I was starting to lose hope in the exact promise I made to Kenny about two hours ago. I assured him that we’d get out of here no matter what, but as the minutes bleed into hours and it doesn’t seem like we were making any kind of progress, I was starting to lose hope. I wasn’t letting it show through because that would make Kenny panic and it was something I was currently avoiding.

So far, we’ve made zero progress. I had tried breaking the bars with my hands, Kenny had even assisted, but it was pointless. The bars were too strong to give out a little. After that, I tried punching the walls to see if I could break through it, but I only managed to break my knuckles and that waa it. With my second hand, and Kenny’s two hands, we tried digging through the ground for any kind of means in order to escape, but it was pointless again.

I was currently taking in deep breaths and trying to think but it didn’t seem like that was helping out in any way. My mind rolled over to Rory and I wondered what was currently going on with him, I could feel my mouth fill up with bile at the thought of Alex getting his hands on him. Whenever I get the chance to get a hold of Alex, I won’t even care of what is gonna happen, I was going to kill the bastard without any sort of hesitation.

My mind briefly got clouded with bitterness and I got the pressing urge to lean against the nearest wall. With my back against the wall, I slowly realized that I couldn’t feel my wolf. That made me become alert and I felt through my chest, through all the corners in there to see if I’d be able to feel its presence there but it was still completely empty in there. I let out a grunt but when Kenny turned towards me, I forced a smile on.

Now wasn’t the time to be thinking about my stupid wolf. I wasn’t sure of why I couldn’t feel it within me but it had to be either because he couldn’t feel Rory since the moment he got kidnapped, or because it was unhappy that we were still stuck in this cell. But even when my wolf went full dormant oh me, I was still able to feel his presence... unlike right now.

I pushed off the wall and made my way to Kenny where I sank down beside him, pushing thoughts of my wolf backwards. I could still feel pain in my chest and my head but I was glad that at least now it felt like I was used to it, and not like it was something threatening to strike me down.

"What if we really rot and die in here?" Kenny asked quietly, his eyes darting around as he spoke and I hated that i didn’t have a response. I hated it so much because I was used to coming up with solutions to every situation. This is the first time I’ve been unable to do that and it was still making me feel extremely useless. I let out a long sigh, wishing I could promise him that we’d get out of here no matter what, but I didn’t do that because even I wasn’t sure I believed that at this point.

Kenny’s stomach grumbled in the next moment, a clear sign of hunger. Before I could even attempt to say anything in response, my stomach was rumbling loudly as well and I pressed my palm over it for a moment before letting out a low sigh.

"I just wish.... I just wish things weren’t like this, I wish it turned out differently. Maybe if... If I had been more level headed, things might have turned out differently." I admitted quietly, eyes on my hands as I spoke. Kenny placed a hand over mine and offered a comforting squeeze.

"We can’t be certain of that, and you tried your best, we both did." He spoke quietly and I sighed again, feeling extremely frustrated at this entire situation.

"Did you know that I put a recording device in my pocket while coming here?" Kenny suddenly spoke and my eyes instantly widened as I turned to face him, ignoring the sharp wave of pain that shrugged through my head the next moment.

"Really?"

He nodded slowly, a grim expression across his face.

"Yeah. I had it linked with a laptop back at home. The laptop was supposed to alert the police when I click on a button on the device, and then they were supposed to end up raiding here before the end of the day. But then after you got shot With a shipper, before we got locked up, our pockets got emptied and everything got taken, our phones, and everything else, including that device." As he spoke, I realized that at the end of the day, he was also two steps ahead. It was just that little slip on my path that made everything fall to our feet, which ender with us being locked Io here.

It was at the tip of my tongue to apologize to him but at the end of the day, I ended up doing nothing because he was only gonna insist it wasn’t my fault, even though it was.

I wrapped an arm around him and tugged him into my side. He instantly melted against me and I took in a deep whiff of his scent, and almost immediately, I was reminded of my lack of wolf which I couldn’t feel but I still didn’t bring it up because this was like the worst timing ever.

I massaged his shoulders and combed my fingers through his hair, and that was how we fell asleep, with his head against my chest and his arms around my waist. I remained awake long after he fell asleep, thinking of the fact that like Kenny had feared, we might really end up rotting away in here.

It was from deep in my sleep that I began to hear it.

The sounds of sharp hits, sounding like it was coming from deep within my head. It was causing the pain in my head to increase and I tried to stop it, I tried to ignore it but the sounds kept increasing till I forced my eyes open. And that was when I heard it.

The sounds of the wall being broken down. I stiffened and gently shook Kenny awake, and as he tried to gather his wits together, the sounds of the left side of the cell falling made the two of us let out startled sounds as he hurriedly rose to our feet.

Someone had just broken the left side of our cell from the outside!!!

It was still pitch black outside and as the dust of the wall coming down cleared up, the lights of a car almost blinded us because we were still trying to see who was responsible for this. That was when a figure began to walk forward. I tried to make out a face but it was hard because of the sharp light. Kenny inched closer to me and I took his hand in mine just as the figure fully stepped out of the light and the person’s face finally showed clearly.

"Anna?!" Kenny and I echoed out in shock and in the next moment, we were both exchanging a shocked and surprised look.

She clapped her hands together while pointing at the open space in the wall. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"Guys, we don’t have much time. Let’s get out of here right now before someone comes to check." She said in the next moment and again, I exchanged a look with Kenny.

"Why are you here?" I asked instead of starting to move like she had asked. This right here made no sense. Last I remembered, after capturing and questioning her till she spilled all that we needed to know, we turned her to the police. She ended up getting freed because she was yet to commit any actual crime. And now she was here right now, seemingly helping us out. That made no sense to me because someone like that wasn’t ever gonna help us if they could.

She rolled her eyes and folded her arms. "Isn’t it obvious enough? I’m breaking you two out, duh." She explained but I was still hella confused. This just looked like another trap and now I was more skeptical than I’d usually be.

"That bastard Alex sent you, didn’t he? Well, go back to him and tell him to fuck himself." I bit out as I walked past her, tugging Kenny along with me till we stepped through the hole and got to the other side of the wall. A relieved sigh escaped my lungs but I instantly grew alert on noticing a few of Alex’s guards.

"No need for any worry, these guys are on my side." Anna said as if reading our minds, and after she handed something to their leader, they bowed at her and left with large tools and I realized they were the ones who broke down the wall.

"Wait, you’re betraying Alex?" Kenny asked in astonishment and I realized after a moment that he was right.

"Yes, that’s exactly what’s happening... because he dared betray me first. Now you two are gonna help me get back at him and ruin his life in exchange for breaking you out. Deal or no deal?"
