We all sat inside the mall eatery, squeezed into a booth that felt way too small for the amount of tension in the air. It was three of us sitting against three of them. We spent the next hour explaining everything, layer by layer, until the whole ugly truth was out on the table.

I said my own part first, and it lined up with what Malo and Sasha had already started to confess. Sasha didn’t try to hide it anymore. She said the same thing she told us. Peamah had tried to force himself on her, and when she refused, he lost it. He tried to kill her right there in the woods. Sasha looked small as she spoke, swearing to us that she never meant to rip any one of our hearts out. She said she was only trying to use her power to make me and Malo calm down, like some kind of twisted intimidation to keep us from running.

As for what happened to Peamah, she insisted that was the first time she had ever done something like that. She had never killed a person before. She mentioned that she just couldn’t watch Peamah trying to kill me. She said she simply sensed his beating heart from where she was standing and ripped it out without even laying a finger on him. Again, she looked us in the eye and assured us that was her first time ever experiencing that kind of power.

Sasha apologized again to Princess, her voice trembling, but Princess didn’t seem to care about the fact that Sasha had killed Peamah. That didn’t move her at all. The only thing she cared about was the fact that Sasha had threatened to kill me. To an Alpha like her, that was the only part that actually mattered.

"So... my brother is dead," Beam muttered. She sounded like she was in a trance after hearing the whole story.

"Beam, Peamah tried to..." Sasha started to say, trying to defend herself.

"Peamah may sometimes be annoying and he always acts too big and powerful, but what you are saying does not describe him." Beam stood her ground, defending her brother. She couldn’t believe the person we were describing was the same person she grew up with.

"Wait, you mentioned he has been ordering pills from you. What type did he order?" Princess asked. Her voice was back to being normal and steady.

"The red one," Sasha explained. "He mentioned that he wanted something to boost his reflexes. He was obsessed with winning this year’s championship. He bought all the pills I had from me."

"You sold pills?" Princess’s eyes narrowed. "Pills are meant to be free, and you gave him all of them? Did you even bother to read the job description I sent to you? Because if you did, you would know that selling pills to Oaklanders is forbidden. And when they ask for more, there is a particular pill you are supposed to give, no matter how much they beg for the red ones."

She paused for a second, letting the weight of her words sink in.

"You are fired, and I don’t want to see you anywhere near my club. Malo, you are back in, but you are on probation."

Princess said it so easily. It was like she was just moving things around in her daily schedule.

Malo couldn’t hold back his happiness. He jumped up like an excited kid who just won a prize, then he quickly noticed the look on Princess’s face and sat back down immediately.

"I was just... oh my goodness Sasha, I can’t believe you gave Peamah the red pills. How could you?" Malo said, quickly trying to shift the blame and the attention back onto Sasha. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

"Beam, you are tasked to check on your brother," Princess said, moving on. "Does he have a heart or not? And your dad covering his murders, we need to confront him for an explanation soon. Kiara, you are to ask your moms about how a dead person comes back to life. They know the history."

Princess assigned everyone their tasks like a general. Beam was an easy choice since she lived under the same roof as her brother. Kiara made sense too, because her family knew all about the old lore and they had their own library.

She did not say anything to me. Not even a glance. I sat there in the booth feeling like a ghost. I bet she was still incredibly angry with me for getting involved in the first place.

After everything that happened at the mall, everyone finally went home. Princess told Beam to escort Kiara back since she would be the one taking me home.

We arrived at my house a little while later. We sat there inside the car, the engine idling quietly. Princess did not say anything to me the whole way. This girl is really good at the silent treatment when she wants to be.

I was the one who finally forced myself to speak up.

"Princess, I know you are upset. Can you say something before I leave?" I asked. My hand was already on the car handle, ready to open the door and get out of there.

"Omega, you need to think about yourself first," she said. She still wasn’t looking at me. Her voice was low and serious. "You are pregnant. Look, I don’t want to lose what I am expecting in a few months’ time.... I don’t want to lose my family before I get to meet them. Please don’t put yourself in any form of danger again."

Knowing how much the pups meant to her, I knew I had to try my best to stay out of trouble. I just hoped there wouldn’t be any more danger waiting for me anytime soon. I nodded my head and reached out to hold her hand, giving her my assurance that I heard her.

She forced a small smile, which was the first bit of warmth I’d seen all evening.

"I will see you on Monday. Take care of yourself too," I muttered.

"Monday? We are seeing each other tomorrow," she said.

"I don’t think I will come to the mall tomorrow. I have to stay at home and just rest," I replied.

"Wait... you have forgotten about our appointment tomorrow."

She looked at me then, looking a bit surprised. I froze in the passenger seat.

Appointment? My mind went totally blank. I tried to think back to the last few days, but I couldn’t find anything. I didn’t want to ask and look stupid, but I had nothing.

"Tomorrow, we are having our first ultrasound," she said softly. "We are going to find out how many pups we are having."
