If you don’t stop right now, I’ll– I’ll–" Yiren looks around and picks up Bear’s chu-chu toy that I hate for its ridiculous sound. "I’ll hit you with it."

"Please do it. I wish it breaks so that I don’t have to hear that annoying sound again."

She huffs, gaze darting between Bear and me as if asking him to say something. Bear barks, snatches the toy from Yiren’s hand, and runs out the door with a sass only he can carry. A clear message: You’re on your own, hoomans. Don’t drag me or my toy into husband-wife mess.

"Yiren, baby–"

"Don’t baby me. I’m absolutely fine."

"Four broken ribs, a concussion, a six-inch-deep cut on your arm, a disjointed thumb, hairline fracture on your wrist, blood clot in your right eye, countless bruises, and an ankle sprain."

"That was three weeks ago! Dr. Wang Shi gave me clearance last week. Stop being a mumma bear."

"But that doesn’t mean climbing a ladder to get things from the top shelf is on the table."

"So is bending to pick things up, cooking, gardening, walking fast or running, taking a bath alone, picking Bear up in my arms, kissing you for more than five seconds, and having sex?"

I gulp. "How about we wait one more month? Just 30 days—"

"Feng Junjie, I’ll serve you divorce before that."

Oops. She’s angry. More so, because I thwarted her initiative for sex last night. I helped her get off twice, but then she demanded more—and that’s where I drew the line. Not like I don’t want it. Hell, I’m fucking dying for that physical connection with her, but—

A tear rolls down her cheek, stabbing straight into my heart.

"Bunny, don’t cry, please." With three long strides, I close the distance between us and wrap my arms around her, trapping her.

It looks like I’m not getting out of this easily. She’s been making advances since she got the clear from Shishi, but I’m not convinced she’s fine. Hell, the events of that day still scare the hell out of me.

I wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, dreaming the worst—that we failed to save her that day. It’s only when I feel her warmth by my side and pull her into my arms that I’m able to get back to sleep.

When Xion airlifted us that day, the magnitude of her injuries hit me when she fell unconscious mid-air.

Shishi had to pump two pints of blood back into her to cover the blood loss, yet she remained unconscious for three days, scaring the hell out of me. I saw my entire life flash in front of my eyes during those three days.

I’m still uncomfortable letting her out of my sight for more than five minutes. And somewhere, she isn’t willing either—her gaze keeps looking for me, just for assurance.

I’m not going anywhere. Never.

All we’ve been doing these past three weeks is resting and soaking into each other. Eating, watching Disney movies, sharing childhood stories, and endless banter.

Bear understood the assignment—that something’s wrong in the house—and has become our ray of sunshine, warming our hearts with his cuteness.

She opens her mouth to give a sassy comment, but I slam my lips on hers, sliding my tongue along the seam of her lips.

She lets me in and melts, fluttering her tongue against mine.

I count to ten and then pull away. From five seconds to ten. Progress. Trust me, my body is aching for her real bad—driving me insane. She has literally wrapped me and Bear around her pinky.

"That’s all you’re getting for now. We’ll do more after the next check-up."

"But bro Shishi said I can start doing less strenuous activity."

She squeals when I tickle her waist. "Attention to the words: less strenuous activity. He was decent enough not to embarrass you with the word ’sex.’" Her mouth twitches.

"Plus, my shoulder still hurts. I need rest."

I lie. My shoulder is absolutely fine. It wasn’t a fracture but a dislocation. Shishi fixed it and advised wearing support for two weeks. The rest were just bruises and cuts—nothing serious.

My parents are calling us for dinner, but I’m canceling it. And when I cancel, it gets canceled altogether. I know they’re doing it for me and Yiren, but I just don’t want to go beyond the four walls of this property.

I still have a lot of things pending... have to meet important people, sort a few things...

But none of that matters.Right now, it’s all Yiren.

Thankfully, my family takes care of the business without me even asking. Dad is helping Jianyu share the added burden of my work, Mom stops by the house daily to check on us and bring freshly made herbal soup for faster recovery. Meimei picks the kids up from school and brings them straight here to us to get our daily dose of laughter and love—our favorite time of the day that we look forward to every day.

Zian and Vivian stop by daily to update Yiren on the progress of her ongoing projects, as the team is reporting to Vivian instead of Yiren. That visit is Bear’s favorite because his girlfriend also comes with Vivian.

Then in the evening, Shishi and Suyin join us to check on us and always—like always—bring takeout boxes from a new restaurant for us to try. We love their visits, but that’s also the saddest part of the day, because they take the kids back.

My family is crazy, mad, protective, and best But I wouldn’t have them any other way. Dare say a thing against them, I’ll break your face.

