Thanks to the Sasha girl, I wasn’t done, then the bell rang. The sound cut through the bathroom like a knife. Loud. Final. Princess pulled away first. She looked serious when it comes to school things. Studying meant more to her.

I was still catching my breath when she stepped back. Just like that. The moment was over.

I put on the jumpsuit given to me and went to class.

The fabric still felt strange on my skin. Too loose in some places, tight in others. I adjusted it while walking down the hallway, trying not to think about what had just happened. My legs still felt weak. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

I tried my best to control my hearing but I couldn’t. I still don’t know how I managed the whole time.

Voices still everywhere.

I kept pressing my fingers against them, hoping it would somehow quiet things down. It didn’t.

Princess wasn’t in the classroom throughout. Her seat stayed empty. Just like last week.

A few people noticed. Some whispered about it. Others kept glancing toward me like I had the answer. I ignored them. Or at least I tried to.

During lunchtime I tried to find Malo but there was no sign of him at all. The cafeteria was packed. Chairs scraping the floor. Plates clattering. Conversations overlapping. Too much noise.

Maybe he didn’t come to school today, I guess. I checked the usual table. Nothing. Then the courtyard. Still nothing.

I rubbed my temple slowly. My head was starting to ache.

I went to the school nurse to get new earbuds. The hallway leading there was quieter. Only a few students passed by. For a moment the silence felt like relief. I pushed the door open.

And I found Malo there instead of the nurse.

"Malo."

He was sitting at the desk. He was on his phone. When I called him, he looked up.

"Hey Freshwolf, wassup. How are you doing?" he said with a lightened expression.

"How are you doing, Malo?"

"Great, super great.." he said, returning back to his phone.

His thumb kept scrolling across the screen.

"Em, I heard what happened. I wanted to know if you’re okay."

"Of course I am fine, doing fucking good..."

He said it like it was nothing. But his voice had a tight edge to it.

He kept staring at his phone. Just when I thought he was done, he continued.

"You get it? I was thrown out of Lunny’s club, fired, beaten up like some crack shit, all because I supported someone to take an abortion. Hahaha. I’m fine."

That laugh sounded fake to my ears. Too sharp and forced.

"I’m sorry about involving you in..."

"No, no. There is nothing for you to be sorry about."

He waved his hand like he was brushing the words away.

"At least you didn’t get an abortion, because I would have been dead... but next time if you get pregnant and want an abortion, do make sure to tell me who knocked you up so I get to be in a fucking mess... or maybe don’t ask for my help..."

"Dude, I said I am sorry okay..."

The moment I said that, he brought his phone down on the table.

The sound echoed slightly in the quiet room. Now he was looking at me. Fully.

"Sorry? Your fucking sorry is never going to give me back my job. I have been working for years for that Alpha. I have been loyal to the core and because of you I lost my job."

His jaw tightened.

"Instead of a promotion... In one fucking night. And now some stupid purple hair bitch is in my place..."

He stared at me for a second longer. Then he picked up his phone again like the conversation meant nothing.

Wow. This was the first time I had seen him this angry.

Even when I beat him up he did not react like this.

Working for Princess must have meant something to him.

How was I supposed to know he was going to get affected by my actions?

"Come on. See, I didn’t even get the abortion and I am still in school, which I am surprised about because I haven’t heard anything about being expelled.."

"Who would dare to expel the Alpha princess’ soon to be baby mama?"

"Baby mama? I am no baby mama," I shot back because I felt offended.

"Then what are you to Princess? You two are not dating, but you happen to be pregnant for her. Baby mama," he said.

"Fuck you."

I raised my middle finger at his face.

"So what are you doing here?"

"Can’t you see? Working."

"Working?" I said, giving him a face so he could understand.

"Look, I lost my job and I need money. The nurse is always busy in the other building because two kids frustrated the other nurse and she ended up quitting. So now I’m here as an assistant."

"So you are a nurse now?"

"Yes. I have experience."

"In narcotics shit. You distribute drugs as... experience," I stated.

"At least I was getting paid for that. The money was good compared to this one, but I have no choice. Money has to be made."

He looked me in the eye like he could laser my eyes.

"How the fuck do you get paid for distributing drugs for free?" I had to ask because I had never seen him collect money from anyone.

"By Princess, who gets paid by Leo when she completes her target."

"Princess works for Leo, as in her brother?"

"Who wouldn’t work for Leo? He is fucking rich."

"Wow. I thought Princess was someone born with a silver spoon who doesn’t have to work all her life because she was... born rich."

"The Alphas are born rich, but their grandfather makes them work to earn a living for themselves."

He leaned back slightly in the chair.

"Princess works for Leo to earn. Everything she owns she worked for it. And I work for Princess. Her success is my success."

He paused for a second.

"She was going to get a promotion on Friday."

Silence filled the room for a moment.

"She was given a task to do and I screwed up because I tried to kill her pups. She left the task to find you."

Fuck. I didn’t know she was like that. I thought she was some spoiled brat who showed off with her family money.

"Student, you have been here for long. Why are you in the nurse’s office? Because I don’t have any abortion pills to give," Malo said.

"I am not here for abortion pills. I need earbuds," I said.

He opened the drawer with a key and brought out earbuds, giving me a pair.

"What do you need that for anyway? Because that is meant for those who shifted for the first time," he asked.

"I got super hearing now and they are fucking me up."

"Huh, good for you. You are not supposed to be using those ones."

He struggled to stand up and finally did.

He was holding a forearm crutch to support his walking.

I watched him walk to a cupboard. Slow steps. Careful steps.

He opened it and brought out a small box.

"Here. Use this one instead. It will control your hearing," he said.

But my mind was on his leg.

"What the fuck happened to your leg?"

"Beam happened. She beat me up then trashed me outside."

"That’s fucking sick."

"From the girl who started the beating... put these buds on."

I opened the box. It was earbuds. Not the foamy one. It looked advanced.

I put them in my ears.

Nothing happened.

"I am still hearing voices. It’s not working."

"Will you chill first..." he said, going back to his desk to get his phone.

"That is an ultra pro earbud. It has to be connected to bluetooth for it to work properly."

He turned on bluetooth on his phone and connected it.

The moment it connected, I heard a beep sound. He showed me the demonstration using his phone.

He increased the volume to 50% and my hearing was normal.

Then he put it back to 0 and I could hear voices again.

Then when he put it to 100%, everything became completely silent.

No sound. Nothing at all.

I saw his mouth moving in front of my face saying different words.

I didn’t know what he was saying, but I had a feeling he was cursing at me.

I just couldn’t prove it.

Then he reduced it to 50 percent and everything went back to normal.

"Wow, that felt nice," he said.

"What were you saying?"

"Did you hear anything? That was the point."

"Limping boy," I muttered to him.

Then a voice from the speaker spoke.

"Faye Grande, please report to the principal’s office. Faye Grande, please report to the principal’s office."

What the fuck does the principal want now.
