Dammit. This ain’t any good.

The room falls silent for a moment, and I can feel the weight of the news. We can’t afford to let Daryl slip through our fingers. Not now, not when everything is hanging by a thread.

His son, Jason, isn’t capable of handling a company as big as this as he’s a drug addict—that’s the reason Daryl was selling it, to let his legacy be passed to someone capable instead of his son. I meet everyone’s gaze. "This is not a coincidence."

"No, it’s not. They made a move," Xion says, already speed dialing. "New York. Thirty minutes. Driver is picking you up from the den." He hangs up and looks at me. "You too. Leave. I’m sending my personal doctor."

His team doctor is a genius mad doctor, unmatchable. No one questions his capabilities. Even bro Shishi bows to him.

"But I’m not sure they will let our doctor see Daryl." Shishi says, "I’ll send my team just in case."

She gets in with me and hits T. I expect her to say something, but she grabs my hand and stays by my side.

"Ok." I hang her bag over my shoulder. "Do you want to say something else?"

"Thinking what?"

I suppress a smile, hoping I don’t break this moment. "Say what?"

The familiar ding tells me we’re on the terrace, and the sound of the chopper and strong wind greets us as the elevator door opens.

"Will you say it? Or—"

She presses the button to close the elevator, ensuring we have privacy and less noise disturbance. I stare at her back.

Then she turns, and slams her lips on mine, taking me in a feisty kiss. Like REALLY FIESTY! The wildest of wild kiss, where I have no opening to take over. Her tongue fights with mine, her other hand fisting around my hair, directing my head.

This taste, the softness of her mouth, the little moans—damn, I was missing it so much! She’s addictive. She’s everything.

She pulls away, our breaths heaving as we stay in each other’s embrace...

"Is this your way of coaxing me now that I’m close to losing—"

Her palm came on my lips like a slap, stinging and painful.

My throat constrict with emotions. I have seen my family saying words to cheer me, to boost my confidence.... But never outside it. She’s the only one who has seen me more then I see myself.

I bit my lips, the last thing I want is to get emotional.

So this is why my brothers went crazy for their women and chased them no matter the challenges— because my sister in laws made them feel what Yiren is making me feel.

The elevator door opens, and we both step out. My eyes are on her as I boarded the chopper, seeing her pretty face, her smile....

My gaze not leaving hers....

And then I see her taking her phone out and answering it. With one had she’s trying to tame her hair, and with the other holding phone.

"Sir, we are about to take off. Please fasten the seat belt and put ear muffs on."

I look back at Yiren, only to catch her running at the elevator. I try to catch her one last glimpse, but she is too busy on phone that she didn’t look.

YIREN’S POV

I’m running. I didn’t even stop to grab my bag from the office, just heading straight for the lift and then down to the parking garage to get to my car. My heart is pounding, adrenaline coursing through my veins.

I just prayed it is not as serious as my engineer Tang Levi said.

My biggest project. Suyin’s lake house has caught a massive fire.

My biggest concern is those 300 workers working on the construction site. They have family, kids....