I’m glad Yiren adds more to this madness. Her papa, Ning, little Liam... I won’t add Kai. I’m still pissed. Yiren might forgive him, saying he did it for his family, but I’m still not okay. He had the option of telling Xion, but he chose his ego over it and put Yiren in danger.

Ning wants a break from the relationship, but Yiren talks her out of it. More so now that Ning finds out about her second pregnancy. At least this brings Kai on talking terms with Xion. He saved his son’s life.

"On one condition."

"Whatever it is, I agree. 100%. No ifs and buts. Please take me to Mom and Dad." Her eyes shine. I love how much she has fallen in love with my family—especially Mom and Dad. They just need official adoption papers to make Yiren their daughter instead of daughter-in-law.

"You won’t stress your body, and we will return early as you have medicines to take."

"That’s two conditions." She pouts and then immediately surrenders when I raise my eyebrow. "Fine. You win. Daddy Jun is my favorite only in the bedroom. Outside it, he is a bully."

Before I can tickle her, the phone rings, and she slips out of my embrace. It must be from the hospital. Daily, her papa calls her from the hospital to give her updates on his health and to ease Yiren’s mind. Due to his existing heart condition, he needs to stay longer for full recovery.

I go to the kitchen to heat the soup Mom brought us in the morning and prepare Bear’s food. He peeks from the corner to check. I whistle and wave his favorite treat, and he runs in, jumping. Once the food is in his bowl and Cocomelon is switched on the television, he turns off the world around him.

"Uncle Juju!"

Yiren and I simultaneously turn and run for the door.

Our little tornados are here—short in height but full of life. Yiren often says that they remind her of the time we spent together in New York.

Yuyu and Lan compete to see who’ll make it to my embrace first. They throw their school bags at the door and jump straight at me. Yuyu wins, but I pull Lan too. Honey, as usual, goes straight for Yiren to give her a tight hug. He goes on to ask if she has taken her medicines, at which Yiren rolls her eyes, grumbling something about men of this family.

Due to past experiences, it’s hard for Honey to trust a woman. He never accepted Hong. I used to think if he’d ever accept my girl (if I found one), but with Yiren it was never a problem. Something about Yiren speaks to him, and he accepts her.

"We ordered pizza! Who wants to eat?"

Three hands go up in the air, and everyone runs inside the house. I go to pick my newest favorite kid from Meimei’s embrace—little Xion—and kiss his chubby cheeks. He turns and rubs his drooly lips aggressively on my cheek.

Yiren calls them Nom-nom kisses.

I love Nom-nom kisses.

"Look how much XION loves you," Meimei emphasizes the name Xion.

I groan. "Just why do you name him that?" Xion is on cloud nine, constantly reminding everyone on our group chat that Meimei named her son after him.

The role of Xion in Meimei’s life is beyond words. Inwardly, we’re happy—but let’s just accept, Xion is a pain in the ass.

"Mr. Daryl and Lilliana requested a meeting with you," Meimei changes the topic, following us into the house.

"They can fuc—" I bite my tongue before I can curse in front of four kids. "Not interested."I know why they want to meet. They finally decide I’m worthy to buy their company. Should I feel privileged?

I might have lost the race that day, but my car came into the eyes of many. And then somehow, a very crucial piece of information was leaked to the press about why Zeng stayed behind Yifan’s racer even though it was clear on the camera he could have raced ahead.

I bring the spoon to my tongue to taste the seasoning, adding more pepper just how Yiren prefers, before bringing it to the living room where everyone is hogging on cheese burst pizza.

Bear ditches watching Cocomelon and brings his bowl to the kids, demanding. They nit-pick the veggies and add them to Bear’s bowl, along with the extra-large slice.

"Did you find out how the information of Yiren’s kidnapping was leaked to the media?" I ask Meimei, bouncing Little Xion on my knees. She steals a glance at Yiren and purses her lips while Yiren keeps her gaze in the soup bowl, looking for an imaginary fly maybe. "Stop the drama. I know it’s you."

Damn, I can’t even get angry at them. They did it for me, after all. Since the media knew of Yiren’s kidnapping, we had to feed a fake narrative to them about Yifan’s death—that he was shot down by the cops when he was trying to escape. Can’t disclose anything about the Russian Mafia and all. Nothing money and power can’t fix.

"It will give the kick-start to your dream project. Meet them and be done with it," Yiren says.

"They saved their asshol—son." Viktor killed his uncle. But Lilliana didn’t let him kill Jason. They might have grounded him for life on a secluded island, but if it comes to me, I’d wring his neck for being part of all this.

"Buying the company is a worse form of revenge than an easy death. Jason always wanted it, and now it can be yours." Yiren puts the soup bowl down and turns to give me her full attention. "I want it to be yours."
