The door to Adeline and Enzo’s hotel room clicked open, and Adeline stepped inside, followed closely by Enzo.

Her eyes widened as she took in the space before her. The room was breathtaking. It was far nicer than the one in Libu City—larger, grander, and undoubtedly more expensive. A massive chandelier hung from the ceiling, casting a warm glow over the room. Everything inside screamed wealth.

The place probably cost a fortune just for a single night’s stay.

Two queen-sized beds sat against the far wall, each covered in silky, elegant bedding. The windows were large, framed with deep red curtains, offering a breathtaking view of the city beyond.

Adeline was so caught up in admiring the place that she didn’t notice Enzo stepping up beside her—until she suddenly felt his arm drape over her shoulders.

He pulled her in close, the warmth of his body pressing against hers. His deep, smooth voice rumbled near her ear. "So... Do you like it?"

She ducked slightly, slipping out from under his arm and scooting a few steps to the side. "Y-Yeah," she stammered, her voice coming out awkwardly. "It’s... nice."

She moved deeper into the room, her fingers brushing over the soft fabric of the curtains near the balcony door while Enzo stood still, watching her with a small pout.

Her reaction to him had been off all morning. This was barely the Adeline he knew anymore, and he didn’t like it. It was really starting to bother him. If he didn’t set things straight now, she’d keep pulling away, and that was the last thing he wanted.

Just as she was about to reach the balcony door, she felt his strong hand grab her wrist. The next second, she found herself gently pushed back against the wall.

Enzo caged her in, placing his hands on either side of her against the wall, his eyes locking onto hers.

She felt like a deer caught in headlights, her pulse racing as she looked up at him with wide, unblinking eyes. "W-What are you doing?"

She bent down, attempting to slip out under his arm, but Enzo caught both of her shoulders, stopping her from escaping and straightening her back up. "No. Stay."

Taking a deep breath, he tilted his head slightly, studying her face before finally asking, "What’s gotten into you since morning? Is this about the kiss?" 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Adeline didn’t answer, swallowing a lump in her throat.

"Do I make you uncomfortable now?" he asked, his voice quieter, almost hesitant.

"No," she murmured, shaking her head. She turned her face to the side, avoiding his eyes, but Enzo wasn’t having that. He placed a hand on her cheek and gently turned her head back to face him.

"Then why have you been acting like my touch burns you since morning?"

She could ask herself the same question, because even she wasn’t sure. "I... I don’t know. Ever since the kiss, I’ve been feeling things I’ve never felt before. It was my first time, so I don’t even know if I’m supposed to feel this way about it."

Enzo’s eyebrows shot up as he absorbed her words, a flicker of surprise coursing through him before a small chuckle escaped his lips, leaving Adeline somewhat taken aback. "Are you serious?" he asked in between chuckles. "You’ve never kissed anyone before? Have you ever even been in a relationship?"

"No," she answered, her face burning red. "I’ve never been interested in those things."

It was embarrassing enough that a twenty-four-year-old who was as pretty as her had zero romantic experience, but having to admit it? That made it a hundred times worse, but she figured there was no use in lying about it.

Enzo slapped a hand over his face, a low laugh emanating from his chest. "Wow. I don’t know if I should laugh or be surprised."

"You’re already laughing, you idiot."

The second those words left her mouth, Enzo’s laughter came to an abrupt halt. There she is. That was the Adeline he was looking for. The Adeline he loved to mess with. The Adeline who never hesitated to throw an insult at him and the Adeline who made him laugh even when she wasn’t trying to.

He snapped his fingers. "Aha!" he exclaimed, grinning. "You’re coming back to normal."

Adeline blinked, realization slowly sinking in. The weird, awkward tension that had been suffocating her since morning was suddenly gone, just like that. It was the same thing that had happened earlier in the car—but this time, it felt better. She felt completely like herself again.

"Oh, yes, I’m finally ’back to normal’. Now, should we go sign the papers to get me out of the psych ward?"

"There’s the sarcasm," he said with a chuckle.

He leaned in, suddenly wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her into a hug—warm, and completely unexpected. His head rested against her shoulder as if this was something they had done a hundred times before. This was the first time he had ever hugged her, and yet here he was, doing it so casually.

"I missed you, Adeline. Even if it was just for a few hours."

She felt a small, uncomfortable squeeze in her chest and stiffened for a second, but the warmth of his embrace quickly melted through her resistance. Still, her pride refused to let her soften so easily.

She wriggled her shoulders, scowling. "Get off me."

Instead of letting go, Enzo tightened his grip slightly, sighing in relief. "Come on, this is such a wholesome moment."

"Enzo Laureati," she deadpanned, "if you don’t get off me in the next three seconds, I’m going to kill you."

That made him laugh once again, as he finally loosened his grip, stepping back with a playful grin. "There’s the death threat. I missed that too."

"Also... I’m really sorry about the kiss. If I knew you’d hate it afterwards, I never would’ve done it," he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck, looking unsure.

Adeline’s heart did an odd little flip at his words, and a soft blush crept up her cheeks.
