I tried to keep my voice from shaking. I wanted to sound logical, like I was just pointing out a simple mistake, but my heart was hammering against my ribs.

"We are still trying to figure out why your hair turned out brown instead of the traditional silver," Helen said, her eyes scanning me like I was a specimen under a microscope. "But make no mistake, you are definitely the Moon Wolf. The blood doesn’t lie, Faye."

"What the fuck is a Moon Wolf anyway? I’m starting to think you’re the were-witch Yuki wanted me to meet. This whole thing is crazy," I snapped.

Helen didn’t seem bothered by my language. She just adjusted her position on the couch. "That night in the shop, you gave me your blood. I used it on my son, and the results were immediate. His wounds, injuries that had plagued him for years, began to heal in a way I couldn’t explain. I knew your blood was rare the moment I saw him heal , but I didn’t know exactly what it was. Not until I spoke to Yuki. She was the one who told me about the legend of the Moon Wolf. I needed more blood to finish the treatment, and she agreed to bring you to me. And now, here you are, exactly where you need to be."

I watched her as she spoke, and the realization hit me like a physical blow to the stomach.

So it all made sense now. That fan dinner we had. That date at the fancy restaurant. Yuki bringing me all the way to the Free City, acting like she was my friend and saying she wanted to take me somewhere. It was all a setup.

If Princess hadn’t shown up that night to drag me away, Yuki’s plan would have worked perfectly back then.

But how did Yuki even know about the Moon Wolf? She was an MMA fighter, not some scholar. And then another thought crawled into my mind, making my skin turn cold.

Was she the one who made that waiter try to stab me that night? Was that part of the plan too?

"That waiter at the restaurant... the one with the knife... was it Yuki who told him to try and kill me, asking for my blood?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper.

"Obviously not," Helen said, waving a hand dismissively. "When that initial plan to get you here failed because of your Alpha’s interference, I had to take matters into my own hands. I hexed someone who had already seen you, someone easy to manipulate. I needed your blood, Faye. That was the only goal."

"If you needed my blood so badly, you could have just asked me for it! That’s not a crime, right? I gave you my blood in the shop because I wanted to repay your kindness for paying for the wolfbane potion," I said, and my voice started to harden as the fear turned into pure, hot rage. "That man almost stabbed me right in the stomach. My pups could have been seriously hurt or killed because of your stupid blood hunt."

I wasn’t calm anymore. The dizziness was still there, but the adrenaline was pushing through it.

I was angry. More than angry.

I hated being here in this silent mansion with a witch who looked calm enough to be dangerous.

She actually smiled at me, a small, patronizing tilt of her lips.

"It’s good to see you want to keep them alive now. The last time I saw you in that shop, you were looking for a way to kill them," she said softly, her voice like silk. "Faye, Moon Wolf or not, your blood is the only thing helping my son heal. I am just a mother who wants her son to live a long, healthy life. You of all people should understand that instinct."

"You’re a bad person. You can call it whatever you want, but this is kidnapping. Plain and simple. Do you really think you’ll get away with this?...."

Before she could even respond to that, the heavy front door swung open.

We both turned our heads toward the sound.

Yuki walked in, looking completely unbothered. She was holding a brown paper bag, and I noticed something different about her immediately. Her hair was red now, It made me wonder how long I have been unconscious...

"Oh... the sleeping beauty is finally awake," she said casually. She didn’t even look guilty. She just approached us like she was coming home from a grocery run.

A middle-aged woman appeared from somewhere in the back of the house, moving like a shadow. I hadn’t even noticed her being there before. Yuki handed her the paper bag without a word.

"Put this in the kitchen," she ordered.

The woman just nodded and left as quickly as she had appeared.

As Yuki got closer to where I was standing, my anger flared up until I felt like I was going to explode.

I had trusted her so much.

I had defended her against everyone. Even when Princess warned me that something felt off about her, I didn’t listen. I told Princess she was overthinking things, that she was just being a jealous, overprotective Alpha. I felt like such an idiot.

Princess was right the whole time. Every single word she said about Yuki was right.

And I was wrong. Dead wrong.

I stood up from the couch, forcing all the strength I had left into my shaky legs. I didn’t say a word. I just clenched my left fist and swung as hard as I could at her face.

Yuki didn’t even break a sweat. She dodged my punch easily, leaning back just enough for my fist to whistle through the air.

I nearly lost my balance and tumbled onto the floor, but she reached out and grabbed the hood of my hoodie, holding me steady with one hand.

"Oh, girl... you might want to think twice about those little things inside you before you go trying to pick fights. Unless you want them dead, that is," she said.

Did she really just call my pups things?

I steadied myself, my breathing coming in ragged gasps. She let go of my hoodie, and I stood my ground, glaring at her with every ounce of hate I had.

"You bitch..." I snarled.

"Wow... I never thought I’d hear you call your idol that. What happened to my number one fan? The girl who wanted to be just like me?" she said. She was playing with me, her voice light and mocking.

"Just wait and see. The mother of my pups is going to find me. My brother will find me. You can’t keep me locked in here forever. Someone will notice I’m gone. They will find me, and you’re going to regret ever kidnapping me."

"Oh, really? You’re still counting on your Alpha Princess to save the day?" she scoffed. She let out a little tsk-tsk-tsk sound, shaking her head. "News flash, Faye. She won’t be able to find you here. No one can."

Her smile suddenly vanished, turning into something much colder and much more final.

"She’s in a place you’ll never be able to reach now."

A long, heavy pause followed her words. The silence in the room was deafening.

"Your Alpha Princess isn’t coming for you, Faye. Not today. Not ever."
