The clearing fell into complete silence, as if the world itself had paused. No one moved, and even the hunters seemed unsure whether to breathe.

Ariana hovered above the ground once more, surrounded by blazing golden light. The energy spread outward in steady waves, distorting the air around her. Behind her, a vast shape formed from the light, resembling wings, while above her head, a crown of fire burned with quiet intensity. It did not flicker like ordinary flames. It held, steady and deliberate, as if it belonged there.

Cassian stared up at her, the usual amusement in his expression fading into something sharper. "Well," he said quietly, "that’s definitely new." Around him, the hunters shifted uneasily, their earlier confidence gone. Even the High Alpha stepped back, his massive white wolf form lowering slightly as his blue eyes remained fixed on her.

Kael dropped briefly to one knee before shifting back into human form. Blood ran down the side of his neck where the High Alpha’s fangs had grazed him, but he ignored it completely. His focus remained on Ariana, unwavering despite everything. "Ariana..." he said, his voice lower now, more careful.

She did not respond. Her golden eyes burned brighter than before, no longer wild or unfocused, but steady in a way that felt unfamiliar. The power around her expanded across the clearing, pressing against everything in its path, and for the first time, it did not feel unstable. It felt certain.

The winged guardian stepped forward slowly, its silver eyes filled with disbelief. "It’s real," it said. Cassian glanced at it. "What is?" The guardian did not look away from Ariana. "The Sovereign." The word settled heavily in the air, and several hunters stiffened at once. Even the High Alpha’s expression darkened.

"That title was erased centuries ago," he said. The guardian’s voice remained steady. "Apparently not."

Ariana felt something shift inside her mind. At first, it was faint, almost unnoticeable, but then the sensation grew stronger. Voices rose, distant and overlapping, too many to follow. They were not speaking clearly, but they were there. Images followed, flashes of places she had never seen, battles she had never fought, creatures bowing before someone surrounded by the same golden light. Her chest tightened as the weight of it pressed in. "What is happening to me?" she whispered.

The wings behind her flickered, unstable now. Kael stepped closer, careful but determined. "You’re awakening," he said. She shook her head slightly, panic breaking through. "I don’t want this." "You don’t get to choose it," he replied quietly, "but you won’t face it alone."

The High Alpha stepped forward again, now in human form, his presence heavy as he studied her with a new kind of focus. "If this is true," he said, "then everything we believed about the Fifth Blood is wrong." Cassian crossed his arms, watching with interest. "Not wrong," he said. "Just incomplete." The High Alpha turned toward him. "Explain." Cassian gestured toward Ariana. "According to the oldest records, the Fifth Blood was never just a bloodline. It was a throne."

The guardian nodded once. "A throne meant to rule all supernatural races." A murmur spread through the clearing, unease turning into something closer to fear. "That throne was destroyed," the High Alpha said. Cassian smiled faintly. "Apparently not." Ariana’s breathing became uneven. "I don’t want to rule anyone." The guardian stepped closer. "You don’t have a choice. You were born for it."

Kael moved instantly, placing himself slightly closer to her. "She’s not ruling anything." The guardian’s gaze shifted to him. "You cannot stop destiny." "Watch me." The High Alpha studied Kael carefully. "You’re willing to challenge the entire council for her?" "Yes." The answer came without hesitation, and that alone shifted the tension in the clearing.

Then the golden light around Ariana flickered. The wings behind her trembled, and the steady control she had just gained began to slip. Her breathing grew uneven again, faster now, harder to control. Kael stepped forward immediately. "Ariana?" She shook slightly, her hands tightening at her sides as the voices in her mind grew louder, pressing in from all directions until it was impossible to separate them. "I can’t..." she said weakly.

Kael moved closer. "Look at me." Her eyes found his, and for a moment, the fear there was unmistakable. "Kael... I can’t control it." A sharp cracking sound echoed through the clearing as the crown above her head began to fracture. The guardian’s expression darkened. "That’s not good."

The light around her pulled inward suddenly, compressing into something too dense to hold. Ariana screamed as the pressure built, her body shaking under the strain. Then it burst outward again, stronger than before. Kael ran toward her without hesitation. "Ariana!" He reached her just as the light began to expand again, and for a brief moment, their eyes met. She looked terrified.

Then the energy exploded.

A shockwave tore through the clearing, snapping trees and throwing hunters backward. Even the High Alpha was forced off balance as the ground cracked beneath them. The light flared once more, blinding and absolute.

Then everything went still.

When the light faded, Ariana was gone.

Kael looked around immediately, panic rising in a way he could not suppress. "No..." The clearing remained silent, the absence heavier than the chaos that had come before. The guardian stepped forward, scanning the empty space. "She’s not here."

Cassian exhaled slowly. "That’s inconvenient."

Kael turned sharply, his voice harder now. "Where is she?" The guardian lifted its gaze toward the sky, its expression more serious than before. "She didn’t disappear." Kael’s chest tightened. "Then where did she go?" The guardian answered quietly.

"She was taken."

The High Alpha’s eyes narrowed. "By who?" The guardian looked directly at him. "The ones who have been waiting for the Sovereign to awaken."

Kael’s stomach dropped. "Who?" The guardian’s wings shifted slowly.

"The original bloodline."

The clearing went silent again. Cassian blinked. "That bloodline is extinct." The guardian shook its head.

"No."

It paused before finishing.

"They’ve been hiding."

"And now they have her."
