Richard, Alfonso, and Evans stepped inside, their conversation halting the moment they spotted the three standing in the foyer.

Alfonso, who had been the one laughing, immediately stopped, his eyes widening slightly as he took in the sight of Adeline and Enzo.

Richard, looking visibly exhausted from the long day, resumed walking, barely sparing them a glance. As he passed by, he simply waved lazily in greeting and disappeared into the hallway ahead, making a beeline for the elevator.

Evans and Alfonso, however, approached them.

Evans cleared his throat, his eyes locking onto Adeline first. "Hello, Adeline," he greeted, his tone neutral. Then his gaze shifted to Enzo and Andrei. "Hello, you two."

Neither Enzo nor Andrei responded.

Adeline, on the other hand, offered a small, polite nod.

Alfonso’s attention momentarily diverted to his wristwatch as he checked the time, a frown marring his features before he looked up again. "Where are you two headed at this time?" He asked, even though he really didn’t give a shit. "It’s quite late."

Suddenly, Adeline felt Enzo’s arms encircling her waist, drawing her closer to him with a possessive grip. He donned a smug smirk as he planted a lingering kiss on her temple, making sure her uncles got a good view of it.

"I’m taking my love on a date to Maison Lumière, the best, and the most expensive restaurant in the entire state."

Evans’ face twisted in disgust as he stared at the two of them. Watching Enzo and Adeline act like lovebirds in front of him only reminded him of how close she was to getting her inheritance—of how many times he had failed to kill her.

Without another word, he shoved his hands into his pockets and stormed past them.

Alfonso, on the other hand, lingered for a moment, an awkward grin stretching across his face. The three—Adeline, Enzo, and Andrei—watched Evans leave before turning to him.

He emitted a dry chuckle, pointing a finger in his brother’s direction. "Don’t mind him. He’s just cranky from work."

Then, with a wave, he followed after Evans, calling over his shoulder, "You two have a nice—uh, date!"

As soon as they were out of sight, Adeline snorted, covering her mouth before breaking into laughter. "Cranky, my foot."

Enzo chuckled as his hands slid up her back, resting lightly against her shoulder blades before nudging her forward. "Come on, let’s get going."

Evans stood in front of the elevator, tapping the call button repeatedly. The light above the doors remained unchanged, signaling that it was still on its way down. He let out a harsh breath, his fingers twitching with irritation.

When Alfonso caught up to him, he leaned against the wall, eyeing him.

Evans’ patience finally snapped, and he slammed his fist against the button.

"My goodness," Alfonso laughed. "Calm down, brother. Richard just took the elevator up, so it’s obviously still on its way back down."

Evans’ head snapped toward him, his eyes narrowing into a dangerous glare. He didn’t need to say a word, but his stare alone was enough to send the message.

Alfonso immediately raised his hands in surrender. "Alright, alright. Never mind then."

As the elevator doors finally glided open, the two entered, and as soon as they shut, Evans began muttering to himself inaudibly, his fists clenched tightly at his side.

When the elevator reached their floor, the doors slid open once again, and Evans stormed out, heading toward his room.

Alfonso trailed behind, watching as he shoved his door open and stepped inside, not bothering to close it behind him.

He reached into his pocket, pulled out his phone, and immediately dialed a number, his grip on the device tight as he brought it to his ear, pacing back and forth like a caged animal.

Alfonso hesitated, debating whether he should go in and see what Evans was up to, or just head to his own room. But he was a curious guy. Shrugging to himself, he stepped inside, closing the door behind him, and made his way over to the sofa, flopping down onto it with a relaxed sigh.

The line rang twice before it picked up.

The first thing Evans heard was the crinkling of a snack bag, followed by a long, obnoxious slurping.

Then, after a brief moment, Dacatt’s voice came through. "Hello?"

"Where are you, Dacatt," Evans asked.

There was another slurp, followed by the distinct sound of a can being crushed and tossed aside. Then, Dacatt said flatly. "At home."

"Listen to me. Enzo and Adeline are on their way to a date at Maison Lumière as we speak. Follow them. Take this opportunity and eliminate her."

"You do realize what time it is, right?" Dacatt asked.

"And besides, by the time I even get there, they’ll have already reached the restaurant and be inside. Maison Lumière isn’t just some random restaurant you can walk into."

"You need a reservation—weeks in advance. You need special tickets just to get inside. Which, by the way, I don’t have. So unless they just so happened to be sitting by a window where I can get a clear shot, there’s really nothing I can do."

Evans abruptly came to a stop, pausing in his tracks and letting out a deep sigh, his fingers pressed against his temples. "Just go. Try your best. If you successfully do it, I’ll pay you more than you can imagine."

"Fine," Dacatt agreed reluctantly, ending the call before Evans could get another word in.

The abruptness of it irritated him, but he brushed it off and placed the phone down on the table. When he turned, he was met with Alfonso’s skeptical gaze from where he sat on the couch, arms crossed.

He rolled his eyes. "What?"

Alfonso got up, rolling his shoulders in a lazy shrug. "From what I remember, this Dacatt guy was supposed to take care of Adeline a long time ago. You paid him to do so back when we first met him at the bar. If he’s the expert hitman he claimed to be, she should’ve been dead by now."
