Adrian sat on the bench with a heavy sigh, burying his face in his hands. Just earlier, he had arrived looking put together, maybe even happy. Now, he looked utterly broken. His curly hair was a mess, his clothes slightly wrinkled, and his eyes were swollen and red, like he had been crying non-stop since the moment he saw his father’s body.

Adeline reached out, her hand resting gently on his shoulder blade. "I’m really sorry."

"Just when I finally decided to come and talk to my father... this had to happen." His voice was hoarse and tired. "I wasted so much time avoiding him... And now, I’ll never get another chance."

There was nothing Adeline or Enzo could say to fix that. Some losses just couldn’t be softened with words.

After a long pause, Adrian finally lifted his head and turned towards them, his tired gaze meeting theirs. "Did you two know my father?"

Adeline and Enzo shook their heads at the same time.

"No, we just came to get some important receipts from him," she answered.

Adrian’s gaze drifted toward the shop. The crime scene was slowly clearing up, and the police were beginning to leave, with only a few officers staying behind to continue the investigation. One of them caught Adrian’s attention, motioning for him to come over.

He got to his feet, but before leaving, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small business card. He handed it to Adeline, pointing to a section on it. "This is my number. The cops won’t let me touch anything in the shop right now, but once everything is settled, I’ll look for whatever receipts you were here for, and when I find them, I’ll let you know."

Adeline blinked, taken aback by the gesture. Before she could thank him, Adrian gave them a quick nod and hurried off toward the officer.

She glanced down at the card in her hands before passing it to Enzo, who pocketed it in his suit jacket.

Taking a deep breath, Adeline stood up, and Enzo followed suit. They turned in the opposite direction of the crime scene and started heading back to where they had parked their car.

As they walked, Adeline leaned into Enzo’s side, resting her head lightly against his arm. He glanced down at her and reached over, wrapping his arm around hers and pulling her closer.

"Are you okay, Cupcake?"

She nodded. "I guess we’ll be going back home now."

Enzo shrugged. "That’s right. We’re basically done with what we came to Vegas for."

Evans sat comfortably in his room, his legs crossed as he relaxed on the sofa, a book in one hand and a steaming cup of tea resting on the table in front of him. The soft melody of classical music played in the background, his head bobbing ever so slightly to the rhythm. This was his ideal evening—reading, tea, and music, three of his favorite things. Nothing could possibly disturb such a perfect moment.

A knock at the door shattered the peace, and his serene expression twisted into a frown. His head snapped toward the door, irritation flickering in his eyes. "Can’t a man have some time to himself without being disturbed?"

The door creaked open, and when he saw Richard step inside, he sighed. Tossing his book aside, he picked up his teacup and took a slow sip, hoping his brother would at least have something worthwhile to say.

Evans’ grip on the teacup tightened. His eyes widened, and a barely noticeable, involuntary twitch flickered at one side of his face. He swallowed hard, but the liquid went down the wrong way, making him choke. He set the cup down hastily, covering his mouth with the back of his hand, coughing.

He reached for a napkin, wiping his lips with it. "When did she get back?"

"Just now," Richard replied. "I was on the balcony when I saw her fiancé’s car pull up to the gate. She was inside."

Before Evans could ask anything further, Richard turned away, waving a dismissive hand, uninterested in whatever his brother had to say next. He strolled off, leaving Evans sitting there with a deep scowl on his face.

The car rolled into the estate’s garage and came to a stop. Andrei stepped out first, walking around to the backseat. He opened the door, revealing Enzo inside, who was cradling Adeline in his arms. She had fallen asleep during the long drive, her soft breaths barely noticeable as she curled into him.

Enzo slid one arm beneath her knees and the other around her shoulders, lifting her, her head resting against his chest as he stepped out of the car.

As he carried her toward the mansion’s front door, a few maids who were passing by paused, their eyes widening as if they didn’t already know the two were engaged. Some stood in corners, pretending to busy themselves while sneaking glances at the scene before them.

Andrei reached the door first, pushing it open and stepping aside to let Enzo through. The second he crossed the threshold into the foyer, Uncle Evans was already approaching.

The older man’s gaze swept over them, landing on Adeline, still sound asleep in Enzo’s arms, then up to Enzo himself. "Is she alright? It’s not like her to fall asleep in the car."

He reached out, the back of his hand pressing lightly against her forehead, checking her temperature.

Enzo’s fingers twitched under Adeline’s weight, an almost uncontrollable urge rising within him to step back and pull her away from this man’s touch. The same man who had been orchestrating her death was standing there, playing the part of a concerned uncle, acting as if he cared. It was disgusting.

Forcing his expression to remain neutral, Enzo nodded once. "She’s just exhausted. I’ll take her to bed so she can rest properly. If you’ll excuse me."

Without waiting for a response, he walked past Evans.

He had barely taken a few steps when he heard the front door open behind him. His ears twitched at the sound, but he didn’t stop. Not until a voice rang out from behind.

"Oh! You’re back!"

Enzo sighed internally, recognizing the voice instantly. He rolled his eyes before composing himself, plastering a warm smile onto his face as he turned.

"Aunt Svetlana," he greeted. "Hello. How have you been?"
