Adeline stumbled, her legs giving out from the rough push. She landed hard on her backside, her palms scraping against the rough asphalt as she tried to catch herself.

Tears stung her eyes—half from pain, half from sheer helplessness—as she scrambled to sit upright, her heart breaking at the sight of Enzo still trapped in Damien’s clutches.

Damien then turned his attention away from her and fixed his gaze on Argilia. "We’re done here."

Argilia inclined her head slightly, lifting one hand lazily. The chains coiled around Andrei shifted, lifting him off the ground. They carried him a few feet away before retracting and releasing him. He hit the ground, falling to his knees, but he barely reacted—his eyes fixed instead on what was happening before him.

Argilia turned her attention to Damien once again, stretching her hand out toward him. The chains twisted and lunged toward Damien’s side, but not to bind him. They moved past him, wrapping instead around Enzo’s body, pinning his arms tightly against his torso.

Damien finally released his grip from Enzo’s neck, letting his son crumple down onto the ground, where he lay on his side.

Enzo thrashed, trying to squirm out of the restraints, but it was useless. Argilia’s chains were infamous. Once they locked onto a target, especially a vampire, it was nearly impossible to break free. At least for anyone who wasn’t Damien.

Argilia clenched her fist, and the chains snapped near their roots—right where they had burst from the cracked asphalt, leaving the links still coiled tightly around Enzo.

Damien reached down, grabbing Enzo roughly by the collar of his shirt and yanking him up off the ground.

Everyone—including Argilia herself—froze in shock as Damien flung Enzo toward the portal without a second thought.

Enzo’s body hurtled through the portal, the surface rippling violently as it swallowed him whole. In a blink, he was gone.

Argilia blinked twice, her expression shifting from shock to deadpan as she turned her head slowly toward Damien. "That’s your son and heir, not some useless object, Lord Damien."

Damien waved a hand dismissively. "He’ll be fine," he said, unconcerned.

Adeline was already pushing herself to her feet, tears flooding her vision, blurring everything around her. "Enzo!" She screamed as she bolted forward, toward the portal.

Before she could reach it, Damien’s hand clamped around her arm, yanking her back, hard. "I said, Stay out of this."

She shook her head furiously, sobbing uncontrollably and thrashing in his grip, trying to tear herself free. "No! Bring him back! Please–bring him back!"

Damien, unmoved by her cries, simply held her in place as if she were a child throwing a tantrum. His eyes flickered over to Andrei, who was still kneeling nearby, watching the scene unfold with a tight, conflicted expression. "Are you coming?" Damien asked him.

Andrei’s eyes darted to the portal, then they flicked over to Adeline, who was sobbing, helpless and afraid.

He could follow them, but he knew what Enzo would want him to do. Enzo wouldn’t want him to leave Adeline here. She was alone now. Confused. Heartbroken. The world around her had collapsed in a matter of minutes. Plus, it was dark, and they were in the middle of a lonely road. He couldn’t leave her here.

"No," he said with a firm shake of his head. "I’m staying here."

Damien clicked his tongue in annoyance. "Pity."

He shoved Adeline towards Andrei, and she stumbled back, landing against Andrei, who caught her, steadying her.

"You are of no use to me, as I was only here for my son. So suit yourself. I’m sure you can find a way to return once you get tired of this place," he said over his shoulder, his cape billowing around him as he strode toward the portal.

He passed Argilia without slowing, speaking in a low, commanding voice. "Let’s go."

As Damien and Argilia began striding toward the portal, the sound of Adeline’s voice cracked through the cold air. "No!" she yelled. Her legs moved before her mind could catch up, sprinting toward them, arm outstretched and fingers trembling, determined to follow them to wherever they had taken him. But before she could even make it halfway, a hand seized her wrist tightly, yanking her to a stop.

She gasped, spinning around to find Andrei holding her back. "What are you doing? Let go of me!" She cried, struggling against his grasp, her face flushed with anger and fear.

Andrei shook his head. "Calm down, Miss Adeline," he urged, his voice low but steady. "Don’t do something you’ll regret. You can’t go charging in like this—you’ll only make things worse for you."

She turned her tear-filled eyes back toward the portal just in time to catch the last flash of Damien’s cape sweeping through the portal before it snapped shut.

Her knees buckled, and a choked sound tore from her throat as she crumpled against Andrei, who wrapped his arms around her, steadying her trembling frame.

Meanwhile, in the vampire world, deep within the castle’s hallways, Vincent walked at a brisk pace, his gaze fixed on the stack of papers in his hands. He murmured to himself, scanning the pages and making mental notes, his brow furrowed in focus.

Suddenly, the stone wall beside him rippled, and a distorted scream pierced through the air. Vincent halted, his head jerking up in alarm, and his eyes darting toward the disturbance. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

Enzo’s body came flying out of the portal, wrapped in chains. He crashed straight into Vincent, knocking the delicate man flat to the ground with a startled yelp.

Papers flew into the air, scattering across the floor.

Vincent’s body slammed against the wall behind him before crumbling to the ground with a grunt. He let out a groan, clutching his ribs where Enzo’s weight had collided with him.

"Ah—damn it..." he hissed, his face twisting in pain. For a moment, he lay there to steady himself before lifting his head. The breath in his lungs froze as his gaze darted from the scattered documents to the figure lying on the cold floor.

"E-Enzo...?" He gasped, his legs kicking frantically as he scrambled backward on the floor, horror and shock etched on his face. His back met with the wall, and for a few seconds, all he could do was stare at the chained vampire prince sprawled before him.
