The living room was bright, almost blindingly so. The walls were made entirely of glass, revealing the tropical outdoors in every direction. Outside, the beach stretched out in full view, the white sand meeting the turquoise water under a sun that felt too cheerful for what was happening. It felt like a vacation spot, but the air inside was thick with a tension that hadn’t let up for a second.

The group sat around the large dining table. Some were eating quietly, while Beam was hunched over her tablet, her fingers moving in a blur. They were in the middle of discussing their next move, their voices low and urgent.

"Everyone, look who’s finally awake..." Haley announced from the doorway.

Immediately, the conversation died. All eyes turned toward them. Princess stood there beside Haley, looking pale but steady. She walked into the room with a heavy, deliberate pace.

Beam didn’t say a word; she just quickly got up from her spot and offered her seat at the head of the table. Princess sat down without thanking her. MG appeared a moment later and brought her a glass of water, setting it down carefully. Kiara served her a plate of food, but Princess didn’t touch any of it. She didn’t even look at the plate. She just sat there and stared at the people gathered around her, Sasha, MG, Kiara, Beam, and Haley. They were all she had left.

"What about your guardians? Won’t they be looking for you all?" Princess asked. Her voice was cold and raspy, the sound of someone who hadn’t spoken in days.

"I told my sister I was going camping with my girlfriend," Sasha said, forced a small smile at Haley. "She didn’t ask questions. She just told me to make sure I’m back before school resumes."

"My mom knows where I am. As long as she knows I’m safe and with friends, that’s all that matters to her," Kiara added, nodding toward the table.

Princess turned her head to look at Beam, who was standing right beside her chair like a bodyguard.

"My dad doesn’t really keep track of us. He’s too busy with work. Don’t worry about us, Princess. I’m with you on this. I told you before.. my life is yours. We’re going to find Faye," Beam said firmly.

"We better... because my mind is going crazy right now, and my wrists aren’t healing worth a damn."

The voice came from the direction of the kitchen. It was sharp and full of irritation.

Princess turned in her seat.

Peamah Frost, Beam’s brother, was sitting on the kitchen counter, eating his own food there. He was supposed to be in jail, locked away after the whole killing thing. His wrists were wrapped in thick white bandages, but the sight was gruesome. Fresh blood was already seeping through the layers of cloth, staining them a dark, rusty red.

"What is he doing here?" Princess asked, her eyes narrowing.

"My parents won’t care if I’m missing," MG said quickly, stepping forward to try and cover for the sudden tension. "And Faye is my best friend. We’re going to find her, no matter who we have to bring along."

MG shot Peamah a hard look, silently telling him to shut his mouth and stay quiet.

But Beam spoke up anyway, her voice dropping to a serious tone.

"It turns out Peamah has some kind of weird connection with Faye. I didn’t believe it at first when he told me she was calling out to him in his head. I thought he was just making up stories to get out of the center. But then his wrists, these cuts just appeared out of nowhere. No one touched him. He was in a cell by himself. He just started bleeding, and it hasn’t stopped since. This isn’t even the first time it’s happened."

"So what does his bleeding wrists have to do with my girl being missing?" Princess asked. She sounded skeptical, her patience wearing thin.

"Whatever is happening to your so called girlfriend right now... I’m feeling it too," Peamah said, hopping off the counter. He walked into the living room, his face looking tired and drawn.

"And your girlfriend is being tortured."

In an instant, Princess was out of her chair. She moved so fast the others barely saw her. Before anyone could blink, she was right in front of him.

She grabbed his arm with a grip like iron and began to unwrap the wet bandage.

Her eyes locked onto his wrist as the cloth fell away.

It wasn’t just a single accidental cut or a scratch. The skin was ruined. It was slit over and over again in neat, horizontal lines, like a repetitive motion of a blade.

Princess said nothing.

Since she had woken up, her face had been completely unreadable, a mask of stone. But now, as she stared at the blood on his arm, a flicker of something passed through her eyes. The thought of Faye in that kind of pain crept into her mind. It wasn’t just a possibility anymore; it was a physical reality standing right in front of her. The thought stayed there, burning.

"But it’s not confirmed," Sasha said quickly. She stood up, her hands waving as if she could brush the tension out of the room. "I’m not feeling anything at all. I don’t hear her voice, I don’t get any visions, nothing. This doesn’t actually prove Faye is being tortured. It could be something else."

"So you’re saying I’m lying about this?" Peamah snapped, pulling his arm back from Princess. "Why would I do this to myself? I’m not crazy. And even if I did do it, explain why the wounds aren’t healing. We’re wolves. This should have closed up, it has been weeks."

"This still doesn’t prove anything for sure," Sasha insisted, her voice getting higher. "I should be able to feel something. I don’t feel Faye’s presence at all."

"Princess doesn’t feel her either," Kiara pointed out quietly. "It’s obvious why. Yuki cloaked her. Yuki has never seen Peamah so... he might be saying the truth...?"

"That’s impossible, he didn’t even get her location right...." Sasha muttered, looking down at the floor.

"Come on," MG cut in, his voice loud enough to stop the bickering. "We’re dealing with a were-witch here. Let’s just stick to the plan instead of arguing about what’s possible or impossible."

A heavy silence fell over the room. The only sound was the distant crashing of the waves against the shore outside.

All eyes turned to Beam.

Her plan was simple, at least on paper. They needed a lead. They were going to track down Suzy, Yuki’s personal assistant. She was the one who handled Yuki’s schedule and life outside the ring. If anyone knew where Yuki was hiding Faye it was her. They were going to find her and interrogate her until she talked.

Kiara and Beam were originally supposed to go alone to keep a low profile.

But Princess stood up, her jaw set. She insisted on coming with them.

And no one argued. They saw the look in her eyes. They knew she wasn’t in the right state of mind to be told no. She was vibrating with a silent, dangerous energy. She hadn’t taken her medication in weeks, and the Alpha inside her was beginning to claw its way to the surface, looking for someone to rip.
