JUN’S POV

Yiren and I have found a comfortable pace again in this relationship which is not a relationship. But as per her demands, I’ve given her a different room and no sex, no kisses... but that doesn’t mean I can’t show my affection in my own way. Every morning, I still steal her coffee and land a kiss on her temple, savoring the way she gets flustered by it. I know she loves it when I do that—and truthfully, I do too. It’s my favorite start to the day, and I know it’s hers too.

She always smiles guys!

It’s been two weeks since I talked about our feelings, and she’s mostly flustered, constantly wondering what I’ll do next. After all, I promised her I’d be dating her... but sweetheart, not when you expect it. That’s not my style. I like to keep her on her toes, enjoy her confusion, relish in the little moments where she wonders if I’m about to cross a line- like last night we go on a drive to have ice-cream and while leaning to buckle the seatbelt she thought I was about to kiss her and closed her eyes in anticipation.

Cute.

But I didn’t kiss her.

Nope.

But right now, I have more pressing matters to attend to. I got an urgent call from Xion this morning, ordering me to come to his den right away. Normally, I would’ve ignored his ass, but when he mentioned it was something about Yiren, that was enough to get me moving. The bastard knows his game.

Xion’s den is deep in the lush forest, hidden from the world. It’s underground, tucked away in a place where only his trusted people are allowed to go. You’d expect it to smell of blood, decaying bodies, and rot, but no. It’s a place built for a king, one that’s a clean freak at heart and loves his pristine white clothes, despite his dark methods.

His men escort me through the thick, damp air, leading me to the part of the den where he does his "dirty work." It’s the part of the place designed by the devil himself, the kind of room that would send a normal human pissing their pants just at the sight of it. The dreaded torture chamber. Once you are here, you are dead.

Even I can feel the weight of the place, the darkness it holds within its walls.

Xion is sitting in the steel chamber, on his throne, his eyes cold as he watches through the glass wall at the man suspended by chains, blood dripping onto the floor. The steel chamber looks like straight out of movie, the walls adorned with every kind of gruesome torture device, some of them from ancient times. It’s a place that’s meant to break a man, to leave nothing but fear and regret in its wake.

In the corner, an old man sits stoically, his face unreadable as he waits for Xion’s instructions. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

"Man, you left me nothing to do," A man brings a chair and places it next to him. "I planned a boxing match with him."

"I haven’t done much," Xion continues, a hint of amusement in his voice. "Feel free to make use of the steel chamber. I can arrange boxing gloves for you." He pours me a glass of whiskey, but I refuse it.

"I have a meeting in two hours," I reply, my voice low, impatient. "Come to the point."

Xion motions at the old man, who begins to ruffle through a selection of weapons. He pick one, tilted his head and then put it down. Pick another, pout and then again put it down.

Erie.

Then he pick a pair of piers, frowns at it, looks at Chris and smiled menacingly.

Psycho.

He walks over to Chris, who is hanging there, bloodied and unconscious, though his chest still rises and falls.

The old man bends down, his fingers closing around one of Chris’s nails, and with a quick yank, he pulls it free and holds the bloodied nail at the glass window, showing us proudly.

Creepy.

Chris lets out a gut-wrenching howl, thrashing against the chains in a desperate attempt to escape the pain. I wince internally, but I don’t let my expression shift. This is Xion’s way of getting answers, and it’s effective—no one can withstand this forever. No wonder Meimei is prohibited from coming here even though she’s granddaughter of ex king of the underworld.

Xion’s expression doesn’t change, "Repeat," he says calmly, his voice cutting through the howls of pain.

The old man, with his unnerving precision, moves to the next nail, ignoring Chris’s desperate cries.

"Don’t... please," Chris whimpers, shaking as he thrashes against the chains, trying to break free. "I... I was given Yiren’s details."

I frown, leaning forward slightly. "Who?" My voice echoes in the steel chamber, sharp and demanding.

"Y-Yifan," Chris stammers, his eyes wide with fear. "He promised to invest in my company and save it from bankruptcy if I could successfully drive her away from you."

I feel a cold ripple of unease creep up my spine. "Why? What does he want from her?"

"I... I don’t know," Chris stutters, his body trembling. "He didn’t tell me what he wanted from her. But it was Yifan who told me where I’ll find her and how I can get into the restaurant."

I nod at the old man, a silent command. Without hesitation, the old man yanks another nail from Chris’s finger. Chris screams, his voice raw and desperate.

"Trust me," he cries out, his voice cracking. "I don’t know anything. My company is on the verge of bankruptcy, and I was just trying to save it. I-I won’t ever look at Yiren again, please, just let me go."

"Is that all you know about Yifan?" I ask, my voice colder now.

"It was him," he stammers, his voice barely a whisper. "It was him who was behind Ning’s accident."

My blood runs cold. The words hang in the air, thick with betrayal and malice. Ning’s accident—the one that nearly killed her.

But why would Yifan be after Yiren? Why would he try to kill Ning? I remember it was much before I even told Yiren about my car.

Xion looks at me, "That’s what you came for," he says, as if everything that’s just been revealed is part of some sick game. But I don’t feel like playing anymore.
