Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers

Roused by the commotion, the housekeeper came down from her room in the attic. Staring at a Kaden Xavier who was completely different from his usual self, she was stunned. She asked tentatively, "Mr. Xavier, do you need any help?"

Kaden sat up straight and turned to the housekeeper. His voice was laced with exhaustion as he said, "Make some hangover drink."

"Alright. Though it probably won’t be as good as when your wife makes it."

She’d never seen anyone put as much heart into making a hangover drink as Wren Wynter did. It was just a shame Mr. Xavier didn’t know how to cherish what he had.

At her words, Kaden’s lips thinned. He waved a hand dismissively. "Forget it. Go get some rest."

"Very well." The housekeeper pulled her robe tighter and started up the stairs. Her steps faltered. She looked back at Kaden Xavier on the sofa and sighed. "Sir, why don’t you try to win your wife back? All women need to be wooed. Say a few nice things, give her some gifts she likes... I’m sure she’ll forgive you."

Of all the wealthy wives she had met, Wren Wynter was the most good-natured and least pretentious.

Kaden’s eyes narrowed, but he remained silent. Suddenly, he grabbed the car keys from the table and headed for the door.

He didn’t know what had come over him. He only knew that, right now, he desperately wanted to see Wren Wynter—even if it was just to hear her voice.

Even now, he was convinced that Wren Wynter, who had loved him so dearly, would never be able to go through with the divorce. She had told him when they married that she would never leave him.

By the time he arrived, Wren Wynter was already asleep. But Kaden Xavier wasn’t one to give up until he got his way.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!

Wren Wynter, who had only just managed to fall asleep, was jolted awake by the insistent knocking. Annoyed, she got out of bed and rushed downstairs to open the door. She froze when she saw Kaden Xavier. "What are you doing here?"

The strong reek of alcohol from Kaden Xavier hit her, and she frowned. "You’ve been drinking."

"Wren, I want some of your hangover drink."

Without another word, Kaden Xavier tried to force his way inside, but Wren Wynter quickly stopped him. "Go drink it at home! I’m not making it for you again."

He was so disdainful before, and now he wants some? In his dreams!

"Wren, let’s not get divorced, okay?" Kaden Xavier pulled Wren Wynter into a hug, his tall frame slumping against her. She nearly buckled under his weight.

Wren Wynter glanced outside the villa, intending to have the driver take him back. But when she looked, the driver was nowhere in sight.

Left with no other choice, Wren Wynter had to help Kaden Xavier into the villa and dump him onto the sofa.

Honestly! He’s a menace even when he’s drunk, always insisting on making things difficult for her!

Wren Wynter turned to go back to her room, but a powerful force yanked her back by the wrist. A large hand cupped the back of her head, and a searing kiss was pressed against her lips.

Wren Wynter shoved Kaden Xavier away in disgust and slapped him across the face. "Kaden Xavier, we’re about to be divorced! If you’re going to be a pervert, go do it somewhere else!"

With that, she grabbed a tissue and wiped her mouth as if she’d been touched by something filthy.

She had a fixation on that sort of cleanliness; she would never let him kiss her with a mouth that had kissed someone else.

The slap left Kaden Xavier stunned for a long moment, and it sobered him up considerably.

"You hit me?"

"Who gave you the right to kiss me? You had it coming! Now that you’re sober, get out!" Without giving him another chance to speak, Wren Wynter hurried upstairs.

She had rubbed her lips raw.

A moment later, Kaden Xavier fell straight back onto the sofa. He was a lightweight and rarely drank.

The next morning, Kaden Xavier woke up on the sofa. In truth, it was the cold that had woken him. He looked around at the familiar surroundings, completely baffled. His face was still stinging.

How did he get here?

"Awake?" Wren Wynter emerged from her room, already dressed with her makeup done. "Since you’re awake, you can leave. I’m not running a shelter for perverts. Don’t come here again the next time you’re drunk."

"We’re still married, you know! Is this any way to treat your drunken husband?"

Kaden Xavier touched his aching cheek. Fortunately, it wasn’t swollen; otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to show his face today.

"You could have gone to Seraphina Sutton. I’m sure she would have been delighted to take care of you."

Not sparing Kaden Xavier so much as a glance, Wren Wynter grabbed her handbag and walked out.

"Wait!"

Wren Wynter ignored him and quickened her pace toward the door. When he saw she had no intention of stopping, he rushed forward to block her way.

"Kaden Xavier, what the hell do you want?" A trace of impatience crossed Wren’s features.

Kaden Xavier’s heart sank. He pointed at Wren’s clothes and asked coldly, "You’re going to work dressed like that?"

Wren glanced down at her own outfit: a black velvet, hip-hugging skirt that left her long, fair legs exposed, paired with a white, deep V-neck blouse.

While the outfit itself was a bit revealing, she was wearing a light trench coat over it.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with it.

"Is there a problem?"

In Kaden Xavier’s memory, Wren Wynter had always dressed modestly. Forget hip-hugging skirts; she rarely even wore skirts of any kind.

The thought of other men feasting their eyes on such a captivating, alluring Wren left a bitter taste in his mouth. He felt a surge of jealousy that was driving him mad!

"Change it!" Kaden Xavier commanded, his tone leaving no room for debate.

"None of your business! Why don’t you worry about yourself?"

He’s insane, Wren thought. Ever since she’d learned Kaden Xavier liked the gentle, graceful type, she had dressed entirely to match his preferences. From now on, she was going to be herself.

But before she could walk out of the villa, Kaden Xavier hoisted her over his shoulder and strode purposefully back toward the room.

"Kaden Xavier, are you nuts?!" Wren yelled. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Kaden Xavier paid her no mind. He set Wren down on the bed and pointed to the closet. "Go change. Otherwise, you won’t be leaving here today."

With that, he ambled out of the room.

Wren was furious. She snatched a pillow from the bed and hurled it in the direction of the door. "Kaden Xavier, if you’re sick in the head, go get it treated!"

She was finally seeing it clearly. Kaden Xavier was dead set on making her life miserable.

Seeing she was about to be late, Wren took a deep breath, swallowed her anger, and walked to the closet. She picked out a reasonably conservative outfit and changed into it.

Seeing this, Kaden Xavier nodded in satisfaction, the crease between his brows smoothing out. He reached for Wren’s hand, but she deftly avoided his touch.

He wasn’t angry, though. "Let’s go," he said.
