My first instinct moved fast. I dashed so quickly that the beast couldn’t reach me, only managing to scratch my shoulder.

Fuck, that hurts way more than the time I scraped my knees during a one on one spare time with Guru. This scratch burns. It burns deep, like something is spreading under my skin. Not just a normal wound. Not just claws. It feels like fire sliding through my veins, and I hate that my body is reacting to it. I grit my teeth and force myself not to scream.

The hedge-wolf was frustrated that he missed. He growled, his dark eyes looking at me. My body shook and it was fucking freezing. I’m cold. Not normal cold. The kind of cold that starts from the inside and spreads out. I couldn’t wait for it to kill me. I couldn’t just stand there and accept it. If I can move that fast, maybe I could run as fast as I can and find some shelter. Because fighting this beast is totally useless. My strength against it is not worth it. Not even a bit. An omega like me is no match for a ruthless hedge-wolf. So it’s best I use my strength for running instead. That is the only thing I have. Speed. Instinct. Survival.

I ran as fast as I could. My speed had increased but it did not stop the beast from chasing after every step. It was faster, but I ran. Even if I could not feel my legs, I still ran. My lungs burned. My chest tightened. The sound of its claws scraping against the road behind me kept getting closer. I did not look back. I did not want to see how close it was. I just ran.

I was in the middle of the lonely desert road when my knees collapsed to the ground on their own. My legs could not move. They felt numb. Dead weight. I cursed at my legs, wondering why I couldn’t move. I punched the ground once in frustration, but that did nothing. My body betrayed me at the worst time.

I kept breathing heavily, looking at the beast racing towards me. Am I being punished by the Moon Goddess for trying to kill the pup? Is she angry at me for trying to take a life? Tears ran down from my eyes. I deserve it. Maybe I do. I almost drank it. I almost ended everything because I was scared. Because I was selfish. Because I thought I was not ready.

"I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Please, Moon Goddess, please, spare my life just this once. I don’t want to die. Please, I don’t want to die. I promise I will keep this pup safe from any harm. Please, just this once. Please save me from this beast," I cried out, staring at the sky. Even if the moon wasn’t there, I know she could hear me. She always does. She always listens. I have been devoted to her all my life. I prayed every night. I thanked her for every small blessing. She always listens. She listened when I prayed for a savior for my brother and she sent us Guru. She gave us hope when we had nothing. She cannot ignore me now. Not when I am begging like this.

I closed my eyes, praying for a savior to come to my rescue. I heard the growling beast’s voice in front of me. Closer now. Heavy paws hitting the ground. The air shifted. My heart pounded so hard it hurt.

Then I heard tires speeding toward me at full speed.

I looked to my side. A car was approaching fast. The headlights were so bright that they hurt my eyes. I covered them with my arm. For a second I thought I was hallucinating. Maybe this is what dying feels like. A bright light. A final flash.

In a second, the car smashed into the beast. The impact was loud. Metal against flesh. The beast got knocked back by the force and slammed, drifting on the ground. Dust and blood mixed. It wasn’t out, but it was wounded. It slowly stood up, now growling at the car. Its body looked twisted for a moment, then it straightened like nothing happened.

The headlights became brighter, affecting the beast’s eyes, and the car sped forward again and hit the beast. Harder. More aggressive. The sound of the hit echoed. The car wasn’t done. It waited for the beast to stand and hit it again. No hesitation. No fear. It repeated this until the beast was weak and on the ground. It could not stand up anymore. Its growls turned into low, broken sounds.

I watched as it lay on the road, defeated and weak. I could smell its blood. It smelled strange and foreign, not the same as normal blood. Thicker. Sour. Wrong.

The car engine was still on when the door opened. The door lifted up and someone stepped out. The sound of heels walked up to the beast. Calm. Controlled. Not rushed.

With all the bloody smell, that person’s scent was stronger and familiar. I already knew it was her without looking at her face. I would know that scent anywhere. Even in a crowd. Even in school.

I watched as Princess bent to the level of the hedge-wolf. No fear in her posture. No hesitation. The sound of her claws going sharp went straight into the beast’s chest and she ripped out his heart. Quick. Clean. Brutal. That was the only way to kill a hedge-wolf, by ripping out their heart. She dropped the heart and stood up like it meant nothing.

Her heels walked toward me. Slow. Measured. My legs were still paralyzed. I couldn’t move an inch. I didn’t even try. Princess was now in front of me. She bent down to my level. I looked at her bloody hand, then her face. Her eyes were glowing blue and I don’t think they were smiling. There was no softness in them. No warmth or playful eyes. Just something cold and dangerous.

There was a bit of silence between us. Heavy silence. The kind that presses on your chest. She used her bloody hand to raise my chin so I could look at her face. Her grip was firm. Not gentle.

"I have two questions for you omega. If both answers are yes, I will fucking rip your heart out." Her voice was not kind the way it used to sound. It was low. Controlled. Angry.

"Were you trying to kill my pups?"
