"No!" Buck wanted to say something, but when he tried to speak, he felt his body had become incredibly cumbersome, as if even the small act of opening his mouth was extraordinarily strenuous and difficult.

Yet Buck’s eyes remained a blurry grey-white, devoid of the vivacity and vitality belonging to the living.

About five minutes later, Buck concluded his chat with Bartus, straightened the tricorn on his head, and strode towards the lower deck. "Hard to port!"

He hurried down the stairs, coming across some "sailors" skulking around, and without any hesitation, Buck kicked them.
