The front door swung open again, and a taller man stepped out onto the porch behind the lady. He had a buzzcut, his shoulders broad and his skin tan. His presence was a bit intimidating but softened by the casual smile he gave.

Adeline and Enzo took a step back to give them space as the couple moved to the edge of the porch.

The woman, her face soft with a welcoming smile, asked politely, "Is there something we can help you with, my dear?"

Adeline nodded, her hands clenched tightly as she tried not to sound desperate. "We’re looking for a woman named Miranda. We were told she lives here."

At the mention of Miranda’s name, the woman exchanged a look with her husband, followed by a simultaneous, synchronized shake of their heads.

"Miranda moved out almost two weeks ago. We moved in right after she left," the man explained.

A low, resigned sigh escaped her lips as she facepalmed. "Of course she did," she muttered, dragging her hands down her face.

Beside her, Enzo chuckled, scratching the back of his neck. "Do you, uh... happen to know where she moved to?"

The couple glanced at each other again before shaking their heads, looking genuinely apologetic. "We did chat with her, but she didn’t say anything about where she was moving. Sorry."

Adeline had heard enough. She pivoted her attention to Enzo, her face now devoid of emotion as she gave his arm a gentle pat. "The keys."

Enzo blinked, confused by her sudden request. "What?"

"The car keys," Adeline repeated, holding out her hand expectantly.

Still puzzled, Enzo reached into his pocket and pulled out the car keys, handing them over to her.

Without another word, Adeline spun on her heel and marched toward the car. She clicked the unlock button, and the lights flashed in response. She climbed into the driver’s seat, shutting the door a little harder than necessary, and for a brief moment, everything was quiet.

The couple and Enzo watched her curiously from the porch. Suddenly, the car horn blared loudly, startling everyone except Enzo.

He squinted towards the windshield, trying to figure out what she was doing. He leaned forward slightly and realized that Adeline had slammed her forehead down on the steering wheel. Her muffled voice could be heard faintly through the glass as she yelled at no one in particular.

Finally, Adeline lifted her head, only to slam it back down again and again, setting off the horn continuously. The sound echoed through the quiet neighborhood, drawing attention from the passersby.

The woman flinched, stepping closer to her husband, who put an arm around her. "Is she... okay?" she asked, turning her concerned gaze to Enzo.

Enzo waved her off, biting back a laugh. "Don’t worry. She’s fine," he assured her. "She’s just... letting off some steam."

The man chuckled, squeezing his wife’s arm lightly to get her attention. "I get it. At some point, you just have to let it out. My sugarplum right here is like that too."

His wife looked up at him and rolled her eyes, nudging him playfully. "No, I’m not," she muttered before turning her attention back to Enzo. "We’re going to head back inside. Good luck finding Miranda."

"Thank you," Enzo said with a polite bow of his head.

He watched as the couple disappeared back inside the house before descending the porch steps and heading towards the car. He stooped closer to the passenger window and tapped the tip of his index and middle fingers on the glass to capture Adeline’s attention.

Her head snapped up, her blonde hair cascading down across her face as she shot him a sharp glare through the glass. He responded by simply pointing to the lock, and with an exasperated sigh, she pressed the button, causing the locks to disengage.

Enzo slipped into the vehicle, settling comfortably into the seat before closing the door and swiveling his head towards her. "Feel better now?"

Adeline groaned, slamming her fists against the steering wheel. "No! This is the third place we’ve been to, and nothing!" She leaned back in her seat, running her hands through her hair. "Seriously, how does someone move three times in one month?"

"Maybe she’s a nomad. Loves the thrill of a new place." Enzo said, shrugging nonchalantly. He reached forward to press the power button on the car’s radio, and soft classical music filtered through the speakers. He hummed along as he grabbed his seatbelt.

"We’ve wasted the whole morning for nothing. It’s already noon!" She said as she reached for the ignition, twisting the key aggressively and starting the car. "I give up. I’m going home."

Enzo tried to buckle his seatbelt, but before he could, Adeline pressed her foot on the gas, and the car jolted backward with an alarming speed, throwing Enzo forward in his seat.

He braced himself with one hand on the dashboard, his head snapping toward her. "Adeline! Slow d—"

But she didn’t slow down. She shifted gears, twisted the wheel, and the car lurched forward, speeding down the driveway and onto the road.

"Adeline, are you trying to get us killed?!" Enzo barked, finally managing to buckle his seatbelt.

Adeline kept her eyes on the road, raising one hand while the other gripped the wheel. "Silence!"

Enzo stared at her for a few seconds, lost for words, before leaning back in his seat. "Oh well... at least we die together."

Adeline trudged through the mansion’s hallway, her shoulders slumped lazily as exhaustion seeped into every step. The search for Miranda had already drained her. Her head was slightly tilted down, and the desire for the comfort of her bed was written all over her face.

Behind her, Enzo walked with a more relaxed demeanor. His fingers reached up to the roughly tied bun holding his hair together and tugged off the band, letting his hair fall loosely to his neck.

Just as Adeline was about to turn the corner, a voice came from behind them.

"Boss."

Adeline nearly jumped out of her skin, her heart skipping a beat as she whirled around.

Standing a few feet behind Enzo was Andrei, his head bowed in respect.
