Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers

"Yes," Wren Wynter answered without hesitation.

Kaden Xavier changed the subject, his tone softening. "Come back to the old family home for dinner. Grandma wants to see you."

Wren didn’t say anything. She just turned her head and continued to gaze out the window.

The car eventually stopped in front of the old Xavier family home.

They walked inside, one after the other.

Butler Chandler came to greet them, his face wreathed in smiles. "Young Master, Young Madam, you’ve returned! The Old Madam has been talking about you nonstop."

Old Madam Xavier was sitting on the rosewood sofa in the living room, wearing her reading glasses and reading a newspaper.

Hearing the commotion, she looked up. Seeing Wren, her face immediately broke into a benevolent smile. "Wren, you’re here! Come over, let Grandma get a good look at you."

Wren walked over and sat down beside Old Madam Xavier. "Grandma."

Old Madam Xavier took Wren’s hand, carefully studying her face. "You’ve gotten thinner. Have you not been eating well? You have to take care of yourself, no matter how busy you are with work."

"I’m fine, Grandma," Wren said softly.

"How could you be fine?" Old Madam Xavier said, her heart aching. "I didn’t want to meddle in your and your husband’s business, but seeing you like this, how can I rest easy? Even if you’re divorced, I still hope you’ll take good care of yourself."

Wren lowered her head, saying nothing.

Old Madam Xavier patted her hand. "Alright, let’s not talk about that. I had the kitchen make your favorite dishes: sweet-and-sour pork ribs, steamed sea bass, and your favorite lotus root soup. You must eat a lot today."

"Thank you, Grandma." Wren’s eyes started to well up.

In the Xavier family, Grandma was the only one who remembered what she liked and disliked to eat.

During dinner, Old Madam Xavier kept putting food on Wren’s plate and asking about her work at the hospital. The atmosphere was uncharacteristically harmonious.

Kaden sat opposite her, eating quietly. His gaze would occasionally drift to Wren, his expression complex.

"Wren, Kaden told me all about what happened at View Gardens." Old Madam Xavier held Wren’s hand. "Kaden also specifically brought Butler Chandler back. He said Butler Chandler has looked after you since you were a child, and that you’d feel more settled with him around."

Wren was silent.

’She really hadn’t expected Kaden to do all this.’

"Thank you... Kaden Xavier."

Wren looked up at Kaden, who had been silent all this time.

"No need to thank me. We’re husband and wife."

Kaden’s tone was calm, but the words themselves... were anything but.

Wren was momentarily at a loss for words.

Kaden was waiting in the living room when Wren came downstairs.

He was dressed in a dark gray suit with a matching tie, looking composed and capable.

"Breakfast is ready." Kaden stood up. "I’ll drive you when you’re done."

Wren nodded and ate her breakfast in silence, but when she spoke, it was to refuse him.

"That’s not necessary. I can go by myself."

"If we don’t want Grandma to worry, we have to commit to the act."

But before she could open her mouth, Kaden made the decision for her. "It’s settled."

After breakfast, Kaden drove Wren to the hospital.

Today was the day she had to make good on her bet with Julian Hawthorne.

The surgery was scheduled for nine in the morning, so she arrived at the operating room early to prepare.

Ho-ran Park and Shaun Quinn were already waiting in the operating room.

Seeing Wren, Ho-ran Park greeted her with a smile. "All set?"

"All set." Wren nodded, then looked toward Shaun Quinn. "Shaun, Ho-ran, I’ll have to trouble you both today."

Ho-ran Park chuckled, and Shaun Quinn gave Wren a nod.

At 8:30, the patient was wheeled into the operating room.

Wren stood at the operating table, took a deep breath, and pulled on her gloves.

The surgery began.

Kaden got out of the car, planning to use the restroom.

He didn’t expect to run into Mason Shaw just as he got out.

"Mr. Xavier, Dr. Wynter has a very important surgery today. Would you like to come and watch?"

Mason Shaw seemed a little surprised to see Kaden, but after a brief greeting, he cut straight to the chase, inviting him to watch Wren’s surgery.

"The hospital director arranged for all our neurosurgeons to observe the procedure for training purposes. It’s a rare opportunity."

Kaden said, "I’m not a doctor. I wouldn’t understand any of it."

"Mr. Xavier, have you ever seen Dr. Wynter operate?" Mason Shaw asked. "Aren’t you curious to see what your wife is like when she’s working?"

Those words struck a chord with Kaden.

’He really hadn’t. It was hard for him to picture her standing at an operating table, scalpel in hand.’

"Alright."

The observation room was full of doctors, all staring intently at the large screen.

On the screen, a tense surgery was in progress.

Kaden saw Wren.

She was completely absorbed in the operation, exuding an aura of confidence and power. She was like a different person from the woman he knew.

This was a side of Wren he had never seen before—utterly different from her usual self.

"Impressive, isn’t she?" Mason Shaw said calmly beside him. "Dr. Wynter is the most talented doctor I’ve ever seen. This procedure is extremely difficult—it was rejected by three hospitals. But in her hands, it seems almost effortless. And judging by the current progress, the surgery is going to be a success."

Kaden said nothing, his eyes fixed on the image of Wren on the screen.

Mason Shaw continued, "Dr. Wynter isn’t just beautiful—her skills are superb, and she has a wonderful personality. To be honest, I was captivated by her charm the moment I first met her. But I suppose that’s only to be expected. Wouldn’t you agree?"

Kaden’s brow furrowed.

’Is he trying to provoke me?’

He understood the implication of Mason Shaw’s words, but he didn’t take the bait.

After six hours, the surgery finally concluded.

When Wren announced that the surgery was a success, the observation room erupted into thunderous applause.

Kaden saw Wren take off her mask, revealing a tired but relieved smile on her face.

He suddenly remembered Mason Shaw’s words.

’Being captivated by her charm is only to be expected.’

’Yeah... a Wren like this... who wouldn’t be captivated?’

Kaden was silent for a moment, then turned and left the observation room.

His retreating figure looked somewhat discomposed.

After walking out of the hospital, Kaden got into his car but didn’t leave immediately.

He lit a cigarette, his mind consumed by the image of Wren in the operating room.

His phone rang. It was Seraphina Sutton.

Kaden glanced at the screen and immediately rejected the call.

But Seraphina was relentless, calling over and over again.

Annoyed, Kaden finally answered the phone. "What do you want?"

"Kaden, I want to see you," Seraphina said, her voice thick with tears. "There’s something I need to tell you."

"I’m busy." Thinking of the recent mess surrounding his divorce from Wren, Kaden said coldly, "Whatever it is, just say it over the phone."

"I..."

"If that’s all, I’m hanging up."

Without giving Seraphina another chance to speak, Kaden hung up.

Seraphina listened to the dial tone, her fingers digging into her phone.

She immediately dialed another number, calling Nathaniel Quinn.

The call connected after two rings.

"Seraphina, what’s wrong?" Nathaniel Quinn’s devil-may-care voice drifted from the phone.
