Enzo turned, carrying Adeline out of the kitchen, and as soon as the doors swung shut behind them, the head chef exhaled tiredly. "What an odd pair," she murmured, shaking her head. Then, she turned to the cooks, clapping her hands and snapping them back into focus. "Alright, back to work! The breakfast won’t make itself!"

The door to their room swung open, and Enzo stepped inside, carrying Adeline, who still remained limp in his arms. With a soft click, he nudged the door shut behind him with his foot, crossing the room in a few strides. Reaching the edge of the bed, he carefully set her down on the mattress, but the moment her body touched the sheets, she let out a long, weary sigh and buried her face in her palms.

A smirk tugged at Enzo’s lips as he settled beside her, his hand reaching out to gently tug at her cheek in an attempt to get her attention.

She swatted at him halfheartedly but eventually lifted her head, giving him a flat, unimpressed look.

"You’re so dramatic," he teased, amusement dancing in his lovely blue eyes.

"Asshole," she muttered before flopping backward onto the mattress.

Enzo chuckled softly, letting himself fall onto his back beside her. Reaching out, his strong hands snaked around her waist, and with little effort, he lifted her onto his chest, positioning her so her head rested against him.

He stroked a hand down her back, attempting to soothe her mood. "It’s just food, you know. Blood is better anyway."

"You don’t get it. I won’t be able to eat any of my favorite foods anymore. Can you even imagine that?" She gestured wildly before leaning forward, her hands pressing against his broad chest as her voice dropped to a low, threatening tone. "Imagine if one day, you suddenly couldn’t drink blood anymore—only human food. No more fresh, warm, satisfying blood. Just bland, lifeless human meals."

Enzo hummed, rubbing his chin as he thought about it. He supposed it would be a terrible adjustment—blood had been his and every other vampire’s only sustenance. The idea of replacing it with something else, something lacking in what his body craved, was unsettling.

"I’d probably be devastated," he admitted, then shrugged. "But what other choice would I have? As long as I don’t die, then I’d probably get used to eating human food—"

"Lies!" Adeline cut him off, narrowing her eyes. "No, you wouldn’t get used to it."

Enzo exhaled a laugh, tapping his ring finger against his chest as he searched for a way to shift her focus from her food-related grief. His gaze flickered to the window. At first, he considered suggesting they go out, maybe visit someplace entertaining.

But going out wouldn’t really help—if they ended up in a café, a restaurant, or even passing by a street vendor, she’d inevitably be reminded of what she had lost.

Adeline, still seated on him, watched curiously as he sank deeper into thought. Just as she was about to call him out on it, he suddenly snapped his fingers, the idea forming in his mind like a spark.

He abruptly shot up to a seated position, forcing Adeline to straddle his hips so she wouldn’t fall off.

She let out a startled noise, her hands flying up to his shoulders for balance. "Enzo..."

He grinned, cupping her cheeks with both hands, his thumbs brushing along her cheekbones. "How about we check out your enhanced abilities?"

"Huh? Enhanced Abilities?"

His hands moved, sliding down to her waist and lifting her as he rose to his feet before placing her down in front of him. "You know, since you’re a vampire now, you’ve got enhanced strength, speed, all of that."

As he had hoped, her frustration over food instantly vanished, replaced by a spark of curiosity and intrigue. Her lips parted slightly, a soft gasp escaping as her eyes widened. "Wait... really?" she asked, excitement creeping into her voice.

Enzo nodded. "Of course. Do you want to test them out?"

"Do I?" She snorted. "Of course, I do!"

"Very well," he said, placing a hand on the small of her back and gently nudging her forward. "Let’s get ready, then."

As the sun finally crested fully over the horizon, its warm golden light poured across the grounds of the mansion. Adeline and Enzo walked side by side, their footsteps soft against the cobbled path that led toward the estate’s garden. Andrei trailed silently behind them like a shadow, as always dressed in a black suit, not a single crease or thread out of place.

Adeline wore black leggings, a snug-fitting black t-shirt, and matching sneakers, her blonde hair pulled up into a high ponytail that bounced lightly with each step. Beside her, Enzo had opted for black double-layered running shorts and a black tank top that clung to his lean but powerful frame, and his hair, as usual, was tied back into a messy bun.

They reached a wide stretch of open grass deep in the garden—a long, flat clearing with no flowers, no statues, nothing breakable in sight. A few trees bordered the area, their leaves rustling gently in the breeze. It was the perfect place for what they had come here to do.

As the three of them came to a halt, Andrei gave Enzo a small, respectful bow of his head, silently awaiting instructions or orders.

Adeline, meanwhile, couldn’t contain her excitement. Her eyes darted eagerly around the open space like a kid in a candy store, drinking in every inch of it. She snapped her head towards Enzo with a grin. "So, what do we do first?"

"Hmm..." Enzo hummed in thought. There were so many vampire abilities she could try, but he wanted to start simple. "How about we start with the basics, hm?"

She turned fully to face him now, brows lifted in interest. "What are the basics?"

Enzo lifted both hands, his right index finger tapping against the fingers on his left hand one by one, counting off as he spoke. "Strength. Speed. Agility. Heightened senses. Reflexes. That sort of thing."
