Yiren’s pov

I run at him, slamming the glass with my fists. "Papa!"

"Try anything and your papa dies a painful death. I know how much you love him."

Before I can process his words, water begins flooding the chambers.

"No. No! STOP IT! PLEASE, STOP IT!" The water is filling fast. Papa thrashes, gasping, chest heaving. His water phobia kicks in, sending him into a full-blown panic. I slam the glass again and again, powerless. Helpless.

"Will you sign?"

"Y–Yes!"

I grab the file from the floor with shaking hands, wipe the blood from the pen on my clothes, and scrawl my name beside Ning’s. "Here! I don’t care about the money—just let us go!"

Yifan slides the remote back into his pocket. I hold my breath as the water halts—only in Papa’s chamber.

But Valentina’s continues to fill.

He paces like a caged animal now, chest heaving.

His eyes gleam with madness.

If this were a different moment, I’d laugh in his face. Call him the pathetic parasite he is. But now—

An ear-splitting explosion rocks the building. The walls tremble. Sirens blare.

Then he bends, pulls out a blue plastic canister from under the table, and unscrews the cap. The stench of petrol hits me like ice water to the face.

"No—" I back up, but it’s too late.

He throws the liquid in my face, soaking my clothes, my skin. My nose burns, eyes sting. He douses the walls, the floor, the windows—painting the room in gasoline.

"You have the option to run," he sneers, lifting the remote again, thumb hovering over the red button. "But do you want to?"

"NO!"

I lunge.

His boot slams into my torso like a sledgehammer. CRACK.

Air rushes out of me—I slam onto my back, gasping.

From the corner of my eye, I see—

The water’s rising again.

Papa.

He’s in the chamber. The level creeps higher.

I twist on the floor. "Papa!"

Yifan follows my gaze, then smirks—and with a casual flick of his wrist, smashes the remote to pieces on the floor.

He pulls a lighter from his pocket. Click. A small flame flickers, the promise of death dancing in his fingers.

He leans close to my face, eyes glinting with sadistic joy.

"You won’t leave without your old man. And Jun? He won’t leave without you."

He brings the flame closer.

"Death for everyone."

He wish.

I rear my head back and slam my forehead into his nose with every ounce of strength I have.

CRUNCH.

"ARGHH—BITCH!" he screams, blood gushing as he stumbles back, crashing flat onto his ass. The lighter spins out of his hand. I kick at the gun too—it slide under the table, out of reach.

I crawl forward fast and climb on top of him, fists flying—punching, scratching, clawing and rubbing petrol from my clothes to his. I grab the pen and stab him.

"THEN YOU’RE DYING WITH US!"
