After politely greeting him, Lucien couldn’t wait to start examining Marquis Mondok’s emotional color.

"The surface displays a deep blue; he seems preoccupied with something, or perhaps it is a composure characteristic of a superior. Also, this blue rhythm isn’t fluctuating much—it’s clear that he is quite rational at the moment..." Lucien rapidly observed the emotional fluctuations of Marquis Mondok but he soon furrowed his brows.

Marquis Mondok’s emotional fluctuations were too normal; in fact, Lucien could even find corresponding parts in them during his conversations with others based on the timing and intervals.

This suggested that Marquis Mondok was likely a "wild" character, not controlled by any player!

Lucien’s expression remained calm, not particularly surprised by this revelation.

He then shifted his attention to the Duchess standing nearby.

"The Duchess seems somewhat excited; her emotional color is a very beautiful bright yellow, and there’s even something akin to the sensation of flames... Hmm, combined with the necklace she is wearing, she probably wants to show off to the other noble ladies, right?"

Lucien lowered his head, concealing the confusion in his heart.

Because through his careful observation, it appeared the Duchess, like Marquis Mondok, was not played by a player but had a wild identity.

But there lay the problem—this was the enemy’s lair!

It was like finding only law-abiding citizens in a bandit’s den. The fact that there was no issue was, in itself, the greatest issue!

Lucien’s complexion turned slightly unsightly as he incredulously began to examine the male and female butlers who were responsible for entertaining other guests.

"Seems like none of them are players..." Lucien’s forehead began to sweat slightly; he gritted his teeth and started to check other individuals of some standing, like maids or stewards.

"Normal."

"Normal."

"Normal..."

The more he checked, the heavier Lucien’s heart sank, for after reviewing over a dozen people, he found not a single one that could be a suspected player!

Everything was too normal! Normal to the point that it seemed as if players did not exist within the Mondok family at all.

Refusing to believe this, Lucien continued his "roll call," observing in order of status within the Mondok family estate from high to low, until finally he found traces of a "player" on a maid of somewhat status.

But this maid’s status within the Mondok family was hardly high; at best, she was just a junior maid head, and in reality, she ranked lower than some personal maids serving the core members of the family.

How could such a minor character possibly secretly control the entire Mondok family?

Was it a problem with the "Mind Reading" talent?

Lucien pondered as he looked at the members of the Mondok family, feeling as if each one of them was a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

"Stay calm, I must stay calm..." Lucien quietly pinched himself with his fingernail, and then he looked around once more with a smile on his face.

He let go of Anos’s hand and ran towards a group of "children."

Since he couldn’t ascertain anything by merely observing emotions, he needed to find other targets to observe and attempt deeper "Mind Reading," without considering the use of spiritual power. It was naturally easier to observe a group of his own peers rather than the adults. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

And his target was, of course, Daya, the young daughter of Marquis Mondok.

"Daya sister!" Lucien trotted over and quickly mingled among the group of children.

"Lurah, you’ve arrived just in time; we were about to go see Helman." Daya was a sweet-faced blonde girl who smiled and greeted Lucien as he approached. Her eyes were clear, and her emotional color radiated a pleasant green.

It was obvious that Daya was in an excellent mood.

"Helman?" Lucien appropriately showed a perplexed expression. He had done his homework before and knew about the important figures within the Mondok family, but Helman was not among them.

"This is Daya’s younger brother. I heard from my dad that this banquet is actually a celebration for Helman’s birthday..." a boy whispered interjecting.

"Yes, but because my little brother isn’t very healthy, we’re keeping the gathering low-key..." Daya explained quietly.

"It looks like a preemie..." Lucien quickly gathered from the snippets of conversation who Helman was.

"Right, Helman must be sleeping now. When everyone goes in, just look from afar and don’t talk!" Daya now took on an authoritative adult-like demeanor, her eyes serious as she looked at the other children.

Lucien took the opportunity to lock eyes with Daya, and as his Mind Reading ability activated, he quickly entered Daya’s inner world and saw an image of the girl leaning over a crib, being patted on the head, and given some instructions to note.

"Is this what Daya’s thinking? It seems she’s really just a player character. Her inner thoughts are consistent with her identity..." Lucien sighed helplessly in his mind, but at that moment, he was swept along by a group of children tiptoeing toward the nearby baby room.

Soon, Lucien saw Helman.

There lay an infant, deep in slumber, with a wrinkled face and his little body showing multiple small folds of baby fat.

"Ew, so ugly..." A child’s voice carried a slight disdain but was quickly shooed away by Daya, protective as a mother hen.

"My little brother is the cutest!" Daya’s voice was deliberately lowered, but it carried an undeniable tone.

"Okay, Daya, why don’t you take your friends to play in the room? Your little brother can’t be exposed to the draft right now..." A beautiful, albeit frail-voiced woman spoke from a corner of the room.

"Hm?" Lucien noticed the resting woman, narrowed his eyes ever so slightly, and then unleashed his Mind Reading talent.

Everything was normal.

Lucien frowned slightly but was hurriedly ushered out of the baby room by Daya.

Creak—

A maid closed the door to the room.

Suddenly, the maid stiffened, and then her actions returned to normal, except her eyes were now devoid of pupils; the distinction between black and white blurring in a moment, her iris turned completely to a chaotic grey.

Not just her, the eyes of the newly postpartum Duchess and a wet nurse on standby had also turned a solid grey.

The only one unchanged was the infant who calmly opened his eyes, his mouth slightly open. Although his voice box had not fully matured to form proper syllables, his buzzing lips were uttering a word in an unknown and special language.

"Wizard."

The next instant, everyone in the room’s gaze returned from grey back to their normal colors. They busied themselves with their tasks as if nothing had happened.

"Call the maid to change Helman’s blanket."

"Yes, my lady." The maid bowed respectfully, and soon another maid, responsible for miscellaneous tasks, was called in.

If Lucien were still there, he would recognize that this maid happened to be one of the suspected player characters he had sensed before.

"My lady," the maid greeted with a bow.

But the next moment, a terrifying grey miasma completely enveloped her. Under the influence of the miasma, the maid’s eyes gradually turned grey, while a vague outline began to emerge on her skin. It struggled and roared, but no sound was emitted.

Suddenly, with a soft pop, the player character’s body exploded, turning into specks of golden ink that flew into the infant’s mouth.

Smack smack...

Baby Helman smacked his lips with a look of utter satisfaction, and his wrinkled little brow relaxed in that moment.
