I stare at the destruction around me—shattered glass, scattered dishes, and the remnants of the decoration set for our dinner night.

My bleeding knuckles taut around my fist, looking for something more to destroy-- just anything that will douse this rage in my chest. This pain in my heart. She’s gone. She actually went to meet bloody KUNT! And here I foolishly thought she was dressing for me for the night.

Why would she, though? I’m no one. We are no one. Just two people who are friends with benefits, playing a fake dating game to fool the world.

But she forgot, we had an agreement none of us will fool around while we are with each other. This is an exclusive relationship between us and we are to commit to each other in this. I’m not some pushover that she can toy with.

Without hesitation, I call Lie Chen, my chief of security. He picks up immediately.

"Find out where Yiren is. You have five minutes," I bark.

"Yes, boss."

I could have called Meimei. She’d have softer ways of handling this—but with Meimei, there would be questions. And I’m not ready for questions- especially raw anger burning through me.

Four minutes later, Chen calls back. "Madison Hotel. Private dining on the terrace. Balcony table. Do you need backup?"

"No," I reply and hang up, ignoring the unsettled feeling in my gut. She’s breaking the deal. So I’m going to remind her just how serious I am about it.

Downstairs, I pass Rui and Huo, their faces pale as they take in the chaos on the terrace. I don’t give them a second glance.

"Leave everything as it is. No one touches a thing," I say, already heading for my room. Because tonight, Yiren is coming back. And I’m going to make sure she knows exactly how serious I am about this deal—and about her keeping her end of it.

I grab the keys to my Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut—my prized black beast. Maybe it’s overkill, but right now? I don’t care. Kunt’s rolling in a #6 McLaren Speedtail, all shiny and impressive, but I’ve got #1. This isn’t about speed; it’s about making one thing clear: no one takes what’s mine.

As I hit the road, pushing the engine to a steady growl, a strange thought hits me. I didn’t feel like this when Hong chose Zeng over me. Not even a flicker of anger. But now? This is different—anger, possessiveness, rage, the pain in my chest, the need to show up in person and make it clear where Yiren stands and I’ll fight for it...

YIREN’S POV

"Ah, so you have no intention of marrying me? Phew. Thank goodness," I sigh, relief washing over me. Kun actually flew all the way to Imperial City just to ask me not to marry him because he’s madly in love with his girlfriend, and his father isn’t exactly on board. He just wants me to refuse the proposal so his dad will drop the idea of us.

Kun leans back with a dramatic pout. "Ouch, that hurts. The way you’re saying it, I’m feeling completely unappealing." 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

I chuckle, resting my chin on my hands. "It’s not that you’re a bad guy. I’m just... not comfortable with the idea of marrying a stranger. In fact, I’ve decided I’m never getting married." I feel a sting in my nose as I say it. Accepting it gets difficult sometimes. And I’m not telling him why exactly I’m against the idea of marriage. It hurts that something as beautiful and sacred as marriage is not in my destiny.

His eyes widen. "But I thought you were dating Mr. Feng?"

"That’s different," I say quickly, feeling the flush creep up my neck. "None of us have marriage on our minds."

"So... just dating, getting to know each other?" he asks, raising a curious eyebrow.

"Kind of," I say, but it feels flimsy. I’m not even sure how to explain what’s going on between Jun and me. Even I don’t have a clue. And speaking of which—what is he doing with his mystery woman right now? Is he bringing her home tonight? Will she be staying in the same bed I sleep in every night? Control Yiren. Don’t think about that Satan suit.

Kun clears his throat awkwardly, pulling me out of my thoughts. "But Yiren, even if you say no, my dad’s still not going to let me marry Elena. He’s got his issues with us being from different cultures."

"That’s just... racism. It’s your life, your choice. Go ahead and marry Elena, fk your da—" cough. I cleared my throat. Sometimes I forget the filter on my mouth. Clearly, Jun is responsible for it. I never need a filter when he is around--- argh, I’m again thinking about him. Go away. shoo shoo!

Kun laughs, but there’s a bit of resignation in his eyes.

"That’s the thing I cannot fk my dad. I love him and want him to accept her, not just tolerate."

"So what else do you want?"

"I have a plan, if you agree—"

I listen to his devilish plan and can’t help laughing. Executing it is going to be so much fun.

Our food arrives, and my earlier excitement fizzles out. All I see are weird-looking, bite-sized "delicacies." So much for fine dining. A prix fixe menu with courses that look like they belong in a museum rather than on a plate.

"It’s so yum, right?" Kun says, nodding enthusiastically at his dainty plate.

"Mhmm..." I mutter, forcing a smile. Fk tasty. It’s all trash dusted with gold. Right now, there’s a fried fish skin with a dollop of cream, a random flower petal, two green leaves, and what looks like bird poop with caviar on top. One bite and I’m already regretting it. No way am I leaving here with a full stomach. And Kun? He’s polite but...well, a little boring. If Jun were here, we’d have bickered at least ten times by now.

Jun again? Yiren, fix the goddamn brain of yours.

"You’re an architect, right, Yiren? Tell me about your work," Kun says, trying to revive the conversation.

Oh, right. Architect. I design buildings, houses, offices—anything clients want. Simple enough.

But before I can answer, a smooth voice cuts in from behind me. "She’s more than an architect."
