Ariana’s hand remained lifted toward the shadows, her arm trembling as if something beyond her control was guiding it. Kael tightened his hold on her immediately, pulling her closer as the movement sent a sharp tension through the clearing.

"Ariana," he said, his voice lower now but steady. "Don’t."

Her fingers twitched, resisting him for a second before tightening weakly against his arm again. The darkness along her skin pulsed unevenly, no longer spreading as quickly, but not retreating either.

From the shadows, Vaelor’s presence sharpened, the pressure in the clearing shifting in response. "You feel it now," the entity said, calm and certain. "The direction was never yours to choose."

Kael’s jaw tightened as he kept his focus on Ariana. "Stay out of her," he said. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

"Out of her?" Vaelor repeated, almost amused. "She was never outside of me."

The words settled heavily, and the air seemed to pull inward again, tightening around the center of the clearing. Before Kael could answer, Cassian stepped forward.

It wasn’t a fast movement, but the moment he moved, the space reacted. The tension didn’t spike like it did with Kael or Vaelor, but instead narrowed, as if the chaos was being forced into a tighter, more controlled shape.

"That’s enough," Cassian said.

Vaelor didn’t laugh this time. "You do not decide that."

Cassian stopped a few steps away from Kael and Ariana, his gaze fixed on her lifted hand. "No," he said calmly, "but I decide how far this goes."

Mira’s attention snapped toward him, her expression hardening. "You will not do anything unless you explain it first."

Cassian didn’t look at her. "If I explain it, you will try to stop it."

"Then give me a reason not to."

Cassian finally shifted his gaze slightly toward her. "Because you cannot control this anymore."

Mira didn’t answer, but the tension in her stance sharpened.

Kyrindor stepped forward, his presence pressing deeper into the domain as the ground steadied further beneath them. "You are not part of this cycle," he said. "Your interference will break what remains."

Cassian’s attention moved to him, measured and calm. "It already broke," he replied. "You are just holding the pieces in place."

That landed harder than anything else.

Kael didn’t look at them. His focus remained entirely on Ariana as her breathing changed again, slower now but uneven, like her body was trying to settle into something it didn’t understand.

"Ariana," he said quietly.

Her head tilted slightly toward him, and for a brief moment her eyes flickered again. "Kael..." she said, her voice softer now but still carrying that faint echo.

"I’m here," he answered immediately.

Her fingers tightened against his arm again, but the hand that had lifted toward the shadows didn’t lower. It remained suspended, trembling as if something else was still pulling at it.

Cassian watched that movement closely. "She is still responding," he said.

"To him," Mira added quickly.

"To both," Cassian corrected.

The air shifted again as Vaelor’s presence deepened, not spreading, but concentrating toward Ariana. The shadows at the edge of the clearing thickened, drawing inward like something moving closer without crossing the distance.

"She is aligning," Vaelor said.

Kael’s head snapped toward the shadows. "Say that again."

Cassian answered instead. "It means she is not resisting in the way you think."

"That’s not true," Kael said immediately. "She’s still fighting."

"She is," Cassian said, his gaze steady. "But she is also being pulled into something that does not require her consent to finish."

Kael’s grip tightened.

Ariana’s hand trembled again, then shifted slightly, not toward him but toward the shadows. Kael reacted instantly, catching her wrist and forcing it down before the movement could continue.

The moment he did, the pressure between them surged again, sharp and immediate. Ariana gasped as the darkness flared beneath her skin, the reaction stronger for being interrupted.

Mira moved at once, silver light cutting between them to contain the surge. "You are forcing it," she said sharply.

"I’m stopping it," Kael answered.

"You are accelerating it."

Kael ignored her and pulled Ariana’s attention back toward him. "Look at me," he said, his voice firmer now.

Her eyes flickered again, and for a brief second something clear broke through. "Don’t let it..." she started, her voice catching as the words failed. Her body went rigid.

The darkness surged again, not outward this time, but inward, tightening around her chest like something locking into place. The ground beneath her cracked under the pressure as the air compressed sharply.

"She’s locking in," Mira said.

Cassian stepped forward.Mira moved to block him instantly. "You will not touch her."

Cassian stopped, not because he had to, but because he chose to. "If I don’t," he said calmly, "you lose her."

The words carried enough weight to still the clearing again. Kael turned his head slightly, his gaze shifting toward Cassian. "Explain," he said.

Cassian met his gaze. "She is not being taken," he said. "She is being completed." The meaning settled heavily.

Kael’s grip tightened on Ariana as he absorbed it. "Then stop it."

"You don’t stop it," Cassian replied.

"Then what?"

"You interrupt it."

Kyrindor’s presence sharpened at once. "That will destabilize the domain."

"It already is," Cassian said.

Mira’s voice cut in again, controlled but tight. "And what happens to her if you interrupt it?"

Cassian didn’t answer immediately, and the silence stretched long enough to make the meaning clear on its own. Kael’s expression hardened as he held his gaze. "Say it," he said.

Cassian met his eyes without looking away. "She may not come back the same."

The clearing went still. Ariana’s fingers tightened weakly against Kael again, her grip uneven as her body trembled. Then her head tilted back sharply as the mark flared once more.

The darkness surged again, pulling inward so violently that the ground beneath her cracked deeper instead of splitting outward. The pressure in the clearing spiked again, sharper than before.

"She’s locking in faster," Mira said.

Cassian stepped forward again. This time, Kael didn’t stop him.

"What do you need?" Kael asked.

"Space," Cassian answered.

Mira shook her head immediately. "No," she said, her voice firm as she stepped forward. Kyrindor didn’t agree with her, but he didn’t stop it either, his presence tightening as if preparing for the consequences.

Kael made the decision anyway. He adjusted his hold on Ariana just enough to keep her steady without letting her slip. "You have one chance," he said.

Cassian gave a single nod, then moved.

He stepped toward Ariana with steady control, and the moment he entered her space, the air reacted again. The pull between her and Vaelor tightened sharply, responding to him in a way it hadn’t responded to anyone else.

Vaelor’s voice came again, quieter now. "You interfere where you were not meant to."

Cassian didn’t stop. "And you repeat what should have ended," he replied.

The words hit harder than the force around them. Ariana’s body jerked again, her arm lifting higher this time, not reaching but responding to something beyond her. The darkness along her skin flared as the pressure built to its peak.

Cassian reached out, his movement steady and controlled as his hand closed the distance between them. Just before his fingers touched hers, the darkness surged again, stronger than before, the pressure snapping tight as if something was resisting the contact.
