"What the fuck?!" I bellowed, staring at my mother while being unable to believe my ears right now.

What the effing fuck?

"You mean he was here? Why did you let him in?" I demanded, pushing off the couch and starting to pace around the sitting room. My mother’s lips were in a thin line as she stared down at the knitting machine over her laps. Her blonde hair fell over her forehead in a cute bang, she was the one I looked like between herself and my father.

"Kenny, you know I couldn’t..." she began but I shook my head as I dragged my hand over my face.

"But you could, mum. You were never supposed to entertain that asshole much less let him in here. How dare he show up after almost ten years?! Who the heck does that?" I continued. I was feeling extremely angry right now, and despite how much I tried calling myself down because I hated angry emotions the most, it didn’t seem to be working in any way.

I got here about an hour ago because my mother kept nagging me to come by, saying she missed me so much and don’t get to see me that much again. After I arrived, we lazed around talking and talking. I even prepared a light meal in her kitchen for the two of us, and also promised to bring the kids over to her this weekend. My mother didn’t have much friends, and since I was her only living child, she didn’t have a lot of people to fuss over. Which is the exact reason why she always loved it whenever the kids spent time with her.

It had been a complete shock to me when she revealed to me that Anna’s father had reached out to her two days ago, asking for an opportunity to meet with Anna.

After my elder sister died, her husband abandoned their little kid. I was literally still a college student when I began to raise Anna myself. My mother could have happily done that but back then she was still working about five jobs at a time. And throughout that period, Anna’s father never reached out. He never called to ask how she’s fairing or how I was coping with his child. So why the hell was he reaching out now?

"He’s not meeting Anna. Never. I won’t allow it." I breathed out after a few minutes and my mother sighed. I went back to sit beside her as I continued.

"You didn’t tell him that he could meet her. Did you?" I asked and she shook her head.

"Honestly? After he apologized so much was when I felt a little pity for him. He acknowledged his wrongs and informed me that he was ready to start doing right at this point." She explained and I let out a scoff filled with disbelief.

"This is so funny, mum. Just because he apologized and is now ready to do right doesn’t mean a thing. What if there was no one to take in Anna and bring her up, he meant he’d fully abandon her?? He’s her father and he never reached out this whole time, he never called her on her birthdays at least. He’s an asshole, a selfish asshole and I won’t ever let him meet with Anna." I spoke vehemently and my mother took my hand in hers, massaging my fingers. I breathed out sharply from my nose while trying to calm my pounding heart.

"I told him I’d reach out to you about this because as her guardian, you have the final decision in this whole situation." My mother admitted and I nodded almost immediately.

"That’s good, mum. You did well. Now, if he dares reach out to me, I’m going to beat him up and break his bones." I grounded out and my mother only massaged my fingers some more.

"Are you aware that Anna felt unloved and unwanted at one point in her life because her father never reached out to her or anything even though he wasn’t dead? I had to help her overcome that stage, and mum, it was very hard. Which is why that bastard isn’t welcomed into Anna’s life. He can go fuck himself."

After that, we didn’t talk much for a while. The soidnce between us was comfortable and I loved it, it helped me lose myself to my thoughts smoothly and after about thirty minutes, my mother broke the silence.

"Kenny, I’ve been meaning to ask..." she began and I tilted my head, waiting for her to continue.

"Are you aware that there’s another scent clinging to you, aside from your boyfriend’s own? Hm?" She asked and I stiffened almost immediately.

It was Jason’s scent.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

"Um..." I began, clearing my throat and unsure of how to actually explain the situation to her.

"Are you cheating on your boyfriend?" She demanded without beating around the bush and my eyes widened in horror before I vehemently shook my head.

"What?! No mum! Why would I do that?" I cried out but she only shrugged before leaning closer to sniff me again.

"I just... that’s the only thing that can explain why you have another alpha’s scent on you, and it’s not just a mild scent, it’s one that has seeped into your pores and has blended with yours at this point." She explained and I bit at the inside of my cheek, staring down at my fingers.

"It’s a little complicated, mom." I began and she narrowed her eyes at me. Even if I was her son, she still wouldn’t tolerate me cheating... as she actually shouldn’t.

"Rory is aware of this thing, mum, and he’s also involved. So, no one’s cheating on the other. I promise." I finally responded but it didn’t look like she believed me, making me let out a huff.

"I’m serious, mum! I don’t want to explain much to you till things get an actual label, so just trust me, okay? You know I’m not the one to cheat, especially on someone I love, so that’s out of the question." I continued and my mother pursed her lips for about a minute before she finally nodded.

"Fine."

I flashed her a smile and nodded as well. "Good." 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

After leaving my mother’s house, on the way home, I decided to stop by a mall to pick up a few things. A cute looking woman smiled at me and offered to point me in the direction of whatever I might be looking for.

"I’m searching for something like accessories." I blurted out and she directed me to the exact corner accessories are located at. As I walked past shelves and shelves of earrings and necklaces, one particular design of necklace caught my attention. The pendant of the necklace was shaped like a moon, and it was silver in color. After staring at it for a bit longer, I decided to pick out three matching ones for myself, Rory and Jason.

After that, I picked out a few diamond earrings before heading back. On getting to the cashier’s desk, I was patiently waiting for my card to be debited when a scent made me stiff, right before my name got called.

I slowly turned around and a few feet away stood my last ex, Mark.

I stared at him in shock, he was the last person I’d ever think I might run into. Mark was the last alpha I was with, the one that made me promise myself to fully stay away from Alphas.

He closed the distance between us and tugged me into a hug before I could get a word out and I remained frozen in the spot while memories from the past flooded my mind in that moment, memories of him making me feel less and less of myself, of him starting to control me because I submitted to him, and so on.

On getting myself back, I shoved him away and punched him in the cheek. His eyes widened and he touched his swollen cheek.

"What the fuck? Since when did you get this feisty? And I only wanted to say hi because it has been so long." He huffed out but I scowled at him hard.

"Get lost, mark." I gritted out before turning back around to accept my card and purchases from the cashier. As I walked towards my car, my heart was racing and I felt nauseous, because I could mark walking behind me, and I was trying not to act bothered but his presence was making my skin crawl.

"Wait, Ken. I only want to speak to you for a moment." He called out and tried grabbing my hand but I whirled around and shoved his chest hard, watching him stumble for a bit. I slid into my car before he righted himself and sauntered over to stand by my window.

"Have coffee with me soon? I only want to talk, I promise." He continued but I only scoffed as I started up my car.

"Go fuck yourself, Mark." I spat at him as I drove off.
