"Mei, track Yiren’s phone and locate where her car is." Jianyu orders once we’re inside.

Yiren... hurt. Bloody. Tied up. The image haunts me. This can’t be happening.

"Not her phone." I sprint over to Meimei, panic rising in my chest. It feels like someone’s squeezing my heart mercilessly. Breathe, Jun. Breathe. "Track her pendant. I made her wear it today." It has one of those tiny trackers we use on kids to keep track of their location.

"What’s happening? Where is Yiren?" Ning grabs my arm, her voice shaking.

"You tell me!" I snap. "She didn’t come with me only because you called her last minute and asked her to pick you up from home." Otherwise, she’d be with me right now. This last-minute change caught me off guard, and I could only provide her with a safe car and my best bodyguard. My entire team is somewhere else.

Dammit. I shouldn’t have let her out of my sight.

"I-I–" Ning looks at Kai, who has picked a corner and is fumbling with his shoes—god knows for what. "I’m sorry."

"You knew damn well how dangerous things have been lately, and Yiren would do anything you asked her to. Yet, you made a last-minute change and didn’t even acknowledge my request when I messaged you to change your plan." I didn’t want an argument between me and Yiren, so I messaged Ning only to never receive a reply, even when she had read it.

"Message?"

"Please. I don’t want to say anything I might regret later." I step aside, my anger boiling over, mixing with fear. I’m pissed. I’m terrified. Bloody Yifan. He has Yiren. He has my girl.

I watch Meimei work her magic on her laptop.

"This is weird. The tracker isn’t working as it should—what the fck? Someone is blocking me." Meimei runs her fingers over the laptop. "They must have found the tracker on her."

I don’t breathe. I can’t. I feel like my chest is being crushed, and all I can think about is Yiren, trapped somewhere, in pain. I promised I’d protect her. I’ll do anything, anything to get her back.

"Jun," Shishi presses, his voice tight with urgency. "We’ll find her. I’m calling Xion. Didn’t we ask him to send a team after her?"

"No need. I’m here." Xion strolls in, wearing his combat gear, followed by his team. He dashes straight to Kai and throws a punch, tossing him across the room.

"WHAT ARE YOU–" Ning stops at a distance, getting a death glare from Xion.

"Dare not come between me and my brother." Xion growls. My heart is still thundering from the shock, but I have an inkling Kai has a hand in this. Otherwise, Xion wouldn’t be doing this.

A strong stench of blood fills the room as a body bag is dropped in the center with a thud. On Xion’s order, his man opens the zip to reveal a dead body. "Brave of you to ask my man to get information on me. And stupid of him to give you that. Did you forget the price of betrayal in our world?"

"I don’t belong to your world." Kai chokes under Xion’s death grip on his throat. "I have my reasons to do it."

"What reason could it be that you sold your sister-in-law and betrayed your wife?"

"HE DID WHAT?" I dash, but I’m held back by Xion’s firm grip on my throat before I can even touch Kai.

"Only I get to touch my brother. If it’s someone else, I’ll fcking kill–"

"Think before you finish that sentence, X. Jun ain’t a nobody, and this is our turf you’re standing on." Shishi warns, pinning down one of Xion’s men on the floor in death grip.

Jianyu has already snatched a gun tucked at Xion’s waist, aiming it at his head. "Release. NOW."

"Hahaha, of course, the brotherly bond at its best. Touch one and everyone bites—" he lets out a hiss when I press the dagger into the small opening on the waist of his combat gear. "Not bad, Baby Feng. I anticipated Jianyu and Shishi’s move, but you caught me off guard."

"Don’t think I won’t kill you. Friendship be damned. I just want my wife back."

"And you won’t ever get her back without me. So go ahead, push that dagger deeper and see what happens."

"Relax, guys. Too much testosterone in the room. Put your weapons down." Suyin presses on Shishi’s shoulder. "This is not the time for this. Let him go. NOW."

"You heard her. Do it!" Meimei doesn’t look up from her laptop. "Kai might be your brother, X, but it looks like he did something he shouldn’t. And Yiren is in danger because of it. Speak up, Kai... you better do. There’s only so much we can control these brothers."

Kai looks at Ning and then at Xion, "Liam! They’ll kill my son and Papa had I refused the orders. Liam’s new nanny is a trained assassin. I had no choice!"

"KAI! Why didn’t you tell me! Liam—my baby—Papa—Yiren–" Ning rushes to him, "Is that why you deleted Jun’s message from my phone? Yes, I saw you checking it, but I didn’t pay any attention at that time."

Xion shows a picture on his phone, "Her?" Kai nods. "What do they want? Tell me everything. And why the Russian Mafia is involved in this?"

Bloody Russian Mafias who are as good with tech as me?" Xion subtly nods, and that’s what Meimei needed. She ditches her laptop, sprinting toward the door. "Understood. I know what I have to do now. Something is wrong. Daryl’s wife, Lilian’s family is the ruling Russian Mafia, and the current Pakhan is her nephew Viktor. I know him personally. Xion introduced me to him. "It’s not Viktor," My head snaps to the owner of the voice, and shock registers as Lilian walks into the room with Daryl in a wheelchair.
