Yiren’s POV continues

Dressed to kill.If someone wants to understand the real meaning of the words, they should look at Jun today. He sits at the head of the huge table in the conference room like it had been carved for him.

The Tom Ford suit—dark, pristine, unforgiving. Every thread, every crease screams power. His jaw is set, eyes on the couple in front, and his presence swallows the oxygen in the room.

His cufflinks catch the light as he places a hand on my shaking leg. His eyes instantly turn warm when he looks at me before resuming his intimidating stance.

I look down at his hand on my bare thigh—assurance, love, and safety. The car-shaped cufflinks, crafted from solid platinum—a symbol of the company he built with bare hands and sheer will when everyone said he was just another rich boy with nothing special. The pink diamonds embedded in the headlights? A piece of family jewel passed on to the brothers. Heritage. Passing a message: he might have inherited money, but he has his own identity as well.

Daryll sits stiffly across the table, trying to play composed, but his eyes betray him as he reads the documents—shifty, uncertain, defeated. His wife, Lilian, is beside him, all designer, but gone is her old confidence. I can see the shame in her eyes as she avoids eye contact with us.

"Jun, this price," Daryll puts the contract down. "Thirty percent below the company’s worth? You can’t be serious. We both know what I built here."

I watch Jun smile—slow and calculating. Hot."You built a brand and reputation," Jun says evenly, "and let your son ruin it. This price is a favor."

Daryll stiffens. "It’s still worth—"

"No," Jun snaps. I squeeze his hand on my thigh. "It was worth more before your son pissed me off by colluding with Yifan to kidnap Yiren and steal her inheritance. No one wants to touch your company now, and we both know why."

There’s a rumor in the business world about two powerful ’businessmen’ looking for Jason. Viktor and Xion. The intelligent ones know who these two really are and don’t want to be associated with Jason or his family in any way.

The fact is Jun asked Viktor and Xion to do that as part of the deal when he sold them my inheritance. Having a gold mine was too dangerous, so we sold it to the two men no one in this world can dare mess with. Ning and I receive the kind of money that people can only dream about. I might not be as rich as my husband, but I’m a billionaire now! Though I’m yet to figure out what I want to do with that money. Right now the number of zeroes only scares me.

I hold Daryll’s gaze as his face pales. His wife shifts slightly, uncomfortable now. As she should be.

Lilian’s mouth opens slightly. No words come.

Jun leans forward. "The only reason your son is still breathing is because your wife cashed in the family card being the daughter of old Pakhan. But my eyes are always on Jason, and if you ever try to free him from that island—"

His pen clicks once. Words hang incomplete. Then silence."No more negotiations," he says. "This is my offer. Take it—or watch everything burn."

I watch Daryll, who had always mocked my husband, sit frozen in his chair—without an argument he signs with Jun’s pen.

And when the final signature hits the paper and Jun’s assistant brings the file to him, he glances at me. Just a flicker. Just enough.

"Will you tell me where you are taking me?"

The date! I know this is THE MUCH AWAITED DATE but oh come on, I deserve to know where he is flying me.

Jun throws a hand around my shoulder and tucks me close to his naked chest. Sex on the plane? Yeah, we are officially in the mile-high club now.

I look up when he doesn’t reply and groan. Here I am, looking like a beggar—a mess of tangled hair, smudged mascara, and hoarse voice—and he is brimming with the vitality of a well-satisfied male. Not fair.

And that charming smile on his lips instead of an answer... just kill me. I can’t even say I don’t like it.

"Are you even listening to me–"

He slams his lips to mine, killing the words and mushing my brain.

Bear darts inside even before the door is fully opened, ready to explore the place. But I’m rooted. I expected it to be redesigned or vacant by now... but what I walk into is our childhood preserved perfectly. Not a thing out of place. The 90’s style design, the old phone, the paintings, the couch....

I might have traveled through a time machine to get back in time.

Jun wraps a hand around my waist and tugs me close, "Jianyu’s gift for our wedding."

"How did he manage to keep it so—clean? Preserved?" Other than kitchen appliances, everything is from the 90s.

He shrugs. "Monthly cleaning. The instructions were not to erase the time and memories... just clean and make sure everything is in working condition."

"H-he didn’t change a thing here," my voice comes out choked when I see Jun’s old cycle, now rusted, parked in the corner near the open deck. We used to fight over it a lot. Later, mom bought one as well but the fight never stopped. His was better, and I wanted that.

It makes me laugh as we stand there staring at it. Jun trails a finger over the words written on its neck: ’Property of Jun.’ Then he turns to the other side, repeating, ’Property of Yiren.’ I did that in revenge. Got scolded and locked up in the storeroom by mom. She didn’t even give me food that day.

"Why did you sneak the bar of chocolate from under the door that day? Wasn’t I your enemy?" Did that change our equation? No.

"Saw mom crying and skipping dinner. It was for her."

I turn to him, out of words. Me and Ning, we loved our mom—she was our mother, after all. But Jun? His love was beyond ours.

"Thank you."

"For what?"

I hook my arm around his neck, feeling him lift me enough so that I’m standing on his shoes. "Um... for the bar of chocolate?"

He nods, our noses rubbing. "I licked it before passing it to you." I gasp, my jaw drops, and he lets out a laugh so loud that Bear comes running to check on us.

"Meanie. I hate you."

"And I love you. Sorry about the licked chocolate. You can punish me later by spanking my ass."

My cheeks turn bright red. This man. Jeez. Impossible. He doesn’t give a flying fuck about anything. He is genuine, full of life, and shameless through and through.

I’ll fight the world if anyone tries to change him. I want him just how he is. A man with a child still inside him.

The loud clearing of a throat startles us. He puts me down.

"Hey, James. Were you snooping on us?"

"Can’t call it snooping when you are authorized to be here." James ignores Jun, moving in to kiss both my cheeks. "Bonjour, Madame."

Is it rude to ask him to sign a cookbook for me?

"I’m your huge fan. Will you—"

A throat clears again, and James and I turn to see Jun staring daggers at us.

"How are Evan and Bella?" Jun grins at me. "Talking about his husband and daughter."

James rolls his eyes, muttering something in French, to which Jun scratches his jaw with his middle finger.

"They are doing good, thank you." James copies the motion and scratches his nose with his middle finger. "We are ready for dinner."

"Ten minutes."

I shake my head... and sometimes, this man exhausts me as well.
