Vincent glanced up at him, his face a pitiful mess of tear-streaked cheeks. "When Enzo found out I had been spying on him a while back, he outright told me that the girl was his fiancée."

Andrei’s brow lifted slightly, but he said nothing.

"And ever since then," Vincent continued, "I’ve been lying to Lord Damien about them. I just couldn’t bring myself to tell him the truth because I know what he’s capable of." He let out a trembling breath. "I was so scared. I thought you would tell him the truth back there, because... Well, it’s Damien."

An involuntary scoff escaped Andrei, and he shook his head, his grip on Vincent tightening reassuringly. "I would never reveal anything about Enzo’s personal life to anyone without his permission. No matter who they are."

Vincent’s shoulders sagged in relief as if a weight had been lifted from his chest.

They reached a door that led into the portal room, and Vincent stepped aside, raising the folded papers in his hand. "Well, I have to go deliver these to Councilor Petrov. It was really nice to see you."

Andrei observed him for a moment, noticing the small pout on his face—the same one he’d had since childhood whenever he missed someone or lost something.

He sighed and opened his arms, wiggling his fingers. "Come on."

Vincent didn’t hesitate and rushed forward, throwing himself into Andrei’s embrace. He buried his face in his chest, his arms locked tightly around him, gripping his back as if afraid to let go.

Andrei chuckled, wrapping an arm around him in return. He felt quiet, shuddering sobs against his chest. Vincent was crying again, but it was different this time.

Andrei’s head tilted downward, and he gently rested his chin on top of Vincent’s head, tenderly patting his back with one hand. "Why are you crying?" he asked quietly.

"I hate it here," Vincent admitted. "It’s been horrible and lonely in the castle ever since you and Enzo left. There’s nobody to talk to anymore. Most of the time, I’m just running around in fear, following orders. That’s all I do now."

Andrei had never thought about what life had been like for Vincent after they left. He had been too focused on their own business. But now, hearing this—seeing how truly miserable he was—it hurt more than he expected.

He pressed a hand to the back of Vincent’s head, holding him as if he were still the same boy he had always comforted all those years ago.

"You shouldn’t cry," he murmured. "You know you can always use Damien’s portal to visit me in the human world if you want to."

They stayed like that for a short while, neither moving, nor speaking. Eventually, Vincent pulled back, his eyes still damp, but a small, grateful smile on his face. He sniffled, gesturing toward the door.

"Go on," he said softly. "I don’t want to hold you."

Andrei gave him a long look before reaching out to ruffle his hair one last time. "Goodbye, Vincent."

Adeline stood in front of the tall mirror in her room with a thin silver necklace in her hands, her fingers fumbling with the clasp as she struggled to fasten it around her neck. She sighed in frustration, tilting her head slightly, but no matter how she twisted her hands, the buckle refused to cooperate.

Her reflection stared back at her—She wore a red side-slit dress, its silky fabric hugging her body elegantly, paired with black heels. Her golden blonde hair was swept to one side, cascading over her shoulder in soft waves. She had been getting ready for what felt like hours, but now, standing here, she couldn’t believe that this was actually happening.

She was about to go on her very first date, and it was with Enzo. It still felt surreal. Just last week, they were nothing more than a fake fiancé and fiancée. Now, everything had changed.

As she kept struggling with the necklace, growing more irritated by the second, she suddenly felt Enzo’s fingers graze hers from behind.

"Allow me, cupcake," he whispered.

His breath fanned against the back of her neck, sending a shiver down her spine as he gently took the necklace from her hands, clasping it easily and letting it rest against her collarbone.

His hands slid down, wrapping securely around her waist before pulling her flush against his chest while his chin rested on her shoulder. Her head tilted slightly as he watched her reflection in the mirror, his deep, mesmerizing eyes roaming over her appearance.

"You look stunning," he said, his voice smooth like velvet. "I swear, I want to gobble you up right now."

Adeline’s cheeks flushed instantly, her gaze darting away as she scoffed.

Enzo chuckled at her reaction, turning his head slightly to press a kiss against her cheek before murmuring, "Meanie," with a playful pout.

When he finally pulled back, she turned to face him, her eyes immediately assessing what he was wearing. As always, he was dressed in a suit—well, part of one.

He had foregone the jacket, wearing only a black dress shirt and fitted black pants. The top two buttons of his shirt were undone, revealing just a hint of his collarbone. And, without a doubt, he looked devastatingly handsome.

He noticed her staring and smirked before stooping slightly and extending his hand toward her with a charming tilt of his head. "Shall we, my lady?"

A soft, delighted giggle escaped her, and she placed her hand in his, his fingers gently encasing hers. He then pulled her closer, guiding her hand to his lips where he delicately pressed a gentle kiss against the back.

By the time they left their room, it was nearly 8:30—the time her uncles usually returned from work at the company.

As they stepped into the foyer, Andrei was already there, leaning against one of the marble pillars, his arms crossed over his broad chest as he waited patiently for them.

As soon as he noticed them, he promptly straightened up and headed in their direction, offering a slight bow of his head before asking, "Are you ready to go?"

Before either of them could answer, the sound of laughter echoed through the entrance, followed by the front door swinging open.
