"Come on, let me see him. What’s he hiding for?" Valentina squints, trying to peer around me.

"Take your nosy nose somewhere else, Valentina," I snap, crossing my arms over my chest. "Maybe shove it up your a**—that’s where it belongs."

For a moment, there’s pure silence. Then I see Jun struggling to suppress a laugh from behind the wheel.

Her lips curl into a sneer. "Rich of you to talk, considering what you’ve turned yourself into." She clicks her tongue and tosses her hair. "Tell me, does his D even work, or are you just faking sounds to stroke his ego?"

Before I can fire back, A tattooed arm wearing a million dollar watch comes out of the window. He grabs my hand , bring it to his lips and place a loud kiss on my knuckles, sending a kick in my heart. "My D and the beast I drive have the same horsepower. But don’t worry, you’ll never find out." He says loud and clear for her to listen.

I slap my hand over my mouth, my body shaking with uncontrollable laughter. "Let’s go sweetheart." He flipped her a bird before rolling the window back up before she could even see his face. The sheer absurdity of it leaves me doubled over, holding my stomach as I laugh so hard I almost fall to the pavement.

"Wish I could say it was good to see you, Val," I manage between breaths. "But I really gotta go. Bye!"

She scrambles after me, trying to peek into the driver’s seat, but Jun’s already sealed her out, blocking her view with the tinted window. She grabs my arm, her nails digging into my skin.

"You could’ve had so much more if you’d just listened to me," she hisses, eyes flashing with frustration. "You should’ve sent Feng Junjie to—"

"Get over it! It’s been years already," I snap, jerking my arm away. "GET LOST before I call your fiancé and tip him off about our farewell night."

Her face goes pale instantly.

"I-I don’t know what you’re talking about."

Oh, I’ve got her now.

I flash her my best devilish grin, walking around to the passenger side of the car. "Oh, you know exactly what I’m talking about." I wink at Valentina’s suddenly very scared and confused face before sliding into the seat next to my sugar daddy. My Uncle Juju--who’s grinning as if he’s just won a prize.

"You really know how to make an entrance, Uncle Juju." I grin at him, still riding the high from the Valentina showdown.

"How could I have missed the fun?" Jun shakes his head, mock-disappointment dripping from his tone. "Just missed her facial expression—damn."

"Let me describe it for you—pure gold."

He grins, and it’s that lazy, self-assured smirk he wears too well. "Same goes for that a** comment. Pure gold."

I chuckle, still riding the banter. "That’s the result of constantly battling you. Gotta keep my game sharp."

"Me too, rabbit. Me too. Sometimes, I memorize sassy comebacks just to use them later," he admits, almost casually.

That revelation catches me off-guard. "Wait, what? You practice your sass?"

"Of course," he says it like it’s the most obvious thing in the world. "Can’t lose against you. Too shameful."

Now, that’s unexpected. I snort. "Me too. Gotta keep up with Satan in a suit."

The rest of the drive to the airport is surprisingly fun. When Jun’s not being his usual arrogant self, he’s actually pretty good company. The company you want to stay longer. We stop at McDonald’s for fries and burgers for kids and, to my pleasant surprise, he swings by Starbucks for a coffee just for me. It’s moments like this when he lets his guard down that make me forget he can be such a jerk sometimes.

But, of course, the good times can only last so long.

"You owe me an explanation," he says out of nowhere, drumming his fingers on the steering wheel.

My heart sinks. So much for pretending he didn’t catch Valentina’s mention of his name.

"About what?" I mumble, pretending to be way too focused on my coffee.

He’s not letting it go. "Are we playing a game, Yiren? Or do you just love making me repeat myself?"

"Neither. You’re a sore loser. Plus, you’re full of yourself, so you repeat things just because you love hearing your own voice."

He doesn’t respond immediately, and I think—hope—that maybe, just maybe, he’s letting it slide thinking he is not getting any answer from me. We’re nearing the airport now, driving through some back route, probably for private flights. But, of course, this is Jun. Nothing’s ever truly dropped with him.

"What was Valentina trying to say before you stopped her? ’You should have sent Feng Junjie to—’ What does that mean?"

I drop my head, hoping to God the conversation dies here. "Ah, Juju, can’t we just pretend you didn’t hear anything and move on?"

His answer comes swift and firm. "No."

Of course not. "Then why don’t you go back and ask Valentina? I’m sure it’ll be a dream come true for her to see you at her door. She’s been waiting for it since years."

"What do you mean by that?"

I sigh, knowing he won’t let this go.

"Only on one condition. You will tell me what brings the changes in dad’s behaviour."

But before I can even start I catch the view of an ambulance loading Ning into a different airplane which reads People’s Hospital. She’s still hooked to countless machines as Dr. Wangshi and Zian are instructing the staff around for safe loading. Kai is standing guard at the incubator with other staff. They are keeping the cover secure to protect it from being exposed to polluted air.

Suddenly the coffee tastes muddy....

Jun links my shaking hand into his warm ones, "Bro and Z, both are traveling in that plane. It got my bro’s personal team which flew here specially for this. Don’t worry. Nothing will happen."

And you know what... I believe him.

And just like that, I’m going to tell him the truth....

The truth that once upon a time used to drive my hatred for him....

But... do I still hate him? Probably not.
