My heart instantly flew into my throat and I was so caught off guard that I stumbled and squealed, which madeq a lot more noise than I’d have liked. The guard’s eyes narrowed at me as he solely stepped closer to me and I swallowed emptily, already knowing that I was doomed at this point. This was exactly what I’ve been trying to avoid, what I’ve been constantly praying against, and that same thing was right in front of me right now and I was too frozen in fear and shock to say a thing as the guard stopped beside me.

His head was cocked sideways as he regarded me, his gun still pointed at me. I remained in the same spot, unable to breathe because of how nervous I felt right now. It felt like one wrong move or word would result in my head instantly getting blown off by this large looking gun.

"Please." I finally croaked out, my throat feeling too tight and scratchy. The guard remained silent, and he slowly crouched beside me, pressing the gun against my throat and my heart instantly accelerated even more.

"Why are you out here? I’m very certain the boss wouldn’t have freed you himself." He added quietly and I gulped, knowing the fear in my eyes right now was extremely obvious to him. That seemed to have conveyed my answer to him because he threw his head back and laughed slowly and then he shook his head.

"Oh wow. You really killed the boss? How did you do it?" He questioned next and a feeling of uneasiness engulfed me. I gulped again, eyes locked with us as I secretly tried to whip out my knife from my pocket. He easily noticed that and rolled his eyes before knocking my hand off and laughing.

"Oh, that’s how you did it? I can’t lie, I’m impressed." He paused and leaned closer and I completely stopped breathing. "I’m also disappointed, because I wished I could have watched."

My mouth fell open as I gawked at him in utter confusion.

Before I could get a word out in the next moment, footsteps of approaching guards began to echo closer and I gasped in fear at once, my eyes instantly darting towards this man who instantly rose to his full height and stepped forward to the first turn, automatically blocking the guards.

I was quick to drag myself off the ground and drag myself to press my back against the wall, heart pounding away while I kept hoping that the guard wouldn’t give me up. He was yet to shoot me, that had to mean something, right? And he also said he had been there to watch Alex get killed. What the hell does that mean?

I listened in on the conversation he was currently having with the guards who were about to come in this direction. They told him they were doing the usual patrol around every corner of this compound and the guard who had caught me, assured them he was just coming from the place they wanted to go check over so it wouldn’t be necessary and would only be a waste of time.

I remained in the same spot, heart racing fast and all my nerves at alert till the sounds of those guards retreading finally echoed around me. I was finally able to exhale and I slowly slid down against the wall as the guard who had caught me when I had been about to fully escape walked back to me and motioned for me to get up.

I let out a sigh, all my stomach in nervous knots. As I peered into his face, which looked really young, like he just crossed twenty years. He had soft eyes and pouty lips. He was tall and lean, and his hair was wavy and framing his face.

I cleared my throat and averted my gaze for a moment as I spoke.

"So, what now? You gonna chose to capture me for yourself now or what?" I asked, watching as this guard reared back.

"What? No. Of course not, I’m not that heartless!"

I scoffed and rolled my eyes because that was clearly a load of bullshit.

"You work for Alex, I think that’s quite heartless."

He pursed his pouty lips and resembled a duck. Dare I say he looked adorable right now.

"It wasn’t like I wanted to! My mother owed the royal family a favor and since she was unable to keep to her word, I ended up having to work for King Alex in order to pay off the debt. Technically all I do is patrol around so how the hell is that heartless?"

He demanded and I peered at him wearily this time, trying to see if he was telling the truth right now or not. His eyes genuinely looked innocent enough and he really didn’t look like someone who can hurt anyone now that I was thinking about it.

"How old are you?" I asked and he beamed. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"I’m almost twenty."

I wrinkled my nose at him, shaking my head belatedly.

"You’re still a little baby and have no business being here." I pointed out and he frowned at me, face scrunched up.

"Well, I’m pretty grown up. I look grown compared to you." He muttered and I rolled my eyes.

"I’m definitely older. It’s never by height. You’re an alpha so this is normal." I bit out as he peered down at me.

"I’m guessing you want me to let you go and not alert the others like I’m supposed to." He continued and my breath hitched at once as I nodded once. He pursed his lips before sighing.

"I might probably end up regretting this." He muttered before turning and motioning for me to come with him. My heart instantly leaped for joy as I hurriedly fell into steps behind him, following him as he took a left turn till we got to the end of the fence.

He glanced back at me grimaced again before bending a knee and motioning for me to climb up, and my heart raced as I instantly did that before he changed his mind. My heart pounded hard in my chest till I successfully jumped over the fence, and then I stared at him from above the fence. His innocent eyes had a bit of worry in it.

"You sure you’ll be fine? The guys might figure out something is wrong soon then they’d catch up with you in no time. So, I guess... good luck."

I exhaled and nodded, willing my hands to stop trembling.

"Yes, I’m aware. I won’t let myself get caught especially now that I’m finally on the other side of that fence. Thank you so much..." I trailed off, eyes still trained on him.

"Ace." He muttered and I nodded.

"Thank you, Ace. You’re a lifesaver and I won’t ever forget you. I promise." I meant every word I had just said.

Ace nodded once.

"Just, if you can send help for me, please do, okay! Or if your mates chose to storm here, please tell them I helped you so they won’t gun me down. You owe me one, remember." He muttered and my brows furrowed In realization that he knew who they were.

I peered at him once again before saying the next thing that appeared in my mind.

"Why don’t you come with me, Ace?"

"Oh my god, I’m so fucked!" Ace had said those same words for the hundredth time.

"At this point, they must have discovered that Alex is dead and that you and I are gone, then they’d believed I helped kill Alex and free you right after. Oh, I’m utterly fucked." He cried out, cupping his head in his hands as he kept walking before me, clearing out the paths in this thick forest.

So far, it’s been hours and we’ve still been walking. It’s safe to say that we’re now lost. Apparently even Ace didn’t know where we were because they were all blindfolded when being transported here. That bastard, Alex.

"Relax, nothings gonna happen. As soon as we get to town, we’ll be safe." I assured him but he was still worried.

"But we’ve been stuck here for hours, how the hell would we find our way in this thick forest?" He asked and I felt bad at once for asking him to come with me. I genuinely did that because I wanted to help him and protect him, and not to create more problems for him. But sadly now was too late for him to turn back.

We were still walking, a small silence beginning to stretch out between us. Out of nowhere, a stabbing pain wrenched right out from my chest and a scream tore out my throat as I instantly fell to my knees while clutching my chest. Ace was instantly beside me, clearly worried while asking me what was wrong. I clutched my chest tighter, my mouth hanging open and my eyes widening in shock and utter disbelief at the thing I was feeling right as the pain ebb away.
