Without turning his head, his eyes flicked toward the mansion’s balcony, catching sight of a familiar figure—Evans, standing rigid, his glare burning into them.

Lowering his voice, he leaned towards Adeline, his breath tickling her ear as he whispered, "Don’t look, but your uncle Evans is staring at us... menacingly,"

Instinctively, Adeline’s head began to turn, her curiosity getting the better of her. Before she could fully shift, Enzo lifted his palm and pressed it against her cheek, smoothly redirecting her gaze forward.

His chuckle vibrated against her shoulder as he teased, "I said don’t look, dumbass."

"Right, right."

He took advantage of the moment, leaning in to place a soft kiss against her cheek—then another, this time lingering.

Adeline raised a brow, side-eyeing him. "What are you doing?"

He grinned mischievously, brushing another fleeting kiss against her jaw before answering, "Showing your uncle exactly what he hates to see most."

He glanced back at the balcony just in time to see Evans turn on his heel, and storm inside.

Adeline led him further into the garden, showing him around. She pointed out various trees and flowers, explaining the history behind some of them—though Enzo wasn’t exactly the best at paying attention to things like that. Still, he let her talk, enjoying the way she lit up when she spoke about things she cared about.

When they were done, they both settled onto a wooden bench near a long stretch of flower beds.

Silence stretched between them—not an uncomfortable one, but enough for Enzo to feel the need to break it. He let his gaze wander before bumping his shoulder against Adeline’s playfully. "Nice garden, not gonna lie," he commented, nodding toward the flowers ahead. "Impressive, really. But mine’s a bit bigger."

"I mean, it is bigger." He said. "Just... less lively."

"Less lively? What’s that supposed to mean?"

He lifted his shoulders and encircled her with his right arm, guiding her to rest against his side, his fingers tracing slow, languid patterns across her shoulder. "Well... I’m not exactly a flower person, so my garden is mostly trees and a lot of green grass. Oh, and a ridiculously large fountain in the middle."

"Of course you’d have a massive fountain. Nothing says ’Enzo’ like an unnecessarily large display of wealth. Let me guess—it’s something dramatic like marble angels or lions spitting out water?"

He nodded enthusiastically. "That’s right. Eight lions in a circular pattern to be specific."

"You’re so predictable."

He let out a soft laugh, his eyes drifting across the garden in front of them. There was something about this morning that felt different. He felt good today—strangely good. Too good that it was almost suspicious.

A question that had been lingering in the back of his mind for a while now suddenly surfaced, and he tapped her arm to get her attention. "Adeline."

"Yes?"

"After we get married for your inheritance... Do we still have to divorce? You know, according to our agreement."

She hummed, staring down at her lap as she considered the question. They had only made that agreement because, back then, they didn’t like each other. He had no feelings for her. And she had certainly had none for him. Enzo was simply bored, and Adeline needed her inheritance and her uncles to be brought to justice. But now... things were a bit different.

After a long pause, she finally shook her head. "I’m not sure. But I guess... there’s no need to divorce."

Enzo smirked, his finger slipping under her chin, tilting her face up to meet his. He leaned in so close that their lips barely brushed, his blue eyes gleaming with teasing satisfaction as he murmured, "So you really love me that much, huh?"

She frowned, shoving his face away, her palm pressing against his cheek as she pushed him back. "You’re so annoying."

Enzo laughed and grabbed her wrist, intertwining their fingers. "You say that, but I know you love it," he mused, pressing a kiss against the back of her hand.

Enzo sat in the driver seat of his car, parked in an empty lot, the only sound being the rhythmic tapping of his fingers against the steering wheel. His other hand shifted the rearview mirror occasionally, more out of impatience than necessity.

A letter had come earlier that day, delivered by Andrei from Vincent, asking to meet at this particular spot. Enzo hadn’t wanted to come, but Vincent had mentioned Adeline in the writings, and that was enough to get his attention.

Minutes passed before he finally spotted movement to his right. Vincent approached, and as he reached the car, he pulled the passenger door open and slid inside, shutting it behind him.

He dipped his head respectfully. "Hello, Master Enzo."

Enzo barely acknowledged him with a nod before reaching into the glove compartment, retrieving the letter Vincent had sent, and tossing it towards him. "You wanted to see me?"

Vincent caught it, nodding. "Yes. As you know... the three months Lord Damien gave you are nearly up. You have only two weeks left."

A scoff left Enzo’s lips before Vincent could continue, his brows knitting together. "We’ve talked about this already, Vincent. I’m not coming back to our world."

Vincent shook his head. "But you have to. Do you really want Lord Damien to kill the girl? He was very serious when he said he would if you didn’t return."

Enzo’s fingers curled around the wheel, his voice dropping into a low, calm whisper, but laced with warning. "I already told you. I won’t let Father lay a single finger on Adeline. He can come if he wants, but he’ll return empty-handed."

Vincent stared down at his lap for a long moment, his fingers gripping his knee as he searched for the right words. He took a slow breath, then turned his head toward Enzo. "You’re being stubborn, my Liege. You and I both know that if Lord Damien sets foot in this world to kill her, the chances of you stopping him are low. He’s too powerful, and you know that."

"Face it. The only option you have is to return and take your place on the throne. If you really love the girl and want her to be safe, then do as your father says."
