I slowly opened my eyes to see Princess’s eyes wide open. She was staring at the ceiling, her gaze fixed on the wooden beams like they were the most fascinating thing in the world.

I noticed I had been sleeping on her arm the whole time, my head heavy against her shoulder. That must have been the reason she hadn’t gotten out of bed yet; she was just lying there, stiff and patient, waiting for me to wake up so she wouldn’t disturb my rest.

I shifted my head slightly, the movement catching her attention, and she turned her face toward mine. I smiled at her, feeling that warm glow in my chest that always came when she was the first thing I saw.

"Good morning Pancake.." I said, reaching up to give her a quick kiss on the lips. I pulled away just enough to rest my head back on her chest, listening to the steady thrum of her heartbeat. She wrapped her arms around me, pulling me in tight.

"Am I sure you had a good night.. darling?" She said, her voice a bit raspy from sleep.

Of course I did. Last night we finally made love after so long, and the memory of it made my skin feel hot all over again. Princess had been resisting the entire time we were back in Oakland, controlling herself because she was so worried about my health, but getting high made her break those walls down. It was amazing to finally have that connection again without all the hovering and the fear.

"You also had a good night.." I said, poking her side playfully.

"We both had.. are you okay?" She asked, kissing the top of my head and stroking my hair.

"Yes I am... I am better than I was yesterday.. so what do you want to do today?" I asked. Today was our day, the last bit of freedom we had before the chaos started again. We were going to return to Oakland by nightfall and tomorrow it was back to school.

Wow, I haven’t been to school since last year, and the thought of sitting in a classroom felt like a lifetime ago.

"Your friends offered sightseeing so I will be hanging around them today." She said.

Sightseeing. I almost snorted. Obviously it’s not sightseeing; they planned on telling her all my naughty secrets the second I was out of earshot. I know Alex, he will brag on about my life here in Redwood, making up stories to make me look like a wild child, and Katie will definitely gist with her about every wolf who ever looked my way.

I wish I could follow and put them in line, but Guru and I are going for fishing. It’s a tradition, something we do together every Sunday when I’m home. I couldn’t ditch him, not after being gone for seven months.

We took our bath together, but it took way longer than it should have. We spent so much time in the bathroom mostly making out.

For some reason, we can’t just bath together and not make out, and I am usually the one who initiates first. Don’t blame me; seeing my Alpha Princess naked turns me on instantly, and I have zero self-control when it comes to her. Well, I’m glad having sex is back on the table. No more restraining, no more distance.

After bathing, Princess helped me with my hair. She just seemed to like drying my hair and styling it to her desired choice, her long fingers working through the tangles with more patience than I ever had. It made me wonder if we had girls, if they would sit just like this while she braided their hair. I smiled thinking about it, then I looked up to the mirror, staring at my girlfriend busy combing my hair with a concentrated look on her face.

"If we have girls they are going to be lucky." I mutter, watching her reflection.

"You are lucky, you are my first baby girl..." she teased, catching my eye in the glass. I giggled, leaning my head back against her. "Do you want us to find out about their genders... I also need to start with the nursery.." Princess said, her tone turning more practical.

"Alright then, let’s find out when we get home.." I said.

Then Princess was quiet. I noticed the same facial expression I saw when I first woke up, that distant, lost look that made her seem miles away.

"What’s bothering you babe, I have noticed that your mind has been somewhere else lately.." I asked, turning around on the stool to face her properly.

"I’m just wondering.. what if we stayed here instead of Oakland.. we raise our pups here.." she said, looking around the rustic room.

Was that really coming out from Princess Kings? Just one night here and she was thinking about living here? Did she fall in love with Redwood so soon, or was she just trying to run away from whatever was waiting for us back home? Living here would be great, the air is cleaner and life is slower, but Princess’s life is in Oakland, not here in the mountains.

"What about your life in Oakland, your school, work... your family?" I asked, trying to bring her back to reality.

"I can do those remotely and you, Faye, are my family... wherever you are is my home.." she said.

Every time she says that, I just can’t help but blush, the heat blooming in my cheeks.

But I was talking about her other family, the ones who actually shared her blood.

"Your Gramps and brothers are in Oakland, they are not going to like the idea of you leaving home..." I said, reminding her of the reality of her pack.

"I don’t think they care about me or my well-being, where I sleep is not going to be a big deal.." she said, her voice turning cold and flat.

Wait, is that strike thing still going on? I forgot about it with all the Yuki drama. I didn’t get to ask her how it went or if things had settled down between her and the old man.

"Did your grandfather call you after that match with Yuki?" I asked.

"No.. he hasn’t." She said with a low voice, her eyes dropping to the floor.

"So it’s really a big deal huh.. what about your brothers? You can ask Adam since he is the closest to your grandfather.. he can talk to him to make things right." I suggested, trying to find a middle ground.

"Don’t worry, I don’t need my brothers’ support, even if I do they won’t render it.." Princess said, her jaw tightening.

"But you are their little sister... Paye takes care of me unconditionally..." I said. I couldn’t imagine my brother not helping me if I had problems; Paye would lay down his life for me in a heartbeat. The idea of siblings who didn’t back each other up felt wrong.

"Faye, your brother and my brothers are not the same. Okay.. let’s change the topic I am not having it.." Princess said, her tone final.

I just kept staring at her, wondering what exactly happened between her and her family while I was gone.

Why would her grandfather be this strict over a match or strikes? I have not met that grandpa of hers, but I am starting to have the word hate for that Alpha.

He was making my Princess feel like she didn’t have a place to belong, and that was something I couldn’t stand.
