The first dragon moved before anyone said a word.

Its wings cut sharply through the air as it broke formation and turned toward the horizon. A second followed, then a third, until the entire pattern above the mountain shifted at once. What had been slow and steady moments ago tightened into something alert and focused.

Ariana felt it immediately.

The pressure in the air had changed. It was no longer distant or faint. It had sharpened, like something unseen had stepped closer without making a sound.

Whatever had been moving beyond the mountains was no longer far away.

It was here.

Kael stepped forward slightly, his eyes narrowing as he tracked the sky. "Yeah... that’s definitely not normal."

Ariana didn’t answer right away.

Her attention stayed fixed on the clouds as shapes began to form within them, clearer now than before. The closer they came, the more defined they became, and the heavier the air felt around her.

"They’re already here," she said quietly.

Behind them, the Dragon King’s voice carried across the stone. "They did not wait."

That much was obvious.

Ariana drew in a slow breath, steadying herself.

Her body still carried the weight of the earlier battle. Every movement reminded her how much power she had used, how close she had come to collapsing. But beneath the fatigue, something steadier remained.

Her power hadn’t disappeared.

It had settled.

Quieter now. Controlled. Waiting.

Kael glanced at her briefly. "You good?"

"I’ll manage."

"That’s not what I asked."

Ariana gave him a quick look. "I’m not collapsing this time."

Kael studied her for a second, then gave a small nod. "Good enough."

Above them, the dragons adjusted again.

They spread wider across the sky, no longer circling lazily but repositioning with clear intent. They weren’t preparing to attack. They were watching, tracking, ready.

So was Ariana.

The shapes in the clouds broke through fully now.

There wasn’t just one group. There were several.

They moved differently from each other. Some cut through the air with sharp speed, direct and precise. Others descended slowly, almost drifting, as if the wind itself carried them.

But all of them carried presence.

Ariana narrowed her eyes slightly. "That’s not just one bloodline."

Kael’s expression hardened. "No. It’s not."

The first group descended quickly and landed across the cliffs with controlled precision.

Their cloaks snapped lightly in the wind as they stepped forward. There was no hesitation in their movements, no wasted motion.

Pale skin. Sharp features. Eyes that held a faint glow even in daylight.

Vampires. Cassian stepped forward.

Ariana’s gaze locked onto him immediately. "You just left."

"I did," Cassian replied calmly.

Kael crossed his arms. "Then why are you back already?"

Cassian didn’t react to the tone. His expression remained composed, but his voice lowered slightly.

"Because the situation changed before I reached the outer range. Messages were already spreading. By the time I turned back, others were already approaching."

Ariana frowned slightly. "So you came back because..."

"Because you are no longer something that can be observed from a distance," Cassian finished.

That answer settled heavily between them.

Before Ariana could respond, another presence landed on the opposite side of the cliff.

There was something different about her.

The woman smiled faintly. "Correct."

Ariana looked between them, her expression tightening slightly. "So this is happening now."

"The world has begun to move," the Dragon King said.

More figures followed.

They didn’t arrive the same way. Some appeared suddenly, as if stepping through space itself. Others drifted down from the clouds, their movements controlled and deliberate.

Different energies spread across the mountain, each one distinct and unmistakable. They didn’t clash or surge forward. They settled into place, quiet but present, pressing into the air with controlled intent. Every group stood where they landed, their attention fixed, their focus sharp.

None of them attacked. They simply watched, measuring, waiting for something that hadn’t happened yet. Ariana felt it clearly now, the weight of their attention settling over her. This wasn’t a fight. It was a judgment.

"This is a test," she said.

Cassian glanced at her and nodded once. "Yes."

The witch stepped forward, her gaze steady and unyielding.

"The council has not reached a single decision."

Kael’s eyes narrowed. "About what?"

The woman didn’t look at him.

"About her."

Silence settled across the cliff.

Even the dragons above had gone still again, their massive forms suspended in the air as if they, too, were waiting.

Ariana felt every gaze on her now.

"The Fifth Blood," the witch continued.

"The Sovereign," Cassian added.

Ariana let out a slow breath.

Then she stepped forward.

"I’m right here."

The air shifted instantly.

The golden power inside her responded, rising steadily instead of exploding outward like before. It didn’t feel unstable this time. It didn’t feel like something she had to fight to control.

It felt aligned. Stronger.

The wind moved differently around her, drawn inward before pushing outward again. It wasn’t violent, but it was unmistakable.

The world was reacting to her. Kael noticed.

He didn’t speak, but his stance shifted slightly, ready without stepping in.

Above them, the dragons lowered in the air, their attention narrowing. Some adjusted their wings, reacting to the change in pressure.

They felt it too.

The witch studied Ariana more closely now.

Her expression had changed.

"Good," she said.

Ariana didn’t move.

For a moment, no one spoke. Then the witch took another step forward.

"If you stand as the Sovereign," she said, "then you will be judged as one."

Kael shifted slightly. "She doesn’t answer to you."

The witch’s gaze flicked toward him briefly, sharp and unimpressed, before returning to Ariana.

"That is not your decision."

Ariana lifted her hand slightly, stopping Kael before he moved further.

"It’s fine."

He didn’t like it. But he stayed.

Ariana looked back at the witch, her voice calm but firm. "Then say what you want clearly."

The woman didn’t hesitate.

"Show us."

The words were simple.

But the pressure behind them wasn’t.

The air tightened. The wind slowed. Even the dragons above went completely still, as if the entire mountain was holding its breath.

Ariana felt it all at once. The expectation pressed in from every direction, heavy and unrelenting, layered with judgment that hadn’t yet been spoken but was already there. She exhaled slowly, steadying herself, and lifted her chin. "Alright." The golden energy inside her answered immediately, rising without resistance, without chaos, settling into something controlled and certain.

It spread outward, quiet but undeniable, shifting the air, the wind, the space around her. Nothing broke. Nothing shattered. But everything changed. The ground held. The sky stayed still. And yet every presence on that mountain felt it. This time, she didn’t hesitate.
