Jun’s POV...

I have Doctor Scalper, aka Dr. Colton, with me. He is known as the crazy genius. I don’t know what exactly Meimei hacked, but Daryl’s medical records and his current reports were mailed to me while I was on the plane. Dr. Colton saw it—Daryl had his heart pretty fked up. The dude was a chain smoker and alcoholic and only dropped these habits a few years ago.

They all do this... Drop bad habits when the damage has settled. Good thing I had bro Shishi by my side, when the first time I gave in to the temptation of trying drugs and he found out about it, that was the day I received the hardest slap of my life.

He can be pretty dangerous at times.

But I’m not complaining, that slap prevented me from going further on a wrong path.

It was a massive heart attack, but with medication and exercise, Daryl was managing fine since a few years. Colton doubts that something happened here that induced this. This isn’t normal. I have the same thoughts. The coincidence is too big to believe. But he’s pretty confident that he can manage it. Fingers crossed.

As soon as my plane lands, we rush to Daryl’s house. The servant is there to receive us at the gate and takes us straight to Daryl’s room. It’s gloomy. Conversations stop when they see me. His son, Jason, gives me a dirty look, which I’m not new to.

"Junjie, may I know what you’re doing here? Or are you that shameless that you don’t hesitate to bug a dying man on his deathbed to convince him to give you his company?"

I nod at Colton, gesturing him to go in, but Jason steps in between. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"Don’t you dare step into my dad’s room. I’ve got this under control."

"I see how you’ve got this under control—by waiting for him to die," I shove my hand into my pocket. "And not letting Dr. Scalpel treat him."

Jason’s eyes go wide, and others look at us with confusion. I must say Daryl is blessed man to have an entire army of relatives standing outside his room.

Though their intentions are debatable.

"He—He is Dr. Scalpel?"

"Yes, I’m him, you dumb azz. Now get aside, and let me treat ya old man. I don’t have time for this shit."

Colton, ever the impatient and grumpy one, is just one step away from taking out his scalpel and slicing their throats. He doesn’t wait for permission and barges into the room. The doctors treating Daryl look at Colton as he takes over, pushing them away. I bow to Madam Hawthorn, who looks between us and then walks toward me.

"Mr. Feng, Yiren told me. Is this him?"

"GET AWAY FROM HIM!" Jason yanks Colton’s arm when he’s checking Daryl, causing him to stumble. I rush to hold him before he falls.

"Wrong move," I punch Jason’s smug face. "Never touch my people again. Or next time, the punch won’t be this soft."

Jason presses his bleeding nose, looking between us.

"Mom, he—"

"Shut up, Jason," Madam Hawthorn seethes, surprising me. "They are here to help us. How dare you push Dr. Colton."

I didn’t know what equation she shared with Yiren, but it seems she trusts her a lot. Yiren was the same with Daryl. What can I say? That’s my girl.

It’s odd standing here. I’m not part of this family, nor am I related to them in any way. Not to mention the looks I’m getting from everyone, like I kicked their pet. But I can’t exactly leave Colton with them. He might be feisty, but a sixty-year-old man can’t exactly do anything to Jason, who is 6’4" tall and built well. But right now, he’s fidgeting, sweating...

I send a message to Xion: "Can you get me Jason’s phone records and his bank transactions?"

The reply comes within five minutes: "Who do you think I am? Your personal assistant?"

"It’s midnight at your place. Would you rather I call Meimei and disturb her sleep?"

"Asshole. Give me an hour," his reply comes. "And don’t you dare ask Meimei. Or I’ll feed you to my pet."

I pocket the phone. Xion may be the evil king of the underworld, but Meimei is his weakness.

I couldn’t help smiling.

"What’s so funny?" Jason sneers. "My dad is on his deathbed, and you’re smiling? Already celebrating your win?"

"It’s funny you keep cursing your dad by saying he’s on his deathbed, whereas all I see is Colton clearly stabilizing him. As far as the company is concerned, why does it look like you’re more concerned about it? Or should I say, you’re worried more about your plans with Yifan?"

"Who is Yifan?" Madam Hawthorn just happens to walk in on us and hear our conversation. Or maybe I saw her coming and did that on purpose. Oops.

Jason’s face turns red as his eyes flick between me and his mother. Well...

"Mom, I—I don’t know who he is talking about."

"Really? But Yifan told me in yesterday’s meeting that he’s signing the deal with Daryl to buy his company. Being the director, how come you’re not aware?" Madam Hawthorn looks at her son as he shakes his head, again refusing.

"No idea what he’s talking about. Dad hasn’t told me anything."

Madam Hawthorn turns to me. "Mr. Feng, please come with me."

I look at the door where Colton is. "Don’t worry about Dr. Colton, the incident that happened won’t be repeated again. I’ll make sure of that." As expected of a woman who is the daughter of a Russian mafia family. Ruthless. Scary.

I follow her as she takes me to her study and locks the room. "Explain."

"Your son has secretly done a deal for the company behind Daryl’s back. I suspect this is no coincidence heart attack but actually a planned murder."

She narrows her eyes. "You do understand you are talking about my son? There will be consequences. Don’t forget my roots are Russian Mafia."

"And don’t forget it will take less than a day for me to bring the entire Russian Mafia to my feet." Steel flickers in my voice. I stopped being nice when people forget the line of respect. If she wants to be a bitch, I’ll show her how bitches are treated.
