"We are here to have a meeting like civilized folks, Nolan." Argilia said, shaking her head. "If you can’t do that, then I’m going to have to ask you to get—"

Her words were cut short as, in the blink of an eye, Nolan vanished from his chair, followed by a loud crash. Damien’s chair clattered to the ground, empty.

Argilia barely had time to process what had just happened before a gust of wind blasted her hair into her face. When she brushed it back and turned, the sight behind her made her gasp.

Damien, faster than anyone could react, had crossed the table, zooming past her while grabbing Nolan and slamming him against the wall. His hand was wrapped tightly around Nolan’s neck, his fangs fully elongated and his once-brown eyes now a searing crimson.

"What on earth are you doing, Lord Damien?!" Argilia shouted, quickly rising to her feet. "Are you out of your mind?"

Petrov and Julian were also on their feet, though Julian held onto his own chair tightly. The old councilor’s calm demeanor barely faltered as he watched the scene unfolding.

Despite Damien’s iron grip around his throat, Nolan let out a hoarse, mocking laugh. "Oh, so scary," he rasped, his voice drenched in sarcasm even as his air supply was being cut off. "Is this supposed to frighten me?"

"I’ve warned you long enough, Nolan," Damien said with a deep growl before releasing his hold on Nolan’s neck, only to grab him by the collar and hurl him to the ground with bone-cracking force.

Nolan’s body slammed into the floor, creating a crater-like dent, and dust rose from the impact, swirling in the air.

The room shook violently as Damien suddenly stomped his foot against the floor, sending a shockwave rippling outward. Argilia stumbled, grabbing the edge of the table for support, while Petrov rose into the air, hovering just a few feet above the ground, his long robes billowing in the air.

Julian fell to the floor, landing on his backside before scrambling up, whimpering and trembling. He sat on his chair and clung to it, his eyes squeezed shut.

Damien stomped again, focusing his energy so the force channeled directly beneath Nolan’s body. The ground beneath him erupted, sending Nolan’s form hurtling into the air. Before gravity could reclaim him, Damien’s foot connected with his torso, sending him rocketing across the room at a terrifying speed.

His body collided with the far wall, the sheer force of the impact shattering the stone and creating a cloud of dust and debris.

The vampire king stood still, his fists clenched at his sides, staring at the wall. The room was silent, save for the soft groans of the stone structure settling. Then, the sound of rocks being pushed aside came through, followed by coughing.

From the haze of dust, Nolan stumbled out, his hand clutching his stomach as blood dripped from the corner of his mouth. He coughed violently, spitting more blood onto the floor.

"You wretched bastard!" he roared.

Spreading his arms wide, his nails and fangs elongated. A tearing sound followed as his shirt shredded, and a pair of large, black, bat-like wings erupted from his back.

Pointing at Damien with a trembling hand, Nolan sneered. "You’ve messed with the wrong vampire, Damien. When I’m done with you, you’re going to wish you never got up from that chair. I’m going to—"

But before he could finish his sentence, Damien was suddenly beside him, moving so fast it seemed like he’d teleported. His hands were clasped behind his back as he tilted his head and smirked. "Is that so?"

Nolan’s eyes widened in shock, and he recoiled, flapping his wings and ascending into the air. Hovering just above Damien, he glared down at him.

Damien didn’t move, lifting his head up to look at him. "The problem with you, Nolan, is that you’re stubborn and reckless. You don’t know when to shut up or back down, and one day, that’s going to cost you your life."

With a scream of anger, Nolan shot upward, flying high toward the tall ceiling. He then descended, his claws extended and aimed directly at Damien. But sadly for him, Damien was faster.

He leaped upward into the air with such force and speed that it seemed like he was flying. Meeting Nolan midair, he reached out and grabbed him by the base of his wings where they connected to his back.

He yanked both wings together and hurled him downward as if he weighed nothing. Nolan’s body slammed into the ground, cracking the floor beneath him.

Damien landed nearby and straightened his jacket, brushing dust off his sleeve with a look of disgust before stepping towards the wreckage.

As Damien closed in on Nolan’s cratered landing spot, the thick dust began to settle. But before he could get close enough to actually see his body, a shadow flashed within the dust, followed by the sound of flapping wings, causing him to halt.

The wings flapped again, this time harder, sending a wave of dust spiraling toward him, engulfing him and clouding his vision entirely. He raised his arm to his face and squinted, trying to see through the thick veil, but it was useless.

Suddenly, a shadow tore through the dust so fast that Damien couldn’t even react. Nolan’s fist shot out, connecting with his jaw and landing a powerful punch to his face.

The force was immense, pushing Damien back several steps, but his feet stayed planted on the ground. He wiped his mouth, a thin line of blood streaking his knuckles.

His eyes darted around, searching for Nolan, but the dust was too thick. Instead, he decided to rely on his hearing, his ears twitching as he focused on the sounds around him. If his eyes couldn’t track Nolan, his enhanced hearing would have to.

A few seconds later, he heard it again—the sound of air being cut, but this time it was behind him. He turned just in time to avoid the next strike, but the sharp edges of one of Nolan’s wings grazed his arm, slicing deeply into his flesh. A long, deep cut opened along his bicep, blood spilling onto the floor.

A low growl escaped his lips, and he clutched his bleeding arm, his head swiveling frantically as he tried to pinpoint Nolan’s location.

The flapping of wings reached his ears again. He spun toward the sound and saw Nolan rushing toward him at full speed, his wings spread wide and his claws extended.
