"Miss, are you looking for Miss Daya and the others?" As Lucien came out of the restroom, he happened upon another maid, who bowed with a smile and extended her hand to Lucien with nearly the exact movements as the maid from before.

"They are now playing in the back garden, miss, shall I take you there?" The maid smiled, but her smile sent a chill down Lucien’s spine.

"It seems like I understand the essence of ’manipulation’ in the goblin priest ritual now," Lucien murmured to himself, clearly seeing the seemingly normal emotional colors of the maid before him.

At this moment, Lucien felt that these "normal players" were like soulless spider silk of astonishing stickiness, and he was the pitiful insect entangled in the web, struggling in vain to escape.

Perhaps he wouldn’t find that "Mr. Spider" even at the last moment...

Perhaps for him now, even death could only cause a slight inconvenience to the goblin priest, like blowing up his Spirit Power Core himself, and then others would hear a loud bang followed by the sight of a blooming blood-red firework...

A foul, burnt smell emanated from the crucible on Carly’s experiment table, accompanied by a puff of black smoke, the potion ingredients worth over thirty magic stones were completely ruined.

"Monica, would you mind preparing two... no, three sets of potion ingredients for me?" Carly, feeling slightly irritated, took out a bag of magic stones from her storage ring and handed it to Monica, her student and lab assistant.

"Teacher, should I come over tonight or..."

"This is the last group for this morning!" Edison carelessly threw the heavy metal chains that were bound to him onto the ground.

The heavy chains hit the floor, creating a shallow pit.

"Huff... huff..." And behind him, there followed a figure considerably smaller than Edison; he too was bound by heavy metal chains, and his walk was somewhat shaky.

"Brando, you are too weak. You need to eat more, get some strength." Edison looked at Brando, whose face was somewhat pale, and flashed a wide grin with his white teeth.

"I know, Brother Edison." Brando’s body swayed, but his eyes showed unwavering determination. After a moment of silence, he looked up at Edison, who was more of a teacher than a brother to him.

"That... I plan to leave Greybone Academy in a couple of days to visit my hometown."

Suddenly, Edison’s body trembled. Although he did not feel as directly or intensely as Carly did, at that moment, he suddenly felt an immense heaviness in his chest, and even the dried meat he was chewing seemed tasteless.

"Teacher..." Edison uttered a word, his voice becoming somewhat hoarse.

The hole was not large, but it was enough for the bright sunshine outside to barge in fiercely and quickly tear the room’s darkness to shreds.

Lucien almost instinctively grasped at this glimmer that represented hope of life; his consciousness also emerged from the dazed state it had been in, and he was somewhat startled to realize that he had almost fallen victim without a sound!

The power of despair that had quietly appeared inside his own spirit core, even for an instant, truly made Lucien feel as if those were his own thoughts—even indulging the idea of self-destructing the spirit core to end everything seemed so natural, so logical.

"Get out!" Upon discovering the traces of these despairing emotions, Lucien did not hesitate to fight back, using his spiritual power. The Spiritual Constant Star accelerated in its rotation, shattering the emotion named despair into pieces.

"Huff... huff..." Only when there was no longer a trace of despair’s dark emotion inside the spirit core did Lucien finally breathe a sigh of relief. The confrontation was brief and subtle, yet the danger was something he did not want to taste a second time.
