Jun’s POV

Every penny I spent on this beautiful red silk dress is worth it. My girl looks no less than a shining star under the night sky. I can’t help but steal glances at her—no words can describe her beauty. She notices and sweeps her hair to one side, flaunting her bare back to me. My blood rushes straight to my groin. Dammit, she’s going to give me a boner in the middle of the party.

"I’m going to buy this dress in every color and rip it off you one by one while making love to you," I whisper, placing a possessive hand around her waist, making sure everyone knows who she belongs to—especially the group of men near the bar who are eyeing her like she’s a dessert.

"Jun! We’re in a party!" she hisses. But the blush on her cheeks screams she’s thinking about our last naughty night.

A visible change happens in her when Yifan heads our way, smirking as he looks over at the "gorgeous" car on display and then back at me.

"Sweetheart, don’t punch him right now. I promise I’ll let you later."

"Am I that obvious?"

I open her tightened fist. "Yes."

"Booo."

"I thought you wouldn’t come. But here you are," Yifan says dismissively, like he’s just won the lottery that was supposed to be mine. "And who is this lovely lady?" He offers his hand for a handshake, but Yiren looks at it once, then instead picks up a drink from the passing waiter, flashing him her gorgeous smile. The message is clear—she holds the waiter in higher regard than Yifan.

Attagirl.

Yifan’s jaw clenches as he pockets his extended hand. "So much attitude for a nobody."

"At least I own my attitude—what’s your excuse for that personality?"

"You are just his temporary--"

My hand went straight for his collar, "Careful how you finish that sentence. The sharks in the ocean are hungry enough they won’t even refuse the piece of rotten meat."

Yiren place a firm hand on my heart, "Not worth it."

His eyes narrow in a murderous glare as he checks her out, throwing a sneaky glance at the top floor. I notice it—he’s looking at his sister watching us through the window. Xion informed me she’s in the VIP suite.

He fixes his collar as I release him.

"So much anger. I’m sorry about Feng Enterprises’ shares hitting rock bottom. You should have accepted my offer." he sneers.

"Your offer?" I scoff. "Oh, you mean the comedy sketch you pitched? Still laughing."

Yiren makes a soft noise that sounds like a laugh but quickly tries to cover it with a cough.

The investors who pulled out of Feng Enterprises join him. "C’mon, Mr. Feng, don’t be salty. This is a business world. We favour the profits. And right now, it’s on Mr. Yang’s side."

"Exactly. And we heard you’re launching your car and team this season. Haven’t seen the launch party yet? Did the invites get lost in printing?"

"More like he knows his car’s going to sink Feng Enterprises’ ship, so he’s avoiding advertising it to save himself the embarrassment."

I turn to find Jason, Daryl’s son, standing with a drink in hand. I don’t like the way he’s eyeing Yiren, like she’s his target.

"Brothers? Someone mentioned us?"

"Suyin, Meimei!" Yiren ditches me in a heartbeat, shoving the champagne glass into my hand. She rushes to greet her girlfriends, hugging them like they’re long lost sisters.

Jianyu and Shishi join my side, and I can already feel the tension in everyone’s stance. Together, we’re unbeatable. A force to be reckoned.

"Just stating facts, Jianyu," Yifan tries to be bold, but can he? "Look at you and Dr. Wang, taking things to another level. And here’s Jun—"

"Is going to surpass us. In legacy and wealth both." Jianyu snaps. "And it’s Mr. Feng for you. Don’t forget, it took me less than 24 hours to take down your old company—the idea you stole from my brother. Otherwise you are not even capable to start a food cart."

"I wonder, is that car really made by you? Or did you steal it again?" I ask with a pointed stare.

There’s a flicker of doubt in the investors’ eyes. Even Jason’s expression shifts.

"W-what nonsense. You can’t slander a respectable businessman—"

"True. Jianyu, behave," Shishi steps between us, her tone firm. "I’m sure Yifan can answer every question about the technicals of the car. Right, Yifan?"

I glance at the girls’ gang, who are inspecting the displayed F1 car, barely holding back their laughter.

I wink at them.

"Nice car! Can you tell me about its KERS, Mr. Yang?"

Meimei, a genius scientist and car enthusiast, goes straight for the kill.

"I’d like to know more about the aerodynamics. These front wing arrangements—what’s their effect?" Suyin, another car enthusiast, chimes in.

Yiren blinks, "The cockpit ergonomics look different. How is it designed to enhance driver feedback and control?"

RIP Yifan.

My girls are out for the kill.

Our little ruse has put Yifan in the center of attention, with all eyes on him. And him? Silence.

"C-confidential. I won’t answer." Yifan stammers.

"Won’t or can’t?" I sip Yiren’s ditched champagne, savoring the moment.

"Won’t," he hisses.

I lean in, whispering, "Fifteen laps. Good luck." He looks at me confused, but I don’t explain. He’ll understand on race day.

"Let’s not waste time on useless things." Sensing Yifan is cornered, Jason gestures for the cameraman. "It’s time we take some pictures for the press. The media reps are waiting."

I pull Yiren to my side, stepping aside from the camera flashes. Jianyu and Shishi do the same with their wives. But not before Jianyu addresses the ex-investors of Feng Enterprises, "Thanks for selling us those shares. We got them for cheap."

Yiren’s pov

Jun left me alone to take an urgent phone call. This man is too much. He isn’t leaving my side afraid of what ifs. I want to close this mystery and get done with it, but how am I do that when he isn’t letting me dangle myself in front of Yifan like a carrot.

"No Aunty, no new update." A woman’s voice comes from behind me where I’m sitting with Meimei and Suyin.

"This is the hundredth time you asked me. I’m tired of it. Maybe Kristy went somewhere with her new boyfriend." Says the woman in a high-pitched voice that’s too much familiar to me.

Valentina.

So Kristy--- isn’t that Monika’s daughter who stole my Central Park project?

Kristy and Valentina—that piques my interest. I look over my shoulder, she’s talking on the phone.

"I know it’s been three months since she vanished, but what else can I do? I asked all the people in our circle, including Mr Yang."

Is that Yifan she referring to? How is he connected to this?

And why is Valentina here?

Shouldn’t she be in New York?

"No, I still don’t know who was her boyfriend. Kristy never told us. Aunty I gotta go, Mr. Yang is asking for me, I’m at a company party. Bye."

With an exaggerated sigh, she cut off the call, leaving me with lots of questions.

I excuse myself and walk away to the secluded corner of the cruise, making sure Valentina sees me as I pass.

Surely a minute later I hear sound of heels behind me.
