Inside the bathroom, Adeline marched toward the sink, the blanket slipping off her shoulders and pooling onto the floor. She turned on the faucet, cupped her hands under the running water, and splashed it onto her face. The coldness jolted her system awake, clearing away the remnants of sleep.

Lifting her head, she stared at her reflection in the mirror, eyes blank, water dripping down her cheeks. "I kissed—" she paused, shaking her head. "No... I fucking made out with Enzo Laureti."

She bent down to splash her face with more water, as if it could wash away the memory. But it was no use. The moment replayed in her mind.

The way her hands had curled into his hair, and the way his lips claimed hers like he had been waiting forever to do so. And then, her own voice echoed in her mind: "I prefer hotter."

Her stomach sank as she remembered exactly how she sounded when she had said that.

Sighing loudly, she buried her face in her hand and whispered, "What the fuck is wrong with you, Adeline?"

She wasn’t disgusted that she had kissed him. That wasn’t the problem at all. The real issue? She was feeling pure, burning embarrassment.

She had never kissed anyone before, let alone made out like that. This was all new territory, and the fact that it had been with him of all people—Enzo, the smug guy who loved to push her buttons—only made it worse. And the worst part? She actually liked it. She had always felt something for Enzo.

It had been there, buried beneath her constant annoyance toward him, hidden behind every argument, every glare and scoff. She had convinced herself that she couldn’t possibly have feelings for anyone, not to talk of someone as insufferable as him. And yet, last night, her subconscious had betrayed her, letting out all the thoughts she had locked away.

With a defeated sigh, she let herself sink to the floor, her knees pressing against the cold tiles. She glanced toward the bathroom door, debating whether she should leave. But then what? How the hell was she supposed to face him after this?

She could already imagine how this would go—Enzo would act completely normal like it was no big deal, while she would be stuck feeling like an awkward mess.

Meanwhile, outside in the bedroom, Enzo was getting undressed. He unbuttoned the shirt he had slept in and shrugged it off, tossing it onto the bed, his toned muscles flexing as he rolled his shoulders.

His mind wasn’t exactly occupied with last night, but rather the fact that Adeline was taking an absurdly long time in the bathroom. Glancing at the door, he shook his head and walked over.

He raised his hand to knock—but before he could touch the wood, the door suddenly swung open.

Adeline stepped out, and then immediately regretted it. Her jaw dropped as her gaze landed on his bare torso. Her eyes slowly traveled upward—past the lines of his abs, the muscles of his chest, and the curve of his collarbone—until they finally met his face.

Enzo was staring down at her with one brow arched. "You done?" he asked. "I need to take a shower."

Her lips parted, but no words came out. Heat surged up her neck, spreading across her cheeks in a visible blush. She squeezed her eyes shut, spun on her heel, and practically jumped back into the bathroom, slamming the door closed.

"Put on a damn shirt!" she yelled through the door.

Enzo threw his hands up. "Oh, come on! We’ve lived in the same room for three months! This isn’t the first time you’ve seen me shirtless!"

She clenched her fists, pressing her forehead against the door. "Yeah, but I didn’t make out with you before seeing you shirtless back then! It’s not the same."

He exhaled heavily, turning and walking back to the bed, picking up the shirt he had tossed aside earlier. He slipped it on and began buttoning it up in a hurry, missing a few buttons in the process but not really caring. With his sleeves still rolled up, he walked back to the bathroom door and knocked. "Alright, I put my shirt back on. Can you come out now?"

There was a brief silence before he heard the lock click. The door creaked open, and Adeline stepped out, clutching the blanket around her like it was some kind of protective shield.

Her gaze flickered up to him, only to immediately dart away when she caught sight of the gaps in his shirt where he had missed the buttons, revealing hints of his abdomen. Clearing her throat, she stepped aside, keeping her gaze fixed on the floor. "You can go in now,"

She made a move to walk past him, but just as she did, Enzo, without turning back, reached out, his fingers wrapping gently around her wrist. He stopped her in her tracks, pulling her back in front of him.

A strange, electric sensation spread up her arm from where his skin touched hers, and a thick wave of goosebumps rose all over her body.

His grip wasn’t tight—it was soft, questioning, almost hesitant. Enzo’s voice was quieter this time as he asked, "Are you okay? Should we talk about it?"

Adeline yanked her arm back, shaking her head frantically. She forced a bright, unconvincing smile. "Nope! I’m fine! There’s nothing to talk about!"

Taking slow steps backward, she widened the distance between them, all while gesturing toward the bathroom. "Go on," she said before turning her back to him.

Enzo lingered for a moment, watching her, but eventually stepped into the bathroom, closing the door behind him.

The second he was gone, Adeline let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding. Her hands were still tingling.

She flung the blanket onto the bed before making her way to the chair in the corner of the room. Pulling it out from the small desk, she plopped down and scooted forward, her elbows resting on the table.

A mirror hung on the wall in front of her, and as she stared at her reflection, she inhaled deeply before raising a hand and giving herself a light slap on the cheek. "Get yourself together, Adeline."
