"I guess it’s fine," he said with a sigh. "She already knew most of it anyway. And if she were to betray us tomorrow..." He paused, lifting a hand before Adeline could interrupt. "Not saying she will. But if she did, it wouldn’t really matter whether or not she knew about the herbs or our trip to Vegas. She wouldn’t need them to sell us out."

"All she has to do is tell your uncles that we’re pretending to be engaged and that I’m helping you to bring them to justice."

Adeline bit her lip, nodding slowly. She understood his concerns, but she still believed Evelyn would never do something like that.

"Well, I’m going to go get ready now," she said, gesturing towards the bathroom.

Enzo hummed in acknowledgment, watching as she turned and walked off.

Adeline and Enzo stood outside the hotel, the warm city air brushing against them as they waited for their ride. Enzo had his backpack slung over one shoulder while his other hand gripped the handle of Adeline’s rolling suitcase. His phone was pressed against his ear, his tone low and businesslike.

Adeline, meanwhile, stood a few steps away from him, her arms folded as she watched the steady flow of cars passing by, eyes narrowing each time one slowed down.

Enzo ended the call and slipped his phone into his pocket before turning to her. His expression immediately flattened into a deadpan stare as he realized how far she had drifted from him. With a sigh, he dragged the suitcase along with him, closing the gap between them until he was standing right beside her. He didn’t say anything. Just stood there, waiting.

His ears immediately picked up on the sound, and he turned his head to face her. "What’s funny?"

"I just thought it would be a Rolls-Royce, that’s all," she said, shaking her head, looking up at him with a playful smile.

Enzo let out a short, unimpressed hmph. "So did I," he admitted, folding his arms. "Clearly, Andrei hasn’t been paying attention."

She entered the car first, shifting closer to the edge to make space for Enzo, and once he settled in beside her, the driver pulled out onto the road, merging into traffic.

She leaned against the window, watching the city pass by. For the first time since that damn kiss, her mind felt clear. That one moment had left her flustered all morning. Every time she so much as glanced at Enzo, a strange heat would rise to her cheeks, and she hated it. She hated how easily he could throw her off balance.
