On their way home, inside the car, Princess was the one driving while Faye was sitting in the passenger seat.

Faye was eating a mango popsicle. She looked outside the window; the sky was dark. It was past midnight. The cold wooden stick felt smooth between her fingers as she took another bite, the sweet juice cooling her tongue.

Then she stared at Princess, who wasn’t looking at her. Her face hadn’t been smiling since the scene in the kitchen. Princess kept her hands locked at ten and two, her knuckles white against the leather of the steering wheel.

"So... wh..."

"If you’re trying to ask about what happened in the kitchen, it wasn’t anything romantic. We were just talking about stuff," Princess said.

She tried to defend herself because she thought Faye had the impression that something was happening between her and Kiara. She was trying to avoid Faye’s tantrums, not when she had just found out that her best friend’s memory had been tampered with. Her voice was rushed, her breathing tight as she kept her eyes glued to the black pavement ahead.

"Girl, you were fucking choking her, talking about what she did with Beam. Do you do that to your friends when you get mad?" Faye asked. She lowered the popsicle, turning her entire body toward the driver’s seat.

Princess tapped her hand on the steering wheel. There wasn’t going to be an easy explanation. Her thumb bounced against the plastic, her mind racing as she tried to find the right words without making herself sound crazy.

"She did something to Beam, and I lost control because Beam doesn’t deserve to be treated like that. Just because she is fucking obsessed with her doesn’t mean she gets to erase her memory of her, or whatever she did to her," Princess said. She exhaled a long, shaky breath, her jaw clenching as the image of Beam’s blank, happy face flashed in her mind again.

Faye watched as Princess looked stressed. She really wasn’t happy about whatever was happening, and after having a wonderful baby shower, she had just found out some bad news.

Faye felt sympathy for Princess, but not for Beam.

"I’m sorry your friends are making you stressed, but I don’t give a fuck about what is happening in their lives. They are not nice to me, especially your ex-girlfriend," Faye said, looking out the window. She took another aggressive bite of her popsicle, watching the dark shadows of the forest zoom past.

"Come on, Beam already apologized like a month ago, and Kiara... she doesn’t always admit what is going on inside her sick mind. She’s always building walls as a form of protection, but deep down she’s a scared little girl, she is a nice girl but crazy nice..." Princess said, her eyes becoming a bit teary. A single tear threatened to spill over her thick lashes, her throat tightening as she thought about how broken their little trio actually was.

Faye glanced at her, then turned back to the window. The cold glass fogged up slightly from her breath.

"You were choking her," Faye muttered.

"And I said I lost control." Princess muttered back, her voice cracking slightly.

"If you ever lose control, will you choke me too?" Faye said without facing her. Her fingers tightened around the melting popsicle stick, her heart giving a strange, heavy thump in her chest.

Remembering the time Princess slammed Sasha against the wall at the mall, choking her because of the Peamah incident...

"No, I will never do that to you. Even when you make me mad, I will never do that to you. Instead, I either leave your presence so I can calm down, or we use the pause button. You are my other half. No one does that to their mate." Princess spoke firmly, her tone dropping into that deep, unquestionable Alpha certainty. She glanced over for a split second, her eyes completely serious.

"I hope you don’t, because if you try, you will end up in a hospital," Faye said, making a biting sound. She snapped her teeth together sharply, the sound echoing in the quiet vehicle.

That sound reminded Princess of the Sunday Faye bit her inside the bamboo house during the paintball game. She could practically feel the ghost of those sharp fangs sinking into her forearm.

"My arm still itches..." she muttered, trying to laugh a little, forcing a quick smile before returning to her usual state. The small grin vanished as quickly as it came, her face settling back into a heavy scowl.

Faye just shook her head, looking at the girl trying to smile. She knew that look all too well.

"Numbing state again?" Faye guessed.

"No, I just can’t stop thinking about what Kiara did to Beam," Princess said. She shifted her grip on the wheel, her chest rising and falling in shallow, frustrated movements.

