Enzo sat in his office with his legs crossed and a pen twirling idly between his fingers as he scanned over a few documents. The sound of the door opening drew his attention, and Andrei stepped in.

"Boss...Another letter from your father." Andrei said, bowing slightly before placing a sealed envelope on the desk.

Enzo sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Of course it is. What's it this time?"

He leaned forward, picking up the envelope and ripping it open with disinterest. His eyes scanned the contents, and an annoyed chuckle escaped him. "This old man really doesn't know when to quit, does he? Isn't it obvious by now? How many letters do I have to ignore before he gets the message that I don't plan on returning?"

He looked up at Andrei and waved a dismissive hand. "I don't need to read the rest." Then, he gripped the letter with both hands and began tearing it into shreds, letting the pieces fall to the desk like confetti.

"Excuse me." Andrei nodded before turning and leaving the office.

Adeline stomped through the long hallways of the mansion, her hands balled into fists as she headed towards Enzo's office. When she rounded the corner, she saw Andrei stepping out of the office and closing the door behind him.

Adeline marched up to the door, reaching for the handle, but before she could touch it, Andrei's arm shot out, blocking the handle. "Miss Adeline, you can't enter. Boss doesn't see anyone without permission."

Adeline narrowed her eyes at him, taking a step back to fully look at him. "Move, Andrei. I need to see your annoying boss about something important."

"The rules are clear. Unless the boss calls for you, you can't—"

Adeline shoved his arm aside, yanked the door open, and stepped inside. "Hey, Enzo!" she called out loudly, surveying the room as the sound left her mouth.

Inside, Enzo's chair was turned away from her, and at the sound of her voice, the chair swiveled around, revealing him seated there with a stack of files in his hand. His eyes lit up with amusement as he saw her, and a small smile crept onto his face.

He shifted his gaze to Andrei, who was standing in the doorway, and gave him a brief nod. Andrei bowed slightly before closing the door, leaving them alone.

Enzo set the files aside, leaning forward. "Well, good morning to you too," he said, gesturing to the chair opposite him. "What brings you to my office this early? If you're here to—"

Adeline slapped her palm flat on the desk, cutting him off. Enzo raised an eyebrow and chuckled, liking her fiery demeanor. At least something to entertain him on such a boring morning.

She settled into a seat, and once comfortably situated, she cleared her throat. "I'm here because I've thought about what you mentioned before about us getting married to help me get my inheritance. I told you last time that I'd think about it, and I have. I've decided to agree to it."

Enzo's eyes widened, surprised that she had actually agreed. "Oh?" he said with a teasing tone. "And what made you agree?" 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Adeline rolled her eyes, knowing where he was going with the question, and decided to ignore it. She gestured to her bandaged arm. "Anyway, my wound's nearly healed, so it's time for me to go home."

Enzo stood from his chair and walked to the corner of the room, grabbing a nearby swivel chair and pushing it across the floor. He sat on the chair with his backside to the front, his head reclining against the back of the chair, and rolled himself closer to her, stopping just a few inches away.

"Well then, when do we leave? You're going to have to introduce me to your family."

Adeline didn't answer right away. Instead, she nudged his chair away with her foot, creating some distance between them. "Let's go over everything again."

"I'm all ears, princess."

Adeline nodded too, straightening her posture. "For now, you'll act as my fiancé. Once we return to my home, I'll introduce you to everyone and tell them about the engagement, and after a short while, we'll get married."

Enzo raised a hand, wanting to talk, but Adeline frowned at him, and he grinned, gesturing toward her. "My apologies. Continue."

"After the wedding, I'll gain access to my inheritance. Once that's done, we'll divorce, and that's the end of it. No strings attached. Are we clear?"

Enzo's eyes drew together, his forehead wrinkling under the strain of a frown. His confusion was evident as he pushed off his chair and walked around Adeline, coming to lean against the table directly in front of her. His arms crossed over his chest as he looked down at her. "Why after a short while? What's the hurry to get married so soon?"

"The sooner I get my inheritance, the better," Adeline replied bluntly.

Enzo shook his head. "Sure, but wouldn't you want to take this chance to expose your family for trying to kill you? Are you just going to let them get away with trying to murder you?"

"Until you officially get the inheritance, they'll likely keep trying to find ways to get rid of you. But once you have it, any plans they make to kill you would be useless because you'll be in control—able to write your own will, decide where your fortune goes, and make sure they don't get a single penny if anything happens to you."

"What are you saying?" Adeline asked.

"What I'm saying is, since they're desperate to take everything from you. Why not use their desperation to expose them?"

"You have an entire year to get married according to the will. You've got a lot of time, so there's no need to be in such a hurry. Bringing your horrible family to justice while inheriting assets worth billions sounds fun to me. And who knows, maybe you might even uncover things you never even knew about.

Adeline sighed, her eyes darting away as she considered his words. "And what if they succeed in killing me before we even get that far? They would get everything since we aren't married yet."

Enzo pushed off the desk and closed the distance between them. Gently, he reached out and grabbed her uninjured arm before interlocking his fingers with hers.

"Adeline Smith. As long as I'm with you, I swear on my life that I won't let death come your way."
