Third Person’s POV

The morning sun was already pushing through the curtains. It was past 7 when Kaye stepped into the room. He stopped and looked at the mess on the floor. First, he went to his own bed. He ran his hand over the sheets. It was neat, but not the way he usually did it. Someone had touched his things. He wasn’t fully happy about that, but he had bigger things to worry about.

He turned around and stayed still. His eyes went wide as he looked at Faye’s bed.

There was his Aunt Faye, fast asleep. And right there, curled up next to her, was Princess Kings. They were tangled together under the blankets. Luckily, the covers were pulled up high enough to keep things decent. Kaye just stood there in total shock. His face was a blank mask. He didn’t move a muscle.

"Kaye! Are you getting ready for school yet?" Eriko’s voice boomed from the hallway. "It’s almost 8. I have to drive you and Faye both, so move it!"

They had only just gotten back from the camping trip. Eriko was already busy in the kitchen. The sound of a pan hitting the stove echoed into the room.

"I’m getting ready!" Kaye yelled back. He shouted loud enough that the vibration seemed to stir Princess.

"Is Faye even awake?" Eriko called out again. "She better be. She has some explaining to do about why my toaster is broken!"

From the living room, Paye’s voice joined in. "Faye, why is there a Porsche parked outside?"

Princess slowly peeled her eyes open. The first thing she saw was Kaye standing at the foot of the bed, watching her like a hawk.

"Are you going to marry my aunty?" Kaye whispered. He kept his voice tiny. He didn’t want the adults in the other rooms to hear a single word.

"What?" Princess muttered. She blinked against the light. She looked around the messy room before she realized Faye was still sound asleep, using her as a teddy pillow.

"You have to whisper," Kaye hissed. He looked toward the door with wide eyes. "My Nanna is right in the living room. If he walks in here and sees you with Faye, he might actually die. His heart will just stop."

"Oh... you guys are back early," Princess said. She tried to sit up a little without waking the sleeping girl attached to her arm.

"Yes. We were supposed to stay until the afternoon," Kaye explained. He was still whispering urgently. "But school starts today. Eriko didn’t want me or Dina to miss a single class. Alpha Leo called him a careless person for it. Then Eriko called Alpha Leo a derelict father. They kept arguing until we had no choice. We had to pack up and come back early."

Princess rubbed her eyes. "Where is Dina?"

"She’s in the bathroom right now taking a shower," Kaye said.

Princess nodded. She tried to shake the sleep out of her head, but Kaye wasn’t finished with her yet.

"You didn’t answer me," he said.

"Answer what?"

"Are you going to marry my aunty?" Kaye asked again. He leaned in closer.

"Why are you asking me that right now?" Princess asked, a bit confused.

"Because only married people sleep like that," Kaye said. He looked at them with a very serious face. "And you two are expecting babies. That’s how it works."

Princess felt a laugh bubble up in her chest, but she kept it quiet. "Well, that’s true. And I would really love to marry your aunty. I actually already asked her once."

Kaye’s eyes went even wider. "You did?"

"Yes," Princess said. she let her shoulders slump a little. "But she rejected me. She said I wasn’t on her list."

Kaye puffed out his small chest. He looked very proud of himself. "Well, don’t be sad about it. I am the second Grande male of this house. I accept your proposal for her. You can marry my aunty. You don’t even need her permission if I say it’s okay."

Princess stared at the little boy. A smile broke across her face. "That’s not really how it works, Kaye. I still need her to be the one to say yes."

"That’s why I’m saying it for her!" Kaye insisted. He started waving his hands around as he talked. "My aunty doesn’t know how to make her own decisions. Nanna or Guru always has to make them for her anyway. Listen, I can help you. She hates pineapple on pizza. She loves watching Yuki all the time. She has a lot of guys who are her besties, but Guru is the main one. They used to break so many rules back in Redwood together...."

Kaye just kept going. He was rambling now, listing off every secret he knew.

When he mentioned Yuki, Princess felt her smile get a bit stiff. She didn’t like the sound of that, but she kept listening to the boy.

"That is a lot of information to take in," Princess said. "But I still need her to approve of me. Your vote doesn’t count as much as hers."

"Okay, then here is a tip," Kaye said. He looked like a professional giving advice. "If you want Faye to really like you, you have to be nice. Always make her happy. And you have to buy her popsicles. Nanna always buys her those when she starts crying. And whatever you do, never ever tear any of her Yuki posters."

"Yuki posters?" Princess asked.

"Yes! One time back in Redwood, I accidentally tore one. She was so mad she didn’t eat for two whole days. Not until she got a brand new one to put on the wall."

"Oh. I see," Princess muttered. She made a mental note of that.

"Alpha Princess," Kaye said, his voice getting even softer. "My aunty can be really annoying sometimes. I know that. But she is a good person deep down. Please don’t be the one to make her cry."

Princess looked at the boy’s serious face. "I can’t promise I’ll never upset her, but I promise I’ll try my best."

"Pinky promise." Kaye held out his small finger.

Princess chuckled. "You definitely learned that one from Dina." She reached out and hooked her pinky with his.

"Good," Kaye declared. He stood up straight like a tiny superhero protecting his home. "Because if you make her cry, you have to face the wrath of her favorite nephew. And that’s me."

Princess laughed quietly. The kid was a lot to handle. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Suddenly, Eriko appeared in the doorway. He was still holding a greasy spatula in one hand. He looked into the room and his eyes nearly popped out of his head. He looked back toward the living room nervously. He wanted to make sure Paye wasn’t right behind him. He didn’t even look surprised that Princess was in the bed. He just looked terrified of what would happen if the others saw.

"What are you still doing here, Princess?" Eriko whispered loudly.

"Hi, Riko," Princess waved. She looked perfectly happy to be there.

"Princess, listen to me," Eriko hissed. He pointed toward the window. "I need you to crawl out of that window right now. Before anyone else...."

Faye started to move. She groaned and stretched her arms out wide. Her hand accidentally smacked right into Princess’s face. That woke her up for real. Her eyes snapped open and she saw Eriko and her nephew standing there.

"When the fuck did you guys get back?!" she yelled. She sat bolt upright.

"Is Faye just waking up now? It’s almost 8 o’clock!" Paye’s voice came from right behind Eriko.

Paye walked into the room to see what the fuss was about. He took two steps inside and then he froze.

The air left the room. It went completely silent. No one breathed. No one moved. Everyone just watched Paye.

Paye stood there and stared at his little sister sitting in bed next to Princess Kings. He blinked once. Then he blinked again. He looked like his brain was trying to download a file that was way too big.

He didn’t say a word. He didn’t scream. He didn’t get angry. He just slowly turned around. He walked back out into the living room with heavy, measured steps.

For a second, they all stood there in the silence. They thought maybe it was okay. Maybe he was just going to ignore it.

Then they heard it.

THUD.

The sound of a grown man hitting the floor echoed through the whole house.
