I searched for Princess, my heart hammering against my ribs as the elevator climbed back up from the underground world. When the doors slid open, I stepped outside and let my eyes scan the lot. The night air was cooler now, but it didn’t do much to settle my nerves. I finally spotted her by her car, just leaning against the metal with her head down. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"Hey, Princess, I was looking for you. Why are you here?" I said, walking toward her. I reached out, trying to hold her or just touch her arm, but she drifted away from me. She moved like I was a stranger, her body language turning cold and distant.

"What happened? Is it because of the underground race..." I asked, my voice trailing off. I was trying to figure out why she was so quiet, why the energy between us had suddenly shifted into something sharp.

She didn’t say anything at all. She just stood there, staring at the pavement and avoiding eye contact like it was a chore.

I tried kissing her cheek, thinking maybe she was just in one of those moods of hers where she needed a little extra affection, but she didn’t respond. She didn’t even flinch. She just felt like stone.

"Are you not supposed to be with your friends? You should go meet them instead of staying with someone like me..." she muttered, her voice low and flat.

The realization hit me. Was she actually jealous that I left her to be with them?

"Princess, if this is about what happened earlier, I just met them tonight after almost three months. I didn’t want them to..."

"I heard you telling your friends that I wasn’t your type... just a coincidence, huh?" she said, finally looking at me. Her eyes were hard, reflecting the neon lights of the club sign.

She stepped away from the car, standing a few feet in front of me with her arms folded tight. She let out a short, bitter laugh that didn’t sound like her at all.

"I remember you once said I wasn’t on your list. Even now, we wouldn’t be this close if that one night didn’t happen. You would’ve stayed in your lane, and I would’ve stayed in mine..."

I opened my mouth to explain, but she kept going, the words spilling out like they’d been bottled up for way too long.

"My mind was always on the fucking game. I was this close to getting what I wanted. I worked for everything, and now some 12th grader is in my place... but I was still acting like everything was fine, because I thought I had someone..."

"Princess, what I said earlier in the club, I was just trying to..."

"Fucking shut up..."

She cut me off before I could finish the sentence. The intensity in her gaze made me stop in my tracks.

"You want me to be dominant, then you don’t want me to be dominant. You think it’s easy for me to act calm? Your brother slammed the door in my face, and I stayed calm because I was trying to be good for you."

Her voice was starting to crack, showing the strain she had been under.

"When I was supposed to prove to my brother that I could be his right hand, I was busy trying to do right by you and the pups... and now.. I’m not your type?"

She paused then continued..

"I thought we were something... I was trying to be something for you while I was losing everything inside..."

Her voice rose, turning raw and angry, echoing in the quiet parking lot. I tried to move closer, wanting to close the gap between us, but she stepped back again, keeping that distance like a wall. She took a deep, shaky breath before speaking again.

"My last relationship wasn’t like this. It had its issues, but I was still on top. No one dared to challenge me. No one slammed a fucking door in my face..."

She looked at me then, really looked at me, and I felt a pit form in my stomach.

"I don’t think this relationship is good for either of us. I need to get my control back... I’ll just be a co-parent for the pups... but not your mate friend..."

My heart stopped. Was she... was she actually breaking up with me? We hadn’t even officially defined what we were to each other yet, and she already wanted to end it all.

"Princess, I had no idea your exam was this serious..." I whispered, the guilt washing over me.

"I need to go home."

She turned away from me, her back a solid line against the night. My voice began to break as I spoke. I had never been in a situation like this before, where everything felt like it was slipping through my fingers.

"You can’t just break up with me... you’re the only one I can be with. You fucking marked me... you’re my mate and..."

"I need to rebuild my empire so I don’t have to rely on you..." she said. She didn’t even turn back to look at me as she spoke.

"Go home. Get some rest. Stay healthy. If you need anything, you can call me... but only for the pups..."

Her eyes look directly to the car,

"Take the car home. I’ll send someone to pick it up tomorrow."

And just like that, she started walking away. She didn’t look back once. I stood there, rooted to the spot, watching her silhouette get smaller as she headed toward the street.

I had never been this into someone before. Not really. But watching her leave like that... it felt like something physical was being torn open inside my chest. It was a cold, empty feeling that made it hard to breathe.

I stood by the car, completely alone in the dark lot. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know whether I should just drop to the ground and cry... or if I should run after her and beg her not to leave me like this.
