Andrei continued his work, completely unfazed by their bickering. He was already used to it by now. He wrapped the bandage around Enzo’s shoulder, securing it tightly.

The bandage looped from his shoulder, down his side, and around his back, covering the wound completely. As he finished the first roll, he reached for a second. "I’ll wrap it a bit more."

Enzo nodded in approval, and just as he began wrapping the second layer, the earbuds in his ears emitted a beep. He paused, pressing a finger against the small device.

He listened intently to the person on the other end of the call for a few moments before tapping the earbud to terminate the connection. Then, he diverted his attention towards Enzo.

"It’s an urgent call from the company, Boss."

"Is it something you can handle?" Enzo asked.

Andrei gave a single nod, still holding onto the bandage with one hand to keep it from unraveling. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

"Then go," Enzo said with a wave of his hand. "Take care of it."

He pivoted his head towards Adeline, gesturing at the bandage. "Miss Adeline, can you finish wrapping this?"

Adeline’s lashes fluttered rapidly at his request, her eyes flickering down to Enzo. Wrapping the bandage seemed straightforward enough from what she’d seen Andrei do, but the idea of doing it for Enzo made her hesitate. Then again, she couldn’t ignore the reality. Enzo had taken those bullets for her. If he hadn’t, she’d likely be dead by now.

Sighing, she gave a reluctant nod and stepped closer. Andrei took her wrist gently, guiding her hand to the bandage and holding it in place. "It’s simple. Just follow the same pattern."

Letting go of her wrist, he stepped in front of Enzo and gave a slight bow of his head. "Excuse me, Boss."

Enzo nodded, watching as he turned and left the room, the door clicking shut behind him, leaving him alone with Adeline.

She exhaled, muttering to herself as she began wrapping the bandage around his shoulder. The fabric stretched taut as she leaned forward to wrap it past his side.

As she worked, her eyes briefly locked in with Enzo’s, who was watching her with a smug smile. She let out an exasperated sigh and reached up with her free hand, placing it firmly on his cheek and pushing his head to the side. "Look that way."

"So bossy," he murmured.

Adeline intentionally pressed a finger against the bandaged wound on his stomach, expecting him to wince or at least flinch, but all she got was a sarcastic "Ouch."

She stared at his amused face, confused. "Why isn’t this fool reacting? Just a few minutes ago, he was groaning as if he was going to die," she thought, before dismissing it with a flick of her head and continuing what she was doing.

Once she was done, she stepped back, gesturing towards him with a confident smile. "There. All done."

Enzo glanced down at his shoulder, following the trail of bandage that wrapped around his chest, his side, and back again. Unlike Andrei’s neat work, hers was noticeably rougher.

"Hm... It’s rough, but it works. Though, if you wrapped some more of that around my face, people might mistake me for a mummy."

The smile that had graced her face evaporated in an instant, replaced by a stony expression. "You’re welcome, idiot."

Just then, a soft knock came at the door. It opened, and a maid stepped in with her head bowed, carrying a fresh set of clothes in her hand. A folded black button-up shirt and black pants. Walking up to the bed, she placed the clothes down on the edge before giving them a subtle nod and quietly leaving the room.

Her eyes switched from the clothing to Enzo, and she found him looking at her with a goofy grin spread across his face. It didn’t take her long to figure out what he was about to ask.

"No," she said sternly.

"Come on," he whined, gesturing toward the clothes. "How am I supposed to put those on if you don’t help me?"

She let out a baffled scoff, visibly disgusted. "Absolutely not."

"I’ll call one of your maids to help," she said, turning on her heel and marching toward the door. Gripping the handle, she twisted it and pulled the door open slightly, but before she could step out, Enzo’s voice stopped her.

"Adeline, please. I can’t have the maids help me get dressed. You’re my fiancée. We’ve been living in the same room for almost two months now. I’d much rather you help me."

She laughed incredulously, whipping back around to face him, her index finger raised in correction. "’Fake’ fiancée, Enzo. Fake."

"Fine, fake fiancée," he said, waving off the correction. "But still. After everything I’ve done to protect you, can’t you just help me this one time?"

Her hand lingered on the door handle as his words sank in, her gaze softening just slightly. After a moment of contemplation, she conceded, sighing heavily as she closed the door.

"Fine, but after this, I don’t owe you anything. This cancels out everything you’ve done for me. Got it?"

Enzo scoffed playfully, waving a dismissive hand. "It doesn’t even come close, but sure."

Walking up to the bed, she grabbed the black shirt the maid had left, unfolding it with a quick snap. She stepped in front of him, holding the shirt open and motioning her chin. "Spread your arms."

Enzo obeyed, raising his arms just enough to avoid straining the bandages.

When she pulled the sleeves over his arms, her fingers made contact with his skin, causing her to momentarily hesitate, her touch lingering for half a second. She then resumed, the soft brush of her fingertips against his flesh stirring a faint, odd sensation within her. Something she had never felt before.

Once both arms were through, she adjusted the fabric, smoothing it over his shoulders before moving to fix the collar.

Enzo’s gaze never left her. His head tilted slightly upward, his blue eyes wide and focused, but this time there was no smirk, no teasing grin. He looked... mesmerized.

Adeline caught the intensity of his stare and halted her actions, one hand holding the shirt’s collar while the other reached up to rest atop his head. She applied just enough pressure to push it downward, forcing his gaze away.

"I already told you to stop staring at me. It’s creepy, and you look stupid."
