"I know my project is leaked."

Of all the things I expected him to say, this wasn’t even on the list. My heart’s racing like a panicked fish flopping on dry land, while his voice remains infuriatingly calm, like a cat pretending it didn’t just fall off the couch.

This guy is impossible to understand!

"You knew?" I hiss, clutching the paper tighter. "And you didn’t think to mention it? You’re acting like it’s just another Sunday, Jun!"

"Relax, Bunny," he says, the faintest hint of amusement in his tone. "Panicking won’t help."

"Relax?" I snap, pacing around the garage. "Jun, this isn’t some small hiccup. Someone knows about your secret Formula 1 project, the one you’ve practically built a fortress around to keep hidden! Is this information leaked through me? Trust me, I swear... I have been taking all the precautions, have installed the best software on my laptop, and following your instructions to dot. I’m not letting anyone touch it and always keep it secure with me. Please trust me, it’s not me--- "

"Breathe breathe breathe....."

I suck in a deep breath. Does he trust me anymore?

"I know, it isn’t you." his reply is a soothing balm to my heart. "It got leaked when I transported the car from America. Someone was keeping an eye on me."

I don’t know what else to say. Wish he was here, lest I could have hugged him once. It’s his dream dammit!

"Look at me, bunny."

I shake my head, keeping my back to the camera.

"I have taken precautions."

"What kind of precautions?"

"I’ve doubled security around the house and company and every document tied to the project is encrypted with top-tier protection that’s under Meimei’s supervision. Whoever sent that note wanted to scare us, not sabotage us—yet."

"Yet?" I turn to him, "You’re taking this way too casually for someone whose dream project could be in danger."

"Bunny, listen." His tone drops, becoming serious. "Whoever’s behind this wants a reaction from us. Technically, they have nothing in hand at the moment. The calmer we stay, the less control they have over us. I’ve got this handled. You just focus on finishing that VR prototype so I can get the patent done."

I rub my forehead, the weight of it all sinking in. "You’re sure you’ve got this?"

"Trust me. This isn’t my first dance with corporate sharks." His voice softens, and I can almost hear the smile in it. "Besides, I can’t have you panicking, or Bear might start worrying too. Look how is looking at you."

I let out a small laugh despite myself and kissed his head, "I’m okay baby. Don’t worry."

"And you’re adorable when you’re mad. Now, Bunny, finish what you’re doing and get some rest. Leave the cloak-and-dagger stuff to me."

"And bunny?"

"Yeah?"

"Whatever you see.... Don’t believe it. Trust your heart and have faith in me."

I hang up reluctantly, but his words echo in my mind, confusing me. What does he mean? And who sent this note? Whoever that is, he isn’t just targeting his project—they’re playing a dangerous game. Something bigger.

I wake up to a wet tongue licking my cheek. "Bear..." I groan, trying to turn away, but he’s persistent, his cold nose pressing against my neck with renewed enthusiasm.

"Alright, alright!" I sit up, rubbing my eyes. Bear wags his tail furiously, tongue lolling out as if he’s already accomplished the greatest mission of his day. Jun left his alarm clock to me. "Did Jun tell you to wake me up every morning?"

Bear barks as if saying ’hell yes’.

"Figures," I grumble, checking my phone. "—oh no."

My phone flashes with an intimidating number of notifications. I swipe it up, and my heart drops as I take in the headlines.

"Battle of the Feng Brothers: Junjie and Jianyu Caught in Bidding War for Dubai’s Exclusive Marina Beach Property!"

"Feng Junjie Spotted in Dubai with New Mystery Woman!"

"Is Trouble Brewing in the Feng Empire? Sources Suggest Strain Between Siblings."

What the hell?

I’ve subscribed to every possible alert about Jun and his family. And today, the notifications are relentless, the comment section worst.

So, that’s where Jun has been. Dubai. But it’s not the location that stings; it’s the "mystery woman" part. A pang of unease twists in my chest.

The photo accompanying the article is grainy, but there’s no mistaking Jun, dressed to kill in his signature suit, walking alongside a tall, elegant woman in sunglasses and heels. They’re entering a sleek, luxurious building, hand in hand.

I stare at the image longer than I should, analysing every detail.

Bear tilts his head, watching me like he’s trying to understand why I’m spiraling. "Don’t look at me like that. This isn’t jealousy. It’s—research."

Bear snorts, clearly unimpressed with my deflection.

My stomach churns. The logical part of me screams, Relax, Yiren. She’s probably an investor, a client... anyone. But the other part, the part that’s seen how Jun can charm anyone with a single glance, isn’t so sure.

"Bear, you tell me," I ask, "Who’s more likely to be right? The logical me, or the irrational, overthinking me?"

He barks twice, which I take as: You’re on your own, lady.

I toss the phone onto the bed and bury my face in the pillow. What a bad start of the day.

Another notification.

Just because I have zero self-control and I love tormenting myself, I check it.

Jun: Remember what I said last night.

My heart skips a beat. He has to be referring to his cryptic comment—"Don’t believe everything you see." But how can I not?

Me: Just one question, please... Who is she?

The three dots appear almost immediately, and I hold my breath.

Jun: Jealous?

I roll my eyes, even as my cheeks heat up.

Me: Very.

Jun: Good. She’s nothing.

I pause, staring at his response. Nothing. That’s it. No explanation. Just two words that somehow simultaneously calm and annoy me.

Me: Really?

Jun: That’s a second question, Bunny.

I let out a frustrated groan and drop my phone onto the couch. "This man will be the death of me."

Bear perks up at my tone, probably thinking it’s food time. "Not now, baby. Mama’s having a crisis."

I grab the phone again, typing and deleting messages before finally settling on one.

Me: Okay, gotta go. Have to get ready for the day. Miss ya.

Before I can think, I hit send. My eyes widen in horror. Miss ya? What are you, Yiren? A lovesick teenager?

Quickly, I unsend the message and retype:

Me: Okay, gotta go. Have to get ready. Bye.

The phone buzzes almost immediately.

Jun: What was the message? I couldn’t see it.

My lips twitch into a smile.

Me: [sticking tongue out emoji]

Jun: Naughty. You’ll pay for this once I’m back.

Me: All barks, no bite.

Jun: we will see.
