"It’s about what happened back in my apartment, right?" He asked and I bit on my lips as I slowly nodded. His expression fell almost immediately and I realized he thought we wanted to talk about how we never wanted that incident to repeat itself, not knowing it was the complete opposite.
