"You heard me." She presses me down onto the bed with surprising strength. Holy hell! She’s going to massage me, but the sensations coursing through my body...well, they’re less than innocent. She can’t just go around ordering me like this and think I’ll keep my cool.

I bite the pillow just in case. If her hands glide any lower, I might combust right here in my pants. I just pray I don’t make any embarrassing sounds.

Nostalgia hits me when the room fills with the sharp, herbal scent. It’s her mother’s homemade medicated oil, taking me back to high school rugby games, when her mom would patch up every bump and bruise with this same herbal remedy. I feel the coolness of the oil on my back as Yiren spreads it gently, then starts to knead my sore muscles, her thumbs expertly pressing into knots I didn’t know I had. "ARGHHH-" I bite down harder, groaning as the pain and relief blend into something almost unbearable.

"Give it five minutes. It’s painful at first," she murmurs.

"Mhmm...."

"It’s really sore. What happened?"

I wait until the initial sting eases, sighing into the pillow before answering. "Accident. I was working in the garage. The wheels I unboxed started to roll, and to stop them from crushing my chest, I blocked them with my shoulder."

She freezes mid-massage, her hands hovering just long enough to let me know she’s mad before her thumb digs in with zero mercy. "And why, exactly, aren’t you hiring someone to help you in the garage?" Ooh I love bossy Yiren! My favourite.

"Because it’s not just any car. It’s... more personal."

"Oh?" She raises an eyebrow. "Is it worth risking your shoulder?"

I hesitate. I haven’t told anyone about this, not even my brothers, but... maybe I want her to know. "It’s my dream project. I’m trying to start a company from scratch without using my name or influence. Dreams are worth the risks."

"A startup just like me?" She smiles, "So we are sailing in the same boat."

"Yeah, kind of. But you’re way ahead in progress, and I’m stuck."

"How come?"

"Technical mess—the engine starts smoking at 200 mph. I need it to push 230. It’s a F1 car from scratch. Stupid me. Been trying to make it since college."

"College?" Her hands pause, then soften on my shoulder , "That’s pure dedication, Jun. It’s only a matter of time. You’ve got the talent!" She says it so confidently, and the warmth in her words settles over me. No one’s ever believed in me quite like this.

At least I have one person on my side.

I glance over at the badge from her showcase still hanging around her neck. "How was the VR event?"

She lights up. "Really good! Got a bunch of solid collaborators and even Bru—brought in a tech expert to handle the VR side of things."

"A VR tech expert? Didn’t you top that course? Thought you were the pro."

She gives me a quizzical look. "How do you know I topped it?"

Oh, hell. Rookie mistake. She told Bruce, not me. "Uh...Um...saw it on your resume?"

She shrugs, probably buying my excuse. "I can do the VR design, but the technical side is out of my league. This guy knows all the coding stuff. Really fills in the gaps."

Her fingers trail along my neck, following the tendons in long, slow strokes. The pressure she applies is perfect, and my head sinks into the pillow as a low moan escapes before I can stop it. So much for not making embarrassing sounds.

She chuckles, "I see you’re enjoying this."

"More than you know," I murmur, but it’s not just about the relief in my shoulder. Her touch is electrifying, a kind of magic I didn’t know existed.

"I thought you’d be treating me to a Disney movie, food, and wine. But here I am, doing all the labor." Her mock complaint pulls me out of my trance, and I bolt upright, catching her by surprise.

"Jun! Hey, I was just joking," she push me back to the bed as I tug her to her feet.

Without a word, I guide her down the hallway, her protests fading as we near the projector room. "Jun, it’s fine. We can do it some other—" When I flip the lights on, she freezes, her eyes wide as she takes in the setup. The screen is ready, dim lights casting a soft glow on the room, and trays of food, snacks, and a selection of wine are laid out—all leading up to a hundred classic Disney movies, waiting for her to pick.

Her gaze turns to me, "You did all this?"

"Anything for the woman who can massage my shoulder like that," I pull her toward the floor couch.

"Alright, Jun, but I hope you know this means I’m choosing the first movie."

And of course, she picks The Lion King. Just kill me now. The thought of crying in front of her... Ugh. I always cry at that scene. Damn Scar. He deserves a special place in hell.

She settles in, looking completely content as she stacks a plate with way too much food and places it between us. Sharing? That’s... intimate. But the innocence of it hits me in all the right places. This whole setup has a coziness I didn’t know I needed. If only I could pull her in my arms, nudge my nose in the crook of her neck as we watch it together.

Jun behave yourself! It’s fkng midnight and you are thinking of cuddling your friend?

A minute later, she runs back, scooping Bear into her arms and setting him on the couch, right between us. The little furball looks up at me with that judgmental gaze only Bear can pull off, as if he’s accusing me of abandoning him. I scratch his ears, chuckling under my breath.

"Don’t give me that look, buddy."

He huffs, almost dramatically, snuggling closer to her side. But I catch his little glances, as if he’s still making sure I’m watching. Truth be told, he’s not the only one getting used to a new routine here.

Half way into the movie, I stood and stretch to ease the tension. Yiren pauses the movie, her voice bit hoarse yet soft as she pats the space between her legs. "Come here. Let me work on that shoulder some more."

I gulp.