"Did she make Beam drink some memory-wipe shit or cast a spell?" Faye asked, finishing off the last bit of the mango ice.

"I don’t know. Beam still remembers her, but she has this kind of... I won’t say hate, but more of a ’I dislike this person’ vibe. And the falling for the first person you see thing... it’s something like... umm... mind control. I will figure it out, and when I do, she is going to regret it. Regret it!" Princess said, hitting the steering wheel. Her open palm slapped the leather with a loud, ringing crack that made the dashboard rattle.

"You are still pissed. Please calm down so you won’t kill us," Faye said, holding her big bump. She pressed both hands over the round curve of her stomach, her breathing shifting as she felt the pups stir anxiously inside her.

Princess looked at her, touched Faye’s bump, and smiled. She slid one large, warm hand across the console, letting her palm rest against the lower half of Faye’s belly.

"Mama still loves you, okay? Don’t be sad in there. Apologies for the loud noise," Princess said. Her voice dropped an octave, turning incredibly soft and soothing as she rubbed gentle circles over the fabric.

Faye smiled at the calm tone Princess used to talk to the pups. Seeing her angry girlfriend become gentle whenever she spoke to them was nice. It made the knot of anxiety in her own chest loosen up a bit.

"You know, Faye, I can’t wait to get home and tear those clothes off you.. then fuck you....." Princess said unexpectedly. A sudden, wicked spark returned to her eyes, her lips twitching upward.

"Are you fucking kidding me?" Faye replied. She blinked in disbelief, her head snapping around to stare at her girlfriend’s profile.

"I-I’m trying to get my mind off my friends, and thinking about you is what I can think of right now to distract myself." Princess stuttered slightly, a faint blush creeping up her neck as she kept her eyes on the road.

"You pervert of a bitch."

"Look who’s talking. You’re way worse than me. You come to me when you want it, and who am I supposed to go to when I want it... someone else?" Princess grinned, her thumb stroking Faye’s hip affectionately.

"Get your fucking hands off my tummy and focus on nothing but the road..... And if you ever get horny, I am the one you come to. If I’m not there, just go to bed and sleep. You better not look for someone else," Faye warned. She slapped Princess’s hand away playfully, though her voice carried a sharp, possessive edge.

"Ay, Ay captain.... But we’re still having sex, right?" Princess asked with a curious, serious face. She leaned slightly closer, her eyebrows raised in anticipation.

"Hmmm... yes, we are. We’ll see who is going to rip each other apart first." Faye smirked, crossing her arms back over her chest as a heavy warmth spread through her lower stomach.

"I’m going to win, because you just made it a game." Princess chuckled, her foot pressing down a little harder on the gas pedal.

Princess was talking when she realized Faye had gone quiet. She looked at her and saw that she had frozen. Faye’s hands were hovering just above her lap, her face completely pale under the dashboard lights.

"What’s wrong, babe?" Princess’s smile vanished instantly, her foot hovering over the brake.

"I don’t know if it was pee, but I couldn’t control it... and it’s not stopping," Faye muttered, looking down at her lap. Her voice was tiny, a sudden wave of panic making her chest heave up and down.

Princess’s eyes dropped to her girlfriend’s lap, noticing the liquid soaking through her pants. A wet stain was spreading rapidly across the fabric, dripping down onto the car mat.

Her eyes widened. The realization hit her like a physical blow to the chest, her heart hammering against her ribs.

Both Princess and Faye looked at each other. The silence in the car was completely deafening now, the low hum of the engine the only thing keeping them grounded.

"Is this a normal thing?" Faye asked. Her bottom lip trembled, her fingers gripping the edge of the seat as a sharp, tight cramp suddenly rippled through her lower abdomen.

"No..."

Princess was speechless. Her brain stalled for a fraction of a second, her hands gripping the wheel so hard the leather groaned.

Then she immediately turned the car around and sped toward the Kings hospital.
